I hear many people arguing about games. (360 vs ps3 exclusives much?) I hear graphics as one of the reasons why this game is better than that. So in the end why does it matter? Consider this: Uncharted or Halo 3 720p graphics Both spectacular gameplay or [Insert pathetic 360/ps3 game here] 1080i/p graphics Horrible gameplay Graphics are only PART of the game. Gameplay is MOST of the game. So why do people say "wow ps3/360 has better graphics than ps3/360"?
graphics usually represent production values. When a game looks good 95% of the time the game plays good. Look at even wii titles. What are the best games on the wii? Super Mario galaxy, and super smash brothers brawl. What are the 2 best looking games on the wii? Super smash brothers brawl, and super mario galaxy. Every game that has great graphics usually has great gameplay, etc. It has always been like this because a talented programmer is usually going to be on the best development teams.

yet id enjoy uncharted that much more at 1080p with better graphics.
its one of the reasons i game on the pc. while its not a huge deal id rather spend the same amount and have a better visual experience it makes the game that much better.
graphics can go a long way towards immersion which is a huge part of making the gameplay seem good. the 'best' gameplay is pointless if the player isnt imerssed and feels detatched
Very few games are 1080p on consoles anyway, so i don't see what resolution has got to do with it.
Theres plenty of 720p games that look worse than MW2 which runs at 600p, resolution only makes a game more crisp and sharp, not add more effects or eye candy.
Graphics are brought up because it is the ONLY thing that is comparable. Gameplay, sound and music, art style etc.. are all subjective but with graphics theres no debate just which one has better graphics. Graphics also show what a console is capable of if X console can produce Y game that has better graphics than Z console's W game then by definition X console is the stronger console.
L4D, HL2, among others, are proof that you don't need to have the best graphics to have a great game. Cows want you to think that graphics make the game, but that's not the way it works. You have to forgive cows though. This is the first gen where their console has the current edge in graphics, and they're so happy, they don't know how to act. How long this edge lasts is hard to say, but I believe the 360 will have it's turn again.

HL2 had some of the best graphics when it was released and L4D still does as well.
