Yeah, yeah....I know. G-phoria is just a ridiculous G4TV show. However, there is a serious lack of gaming shows on TV in general. And G-phoria (if I'm correct on this) is only once a year. So, they blatently put TLoZ:TP into the RPG category and gave it the "best RPG game".

Yeah, I know...G4 is a sorry excuse for gaming TV. But is SpikeTV and Gamehead any better? Seriously, there is a lack of qualityinrelation to gaming on TV. There is not awhole lot to choose from...

Ok, so going by that, is G4TV ridiculous for calling TLoZ:TP an RPG?Personally, I think TLoZ:TP is NOT an RPG. It is an action/adventure title and in no way an RPG.Here's why TLoZ:TP should not ever beconsidered an RPG.

1. Thereare no experience points or levels gained from fighting the same enemies over and over. Oblivion was looked at as BARELY an RPG by a lot of people. But at least levels were gained through combat. Not so with TLoZ:TP.

2. Increase in health is optional. In most RPGs, you gain HP points through repeated combat. Not so with TP.

3. Only 3 swords...ALL of which are required. Wooden, Ordon, Master. RPGs let you choose your own swords, and usually there is a hell of a lot more to choose from than 3. Also, in TP, you just get the swords. In RPGs, you have to buy swords or weapons in most cases.

4. Enemies never increase in difficulty.

I know that most of my posts are hated. I realize that. But can you really disagree with me on this one? Is TP an RPG? No, it isn't. Now, tell me why I'm wrong and flame me as usual...

I don't care who considers TP of the"X" genre, I loved it regardless of its supposed genre.

That's the bottom line, it was a superb game.

RPG... Action Adventure... WHO CARES?!?!?!

Same goes for Prime. Honestly, is there a more worthless debate as to whether it's an FPS or a FPA? I mean, honestly... how does its "classification" affect ANYTHING when you're playing the game?

Don't worry about it man, it's not worth worrying about.

It's an absolutely worthless thing to debate.

I haven't played a Zelda title since Majora's, I don't own a GameCube or Wii but I did play Ocarina of Time and from what i have read they are very similar, if so then your right Twilight Princess is not a RPG, at all.

Name your character, level up your health gauge (hearts), buy items, sell items, learn new moves, do quests, do side quests, sounds rpg'ish to me. Not a strict rpg but an adventure rpg nonetheless.

If zelda is not an rpg then neither is fable.

LOL! Every Zelda fanboy on this forum has said repeatly time and time again that NO ZELDA game is an RPG. Then AvidGamer makes a post. Well, SOMEONE has to disagree with Avid, because he is always wrong! Then I decide to make a post that has great logic to it. But I still get disagreed with. And I thought most people thought Fable was an Action/Adventure hybrid with "very light" RPG elements to it?

I can increase my health bar, sell and buy items in RE4, so does that make it an RPG? Zelda isn't an RPG folks, not that it really matters.

Oh and Metriod is an FPS not a FPA :P

Can you rename leon? ROLE PLAYING GAME.

Zelda is a light an action/puzzle/adventure game with light rpg elements. It is a fusion of many genres, but the rpg element is in there, and it's quite visible, from the moment you start a new game and name your character and even your horse.

I don't consider Zelda to be a true RPG, but whatever... if others want to consider it one, then that's their choice..... it's not like I really care. Games these days are blurring the lines between genres anyway. Take a look at Bioshock, Oblivion, Metroid Prime, Mass Effect, and even Kingdom Hearts. They could all be considered to belong to a hybrid game genre. So... really, who cares what a game is classified as....

Role-Playing is as far as I know a game where you play a role where you can get people to love or hate you. So I don't see Zelda as an RPG seeing how there's no real choises, you can only complete it one way. And I see Oblivion as the nearest you get to an RPG, but it's not really achievable until the AI can say their own non-scriptet things to the also non-scriptet things you say.

What about the other items you acquire? I'm pretty sure they count as weapons. I do agree thoughon the lack of ability to buy weapons because that would mess up the Zelda formula.

4. Enemies never increase in difficulty.

What do you mean by never increase in difficulty? If you mean that the same enemy doesn't grow and become stronger as you progress then what about FF7? The enemies didn't level up with you. If you mean that even later enemies only do small damage comparable to early enemies, then you've got a point.

I know that most of my posts are hated. I realize that. But can you really disagree with me on this one? Is TP an RPG? No, it isn't. Now, tell me why I'm wrong and flame me as usual...

AvIdGaMeR444

Though I disagree somewhat with a few of your points, I consider TP to not be an RPG because RPGs are combat-focused while Zelda games focus on exploration and puzzle-solving.

G4 has been a casual station ever since they started those stupid whip set, and fast lane shows...

they used to be hardcore back in the day when they had tommy tallrico and his sidekick guy on the review show

then they dropped all the real gamign shows in favor of beign a spike TV wannabe...

While you do take on the role of a character, Zelda is far from being a traditional roleplaying game, it is an action adventure game and nothing more. Most people who think RPG's think Final Fantasy and yes those are indeed role playing games, but in a sense isn't Zelda just with a different combat system and lots of free roaming?

Zelda is not an RPG and never has been. RPG's consist of gaining experience and leveling up, Zelda has none of these. It's a pure adventure game. It does not qualify for the RPG genre simply for having quests, tons of games would qualify if that were the case.

Zelda is not an RPG, case closed.

why not, ME and Bioshock are considered RPG even though they play like shooters.
