Skyrim has one thing going for it over the Witcher 2, the huge open world to explore. That's a pretty major thing. However in absolutely every other department, story, graphics, combat etc, the Witcher 2 is a much better game. Depends what you fancy.

It's your opinion of course, but honestly I found combat in TW2 to be just as lame as Skyrims.

The Witcher 2 was a letdown. My main problem was how cinematic heavy the game was. I read somewhere that the game had over 2 and a half hours of cutscenes. That's just too much. Do people really want to spend so much time watching boring cutscenes rather than actually play the game?GiantAssPanda

Yeah, but that's most likely for all possible choices & consequences, isn't it? The average playthrough should have somewhat lower number.

I also wish TW2s world was a bit bigger. It's fine for the way it is but I would just love more of that tasty world to get into. Hopefully TW3 will improve on it.

Thing is Skyrim has a huge world that's full of nothing. It's so dull and lifeless outside of cities and towns. TW2s smaller towns are crammed with people and things happening. It's far more believable

How's the combat in TW2 ? is it the same as in the first game ? Haven't got to play TW2 yet, i'm not sure my laptop can handle it. I played the first one and I really didn't like the combat, and the game's interface was terrible too. Loved the setting and story tho.

Cool opinion and all, but I've put way more hours in Skyrim so it wins for me.

Although I'd go with the "both games are great in their own way" stand myself.

Witcher 2 is basically an improvement in all areas over the first game.

The combat is more akin to something that'd spawn if Batman: AC and Demon Souls hooked up.

Combat is completely different for TW2. I like it though. It's a left click for fast attack, right click for heavy attack with E as your block kind of combat, if you know what I mean

Sounds better than in the first game. I guess I should give it a try - hopefully my laptop can run it. I play Shogun 2 on it with medium settings at 720p so it should be ok I guess. I don't really care about playing with the best graphics, even if i have to play with low settings i'm fine with it as long as the FPS don't constantly drop.

If you can really play Shogun 2 at those settings then you should be able to run TW2 also. Shogun 2 is a very demanding game

Witcher 2 is a more narrative driven experience.

Skyrim is more about having and adventure in the world.

[QUOTE="millerlight89"]I think Skyrim mops th floor with The Witcher 2. The Witcher 2 wasn't bad, but it was a massive letdown. princeofshapeir

-Crappy combat

-Bland storyline

-Shallow quests, lack of impact on the world

-Meh vanilla graphics

-Repetitive dungeons

idungeddit

You mean Skyrim, from those points?

They're like two way different games. I like the Witcher 2 for its combat gameplay and engaging narrative. I like Skyrim for its sandbox gameplay and its interesting lore.

The prologue of Witcher 2 has been more satisfying than Skyrim as a whole, i'd have to say.

The combat is actually good, and the graphics are great, as is the art style.

Really? I beat Dark Souls last week and it urinates and deficates all over both "RPG's" you mentioned.

I beat that last week. Solid game, quite addictive, but I don't see how you could say that it was clearly better than The Witcher 2.

The only things Dark Souls did extremely well were the combat, level design and atmosphere, and those were nothing we hadn't seen before. At least The Witcher 2 attempted to push the boundaries of what RPG storytelling can do, and I personally think it succeeded.

I dunno, I'd say, if anything, Dark Souls pushed the boundaries of storytelling in RPGs. RPGs go hand in hand with laborious exposition, and the Witcher 2 just made it more tolerable than previous games. Dark Souls is kinda like Half-Life or Shadow of the Colossus, where everything is understated, and only appreciated through moment-to-moment interactions with the game universe.

With TW2, I was thinking more of the way your decisions shaped the story in the game - I can't think of too many RPGs that had choices of that scope, changing entire story sequences, locations, boss fights, protagonist motivations, etc etc. Perhaps 'storytelling' was the wrong word.

But yes, I was probably underrating Dark Souls quite a bit there. Possibly because I'm still disappointed with how empty and unfilfilling the finale felt.
