Skyrim might have a chance but i doubt the gameplay is as tight as DS...

Gears 3 is way better than Dark Souls, though I am having a hard time stopping myself from playing DS. Gears was nearly perfect though.Badosh

If you like shooters, of course it is, for me that like RPGs though Gears would not even be in the same sentence as Dark Souls

1. It's much more than that. That's like calling Skyrim "a fantasy combat simulator."

2. What are you talking about? The game was delayed because of some publishing issues. It has nothing to do with the developer.

No there's no concrete release date yet, but that definitely doesn't mean the game was cancelled.

^ I said probably has been cancelled by now. No news, release date says Q4 2011 which we are basiclly in already, and just from the brief look I gave it, it looks like a open world space combat game. Its doesn't say anything about it being Adventure or RPG that would denote it being full of choices.

Have you ever played any games in the X series before?

Because I've played all of them, and I can most definitely tell you that the game is as much of an RPG as Skyrim is.

There's no nebulous statistics like +3 armor, but you most definitely build / trade / explore / forge your own destiny, just like you would in Skyrim.

^ never even heard of the X series, so i haven't ever played it. There's no news anywhere on it, so either both games (X: Tension and X:Rebirth) have never released, or they've never come to NA or they've released in the most tiny game stores. I've never ever seen it on store shelves TBH.

I would give it my Game of the Year mark. It's a fantastic game, very high quality. Best RPG I've played all year, even besting Witcher 2. This game just reminds me of Castlevania (SotN) so much, I can't help but love every bit of it (even getting killed repeatedly)!

It's a niche game from a small development team in Germany...it's understandable that you wouldn't have heard of it.

They have indeed released in America...you can buy copies online and I've seen a copy at Gamestop before.

But it has an extremely dedicated and devoted fanbase. Check it out sometime.

Red Dead Redemption before that won GOTY and Demon Souls won GOTY. Commercial shooters won't win overall GOTY. There'll be hot competition in the First Person Shooter category, be sure about that, but overall GOTY? No.

Haven't played DS. The only best games from this year I've played are Dead Space 2 and Deus Ex.

I think so. But I'll have to play Skyward Sword and Super Mario 3d land first.

People are seriously underestimating Arkham City.

I think that game is way bigger competition for Dark Souls than Skyrim.

Besthesda makes crap games but then again people play garbage like Farmville, so I'm not surprised that a lot of people liked a unmodded Oblivion.

My personal GotY is inFamous 2 right now, but it will probably be Uncharted 3. Right now I can see Dark Souls getting GotY here though, and for good reason since it is so damn fun and rewarding. Its got some issues (mainly framerate and directions to the objective), but its otherwise amazing.
