I played the demo of Gran Turismo 5 and I played GT5 Prologue but even though its a racing sim the cars arent realistic. They LOOK real but when you drive them you dont hear the engines sound, nor do you feel any sense of speed. In NFS:Shift you would feel like your going super fast when your going 130mph because that IS fast and it would feel fast in real-life. In the GT5 demo and prologue it felt like I was going very slowly, I would barely hear the engine and I would just see things passing by very slowly yet when I looked down I would see that im almost going 200mph (in prologue). Any idea if they are going to fix this? I would LOVE to get GT5 but honestly if this is how the game is gonna be then that love its ALL gone because it is just boring.

What view were you driving in, the sense of speed in Shift is unrealistic the game is on steroids. However i agree, the FFB and sense of speed could be improved especially when the 370z accelerates so fast.

yeah, i didnt play the demo and i dont think you should judge based on this demo (200 mb or so i think).

hopefully they do add in that feature where it feels like you are going fast , ex: maybe a little car shaking, idunno.

PSdual_wielder

i think he fully understand what those are, he just doesnt feel as if the gameplay of the car going super fast (around 150) is makign him feel as if hes going fast. Its just an opinion of his. I mean seriously, since it is a "racing sim" i think it shouldmean that you experience the car going fast.

idont really care, cant wait for this game.

I believe I have been a car so I know how it is being in a car. Only when I am in the car and im going 40mph I can see things passing by slowly like in GT5 and see the road moving like in GT5 but unlike me being in the car in real-life I am going near 200mph, it shouldn't be similar to 40mph.

The engine in a well made car shouldn't be blowing your ear drums out, the sound i think your used to hearing in real life is the loud muffles people put on. That are VERY irritating. But yes i hear what your saying and agree, join GTPforums.

exactly but it felt the same when really I am going almost 5 times as fast as normal. I should see the environment whip past me and feel a sense of speed as I move throughout the track. Instead I see myself going veeeerrrryyy sllooowwwlllyyy and the environment passing by very slowly.

It seems like Forza Motorsport 3 isnt really having this problem. I mean compare this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxKiMs0vd6Ywhich is the GT5 gameplay to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxKiMs0vd6Ywhich is the Forza Motorsport3 gameplay. Forza has the perfect speed as you can see but GT5 feels VERY slow and both were taken directly from the FULL game even though the games werent done poduction in that time it wasn't a demo, much more than a demo.

Why would you compare a demo to the final game. Its not the finished version of the game. Thats like comparing a Lexus to Maybach. What sense does that make?

GT5 is one of the main reasons i own a PS3 but I agree with the thread starter. Every GT from 1 - prologue have a strange sense of speed, the ride feels like your floating along the tracks and not akin to real life at all, I cant see why GT 5 will differ from it's predecessors based on history, prologue and footage we have seen.

yup i came to the conclusion even tho shift is rather awesome that its arcade with some sim tweaks.

I been in a car doing 100mph ona motorway, it doesnt blur i have never been in a car any faster so i cant comment but the point is there actually isnt that much motion blur at higher speeds as one may think.

thats because motion blur only occurs in photo's and movies, it doesn't actually exist in real life, which makes GT5 more realistic it my book http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motion_blur

Quite honestly, based off this and what I can discern regarding your personal preferences, you're more into arcade racers not racing sims, WHICH IS NOT A BAD THING AT ALL. I think GT5, right down to the presentation, will be a bit more subdued, and won't provide that "heightened reality`` that you like. I honestly don't think a game like GT5 would be for you. NFS Shift is actually really well done and the presentation is top notch: it actually has the best cockpit view out of any racing game this gen. I would just stick to it.

GT games has always been "cold' when it comes to sensations, but that's ok since it's a sim. If you want that speed feeling go play Burnout.

I recently decided to just try out GT5P and I gotta admit that I was wrong, its because of the time trial. Since your racing alone it seems like your going slowly but when your competing against others in a race you do feel the speed. Also yes I do like sim games, its just that sometimes I like a little sprinkle of Arcadiness in them to spice it up. I cant wait for GT5 :). Plus did you guys see the new Night Time trailer? that was awesome if you didn't here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfyonN7WC4M my friend has a 360 and loves Forza, he said that Forza is awesome and has around 500 cars, when I told him that GT5 has almost 1000 cars his eyes almost fell out of his eye sockets :P.

Racing sims are always "boring". That's the genre, not the game. If you want high-speed high-octane insanity, play Burnout.

Thats the problem with early demos. They don't give you an accurate feel for the game. Hopefully all this will be improved by release.

Not quite. GT(or Forza)are a mix of arcade/sim gameplay. The only real simulator on the market is GTR-2.

even though i havent played the GT5 demo i would hafta agree with you on the fact that in my racers i like it packed with a sense of realism. i like to hear the roar of the cars engines wich i know some of them wont have given the engine and car because not all power cars roar (I.E. ferrari and lamorghini) but still a super fast sense of speed too if im going fast enough should be a given also

well of course they know how to drive without tearing their tires to a pile of rubber,on the other hand average guys that play the game over or understeer and over accelerate all the time through corners, so thats why their tires are crying

Actually, I think that is you. Gran Turismo isn't a sim, neither is Forza. If you want a "sim" you get GTR or iRacing. Gran Turismo is an arcade sim racer, designed to be accessible to the general public. Real sims are accessible, they are brutally punishing.

For the same reason why games like ArmA II are in a different sub-genre to games like Call of Duty and Halo. There is a difference between striving for a proper recreation of realism, and creative artistry on realism.

Shift's cockpit view is fantastic and gives and exelent adrenaline rush when driving. Yes its over exagurated, but it still pulls you in very well.

And you actualy feal like a pearson in the car in Shift, like when you crash your head will bob, the camera will adjust to turns and bumps and stuff. Overall its very immersive.

Not like saying that at all. GranTurismo markets itslef as being THE Driving Simulator. What I'm getting at regarding flipping cars is that GranTurismo does not have anything even approaching a physics engine. I would understand if it didn't do air resistance or how effective tyres are at displacing water on the track or even variable suspension. But to neglect something as basic as centre of gravity is simply pathetic. And I like that no one has ever called Halo or Modern Warfare combat simulators. But Whatever dude, I guess God of War is an authentic re-enactment of ancient Greec?

how does flipping a car make it a sim, thats like saying cod and halo aren't shooter's cus u cant put the bullets in the clip individually

Because simulators SIMULATE real life, and you can flip a car in REAL LIFE. ... Besides, Halo and Call of Duty aren't war-SIMS.

I would LOVE to get GT5 but honestly if this is how the game is gonna be then that love its ALL gone because it is just boring.

well you're not the first to complain about this, it's actually one of the most talked about thing from people who aren't used to playing GT games

and imo it's an accurate description, compare GT5p to rFactor in a formula 1 car being compared to real life:

GT5p vs. real life @ Sazuka

vs.

rFactor vs. real life @ Monza

having played both games - both with the same input (logitech wheel) i can safely say that rfactor is a lot more intense when you get up to top speed while it's very very easy to judge what's ahead in GT5p, i think the fact that GT series tends to have wind noise drone out engine noise doesn't help the sense of speed either

at least i noticed in the GT5 time trial demo, when you switch to cockpit view the camera moves around with the head of the driver rather than simply being a static flying camera like in GT5p, so that's an improvement
