it MIGHT sell 2 million copies, a big sales failure

GT5 will sell extremely well. It's going to be the only console game that offers NASCAR play. Having the US's #1 motorsport exclusively in your game is gold.I know a lot of people are saying this game will sell ATLEAST 5 million copies and could even rival Halo Reach.. While Gran Turismo 5 USE to be a big seller i just dont see this game having that many sales at all.. I just dont know what it is, but PS3 gamers just dont buy games.. Even Assasins Creed 2 which was marketed by sony as being a exclusive sold double the amount of copies on the 360.
It took a great critically acclaimed game like Infamous to sell just 1.2 million copies in 9 months.. Killzone 2 didnt even sell 500,000 units the month it came out, heck MGS4 did alright but it was like pulling teeth for that game to even sell. Also look at Forza 3, that game barely broke a million consoles. The fact remains is GT5 has been delayed way to much and there are just way to many other racing and driving games out now.
My prediction is GT5 will be a huge sales failure, i think it MIGHT sell 2 million copies worldwide when its all said done.. And as far as this game being a "system seller" i definatley dont see that happening, now a days sim racers arent system sellers..

GT Prologue sold 4.1 million copies. Four. Point. One. Million. Sold.
GT5 will obliterate sales-wise.
Even Assasins Creed 2 which was marketed by sony as being a exclusive sold double the amount of copies on the 360.

Gran turismo never really had any true compatition before hand did it. Now we have loads of racing games out and to the general mass public FORZA3 has got everything they want. To predict GT5 will be a sales bohemoth is a bit stupid. I think it will do well but I would not be supprised if it failed to live up to expectations of the game and its size of popularity as well.

Same could be said about Halo: Combat Evolved when it first came out. Weren't many console shooters to compete with, yet despite hardly adding anything new to the Halo franchise, and having many new console shooters currently out to compete with, the game STILL sells like hot-cakes in a fat camp. Sometimes, label is all you need for a game to sell well, despite how good the final product actually is.
Need an example? Look at Final Fantasy. Doesn't matter what it is, if it has the Final Fantasy title in it, it's gonna sell.
This is coming from a person who was a cow yesterday, then quit gaming then turned into a lem....

Correction: RAAAAAGE quit.
But yeah. GT will sell. Too many people still hold GT as the definitive sim racer for it to NOT sell well. Plus, the 360 is largely an American trend, a fact which Americans tend to forget. Sony and GT are HUGE brands in Europe. Hell, it'll probably sell well, even here in the NA. Forza's by no means a bad game, but it still lacks the brand recognition.
This thread is fail. GT5 is the crem da la crem of racing titles and I believe the at least 5 mil number is quite accurate. Look at the previous titles, they all dwarfed the 5 million sales mark.
Well if GT5:P already has 4 mil + sales under its belt i think that 10 million isnt all that unrealisitic. Atleast i think :D
Uhh, didn't GT5P sell like 3M? Yea...
nZiFFLe
Its suppossed to be 4 with on demand sales. 3.5 without it.
EDIT:
I checked the official numbers, its 3.32M in solid disc copies, and 4.17 total including PSN downloads.
So yep, a "demo" that totally failed in sales.
[QUOTE="Kennysolidsnake"][QUOTE="nZiFFLe"]Yea well Motorstorm sold 3.5 million copies and Motorstorm pacific rift barely broke a million thats because they lost interest in the game. Gran Turismo has a huge Fanbase dating back to 1998. No. The original Motorstorm was a pack-in game at one point, that is why it had better sales.Uhh, didn't GT5P sell like 3M? Yea...

Ha ha...no it won't.
While I don't think it still has the same selling power as it did in the PS1 and PS2 days, the Gran Turismo franchise is still a force to be reckoned with. The fact that Polyphony Digital was able to package and sell nearly 4 million copies of what was essentially a glorified demo for $40 all but proves this.

When Motorstorm came out the only good game on the PS3 was Resistance. When Pacific Rift came out there were loads of games including Resistance 2, Little Big Planet, and multiplats like Mirror's Edge. I'm inclined to believe that Mortorstorm's sales are reflected by what games are out when it releases.

Gran Turismo 5 sales will no doubt be huge. But anyone thinking it's going to sell 10 million+ or something is crazy. Someone show them the way to the hosital, quick! :?

lol, no competition? riiiight did you just start gaming when you pick up ur 360 2 yrs ago? there has always been huge competition in the racing genreGran turismo never really had any true compatition before hand did it.
