GOTY is now between Skyrim and Arkham City

all of the major games this year have been released, and out of all of them two stand head above the rest. here's why:

Gears of War 3 - won't win because GeoW 1 already awarded GOTY in 2006

Dark Souls - say what you will, but i consider this a sequel to Demon's Souls.

Uncharted 3 - Uncharted 2 was a superior game with a higher score; it makes no sense to give UC3 GOTY

Portal 2 - though the game is excellent, i don't see it winning on gamespot just because it wasn't nearly as good as Portal 1 and the co-op felt tacked-on; it wasn't nearly as big of a splash as the first game

The Witcher 2 - Skyrim has this game knocked down as RPG of the year

AC Revelations - 8.0'd and a simple retread of the AC series. great game, but it's not GOTY material

Battlefield 3/Modern Warfare 3 - i doubt any of the shooters will be serious contenders. their collective hype and rabid fanbases have made their games a shell of what was promised

Skyward Sword - lol

Skyrim and Arkham City are just the two games this year that stand head and shoulders above the rest. they've swept the gaming world by storm with massive hype and enormous critical and commercial success. with both games averaging a 96 on metacritic, i think we have a very close competition ahead of us

Uncharted 3, LBP2, Portal 2, Witcher 2.

These have much of a chance as Skyrim and AC.

I'm going with the upset and will say that L.A. Noire is going to take it. It's the only high-caliber game this year for consoles that isn't a sequel and does things most games can't dare to try.

I'm not getting your logic TC. You say Dark Souls wont win because you think it's a sequel, but you say Skyrim and Batman will win, which are both sequels.

Yes I know that Arkham City has a better chance at GOTY than Uncharted 3 but that doesn't mean Uncharted 3 has no chance.

Also Skyrim is an amazing game but it should not get a free pass, the game is riddled with bugs and glitches galore across all platforms.

Uncharted 2 went on to have over 200 GOTY awards and 150 Industry Awards.....but just not in Gamespot.

Instead a 9.0 game like Demon Soul got it.

Uncharted 3 improves on everything UC2 did. It has brought the graphical fidelity on consoles to new grounds and has Cinematic action and intereactive blending of cutscene and dynamic gameplay that is still unmatched today with the absolute best animations on consoles.

For that alone, should be granted GOTY immortality.

No f****** exceptions.

Not only that but Skyrim is infested with many bugs and glitches across all platforms, even as far as making it unplayable in some instances.

Dark Souls, Uncharted 3, and Arkham City are most likey to get GOTY. Gears of War 1 already won GOTY and the hype and talk of Gears 3 died down so fast, Uncharted 2 was robbed of it so Uncharted 3 might have a good shot, Demon Souls already got GOTY so I don't see Dark Souls getting it. It's going to be between Arkham City and Uncharted 3.

Kevin V is going to be pushing hard for Dark Souls I think.

Nothing wrong with that, but if you read several of his recent tweets it is clear he considers it his personal GotY.

Indeed, also Dark Souls scored more than Demons Souls and Uncharted 3 less, making it even more probable that Dark Souls will be GOTY

Demons Souls did not win it over UC2 by chance, it was a far bigger, more core, varied, rewarding, fun and complex game

like Dark Souls is, comparing to U3 and AC

Skyrim was the only one to stand a chance, that is, until i actually played it, could be one of the most dissapointing games for me, after FF13, Zelda TP and WKC
