Am I the only one who thinks this game looks like the first GTA on the PC?1xcalibur1Everyone thought that. However, GS' review says that it's more like the later GTAs than the first two.

However, GS' review says that it's more like the later GTAs than the first two. Exactly. It reminds me a lot of GTA 3 on PS2. It's quite an accomplishment for the DS hardware.

Are you kidding me? It only shows how much Nintendo has "evolved" over the years. I've seen GameGear games that looked better than this.[QUOTE="Cherokee_Jack"][QUOTE="1xcalibur1"]Am I the only one who thinks this game looks like the first GTA on the PC?Bigboi500

I've seen GameGear games that looked better than this.Don't get me wrong I'm not saying it matches that game visually, I'm just saying the environments and scenarios are very similar. It does look much better playing the game in motion than it does looking at screenshots though. Also I think this GTA is more stylish than past GTA games with the Asian vibe going on. If you enjoyed GTA 3 through San Andreas I'd suggest you try it out.[QUOTE="Cherokee_Jack"] Everyone thought that. Someone didn't learn their lesson. Visuals aren't everything.

I didnt say anything about the game's general quality. I'm sure it's fun...but then again it's visuals are over 10 years of age and that's depressing. So much for "accomplishment for the DS hardware"...

Bingo.
Nintendo's handhelds have progressed on the same level as home consoles did; if you're dissatisfied with Nintendo's lack of evolution, you're dissatisfied with the lack of noteable change from one generation to the next in the industry as a whole. Aside from power, though, Nintendo has managed to evolve the GBA quite a bit; they compensated for the terrible power with unique hardware.
I understand screenshots are terrible, and the main reason critics appreciate the visuals are because of the incredible level of detail for a DS game (where DS games that actually look good rely on style and try to mask system limitations), so the game will look bad to a lot of people. At the same time, the dual-screened presentation and gameplay makes up for this lack of technical prowess. So, in my opinion, Nintendo's progression is satisfactory.
