Squirrel, how is Dark Souls rubbish but Demons Souls awesome. Dark Souls was better than Demons Souls in most aspects, at least you could die in Dark Souls. And there is so much more enemy variety.
dual-wielding weapons and spells, dragon shouts, finishing moves, improved enemy A.I., responsive combat, and decapitations are nothing new, i agree
princeofshapeir
Dual Wielding Weapons, I dont know, a preview I read said it was absolutely pointless. Dual wielding spells is one of the most insanely idiotic concepts I have ever heard. Finishing moves will get old fast and ultimately just end up becoming more annoying than fun, the enemy AI is still terrible and the combat looks as unresponsive as ever.
Dragon Shouts are awesome though. Pretty much one of the few things I dont hate about Skyrim so far.
it will be between Skyward Sword and Skyword Sword.Skyward Sword wll make Skyrim,Batman,Uncharted 3 and Dark Souls look like Atari games.
SKYWARD SWORD. The dang thing is selling a 6 year old system and it isn't even out yet.
Heirren
I dont know, we will have to wait and see.
But it is safe to say Skyward Sword looks extremely promising and did a complete U-turn from its awful introduction. That game got nothing but hate when it was announced, now there is a massive ammount of hype for it.
My most hyped up game this year and second most hyped up game overall. With Guild Wars 2 being my most hyped.
Skyrim is not out yet, skyward sword is not out yet, Batman AC is fine, gears of war 3 is very likely to get GOTY... not skyrim...
ahem you can just replace Uncharted 3 with Dark Souls thank you :) or even better, replace skyrim with it. :)1. Skyrim
2. Arkham City
3. Uncharted 3

Hating GeOW is your right and opinion to think it's bad. That doesn't mean everyone else thinks so. Since the game has pretty much a 90 rated game by most gaming sites says something. It MUST be included in GOTY consideration since you're already including UC3, a game that isn't even out yet.[QUOTE="kingtito"]

fanboyism for what exactly? I hate Gears of War. Thinks its complete garbage with almost no redeeming qualities. Almost as bad as killzone. Infact, the only reason I consider it better than Killzone is because of Horde mode.

Uncharted provides a far more creative and thrilling game experience than Gears of War does. I played neither Gears 3 nor U3. I'm basing this off the previous games. I'm including Uncharted 3 yes largely because I rather include it than Gears of War. I don't think U3 has a chance of winning game of the year though. Skyward Sword has already got that down. You can't beat a 10 from Edge. Gears of War has a severely cliched story with some of the worst characters I ever played in a shooter. I mean, my god. I thought that psycho from Killzone 2 that wanted to kill evreything was annoying until I met Dom. Dom is perhaps the worst character ever created in a shooter. Every single time he talks my blood boils. He is unbearable. Gears of War has a story that starts off pretty interesting and then decays to utter **** to play out something like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DMgVVj45Rs
Its online is small and boring in comparison to many shooters out there even on consoles. Its beyond me why a 360 owner would play Gears online when Halo is so much better. Not to mention all the other bazillion shooters out there. Halo even has a better "horde" mode :D To someone like me, who has a gaming PC, why would I even touch Gears online when I can play games like TF2 which are countless times superior? For me Gears of War is just a waste of time to play for more than one playthough. To be honest though, I think the same of Uncharted. I don't care for U3's online. But I do have no doubt that its SP will be way better. Naughty Dog makes some seriously epic action single player campaigns.
Yet UC3 scored .5 lower than GeoW3 here on GS.. ignored.[QUOTE="UnrealLegend"]
It will come down to the perfect game known as Arkham City against the near-perfect game known as Portal 2.
Master_ShakeXXX
and also against the better-than-perfect game known as Dark Souls.
You mean the grossly overrated, irritating, grind fest, and unpolished Dark Souls? Yeah not even close.[QUOTE="argetlam00"]

yet it still has better character animations than skyrim ;)zelda shouldnt be in that list, its a last gen graphics game after all !
legol1
funny cause dark souls is still the highest rated and most well recieved thus far, no game is going to change that, let alone a casual-fest like skyrim

The lack of intelligence on these forums astounds me....
people calling unreleased games GOTY....
and others calling unreleased games CRAP
WOW! If only I hadnt traded in my crystal ball.
Not liking a game, doesnt make it crap. I don't particularly like GTA:IV, I find it boring and tedious.
I really hate Metal Gear Solid, its ridiculous, silly and absurd.... and they are 2 of the highest scoring games this gen....
so they certainly aren't "CRAP". Just not my cup of tea. WHy don't some of you grow up, and just enjoy your hobby and let others
enjoy theirs?
Insults aren't going to get you anywhere and they just put you on a lower level than the people judging unreleased games. Just saying. The lack of intelligence on these forums astounds me....

Dark Souls' loss is sealed by the fact that Demon's Souls got GOTY. Direct sequels to previous GOTY games do not win on GS. See, SMG2. It got a 10, and not GOTY.
Dark Souls and Gears 3 are still the only GOTY candidates

Dark Souls is a new game, it is not Demons Souls 2 of course, so nothing like SMG1 and SMG2 case

Well it more or less is.. They are exactly sequels, only reason why name is different so the dev could develope on both the 360 and ps3..

No, they are not sequels, they are different games and IPs
If it was a sequel, would be called Demons Souls 2 and not Dark souls, plus would be in Demons Souls universe and is not

That makes it a GOTY contender to me ;)
No other game pushed me past the point of purchase, but DS makes me need a new ps3 :P

It is not a sequel, it is another IP altogether, called Dark Souls, a totally different world and game
Demons Souls 2 would be a sequel and there is no such thing
It is like saying FF9 is FF7 sequel or Lost Odyssey is FF8 sequel, just because they share similarities in gameplay
I'm still voting for Portal 2.
A/C is not as good as Arkham Asylum, and I've yet to play Skyrim, or Zelda so I really can't comment on them, but as far as the rest of the games this year go Portal 2 is the best so far.
Well you can definitely scratch Skyrim off the list. After having watched the dreadful opening 20 miniutes, I would be surprised if it even managed to score a 8.5. Horrid voice acting, awkward animations, dated graphics, and odd bugs were already apparent in the first 10 ****ing minutes for crying out loud. Bethesda, you mofos are LAAAAAAZY!Master_ShakeXXXhey, glad you played it, what did you name your character? i was thinking of naming mine sparky mcfirefarts

Eh, no. These problems should be noted and the game marked down for them, just like with any other game. Just because it's Elder Scrolls doesn't mean it's exempt from criticism.

if the game is criticized at all for those two things, it won't change the review score. it's absurd to focus on these tiny details when you're given a massive game world brimming with content, a game that can fit dark souls in its pocket and have room to sparevoice acting and animations are entirely negligible in an elder scrolls game. that said, they're a step up from oblivion in every way. but i doubt when you're actually playing the game small little hiccups like these will detract from the experience in anyway. like i've said, RDR had a plethora of bugs and glitches at launch; npcs got replaced by animals, you could fall through the world or fly straight up, and the animations and controls still feel fairly clunky to a lot of people. didn't keep the game from being critically acclaimed and loved by everyone because the experience as a whole was fantastic. why can't we hold that same standard to skyrim?[QUOTE="princeofshapeir"][QUOTE="Master_ShakeXXX"] Everything I mentioned was audio/visual problems. Are the other games as big as the Elder Scrolls? The reason behind people not offing points for the Elder Scrolls is that its ambition, scope, and success (in their eyes) is more than enough to overlook the minor flaws. What about Dark Souls? There were minor problems within that game and Kevin still overlooked them and gave it a 9.5.
Just wait and see, we'll see if it IS the flop so many SW fans say it is. :|

Kevin didn't overlook them. He noted all the flaws AND marked them down as negatives. Who knows, maybe if it wasn't for the framerate dips he would have awarded the game a 10. It certainly wouldn't have been unreasonable of him as it really is a stellar game.
