Graphics Battle! Gears of War (PC) vs Uncharted [No 56k]

Uncharted looks better than GOW on the 360, but its newer and on the ps3 , but the pc version will look better, but only on a high end computer you have to admit the gapp between pc and console is closing, consoles will never be par with the pc in terms of graphics and physics. But now it seems the only way to have a pc game look better tyhan the console version is to have an expensive high end one.

at least on this gen thats truth, but the pc is about to make another leap in terms of graphics and technology, we just need to see on how much better Dx10 can make a game, i dont think crysis is the limit

Agreed. Obviously Gears will look better on PCs b/c it's newer and a PC can have extra high textures and all that jazz.

In my opinion. Uncharted looks better than both (PC and 360 gears). Again, it is simply my opinion and the reason behind it is that i prefer the overall look of uncharted to that of Gear's, and it's a very fine achievement from a technical standpoint as well. However, i think that both games look amazing and it is foolish to say something like "oh this looks miles better" because they both are beautiful. If you were to get down to pure technicality, i think it would go GeoW PC > Uncharted > GeoW 360, something like that.BrownWalrus

Uncharted wins by a mile. I'm not sure the PC has enough RAM for good textures and you can really see the Cell working hard in that pic.TiberiusKane

Higher resolution textures and higher resolution display give the graphics a cleaner look. Also the lighting is gears isn't nearly what it is in Uncharted. And for me lighting really makes a game look amazing.

Gears 360 > any PS3 title. Both in scores, sales, and graphics.

Gears has better textures and more polygons.
Uncharted has nice lighting and is clearer.
Both have slightly cartoony look to them.

Both games look really amazing (pc GeOW >>>> 360 version...) but the only thing that gears has thats better is the normal mapping (textures). Thats where all the games detail is at. Not actual polygons. I'm an anal person when it comes to things like that, but thats cuz I mess around with 3D design stuff all the time. (Time to get really critical)

Gears
Pros: Amazing textures and mapping, along with a great use of sprites that don't look crappy.
Cons: Low(er) poly count, Feild of Depth is kinda..too exagerated (or is that LOD textures / fog?). Meh animations.

Uncharted
Pros: High(er) polys, amazing draw distance, lighting seems to be a strength along with animation. Beautiful environments
Cons: Not as much mapping, texture filtering doesn't seem that great right now (example of last image on the left side of the picture, the texture looks kind of blurry since its angled away that much).

Verdict: Uncharted
This was honestly a close call for me, but in all honestly, it came down to how each supported their details in their graphics. for me. Even though Gears is clearly stronger in the mapping of the textures it seems Epic depended too much on the textures to create the detail of the game. As you can see in the 4th pictures, the monster shown is has lower polygons than my counter strike source models on low. All their detail came in the mapping, and even then the details weren't that great. Take note of the chains all over its body as they are flat on the model. At times the textures also seem to look "muddy" as they are not great at all if they don't have the mapping. As for Uncharted, it seemed they tried to work with more polygonal rendering instead of the mapping. I'm not sure if that was because it was hard to map or what, but they only seemed to use mapping on the things with very fine details and not with everything in general. (That rope bridge looks crappy though lol) It honestly looks like the textures are either higher in resolution or they are working with a larger variety to make it look like that they aren't much of "tiles" as they are..textures I guess.

Graphically they both look top notch. Other then that its all up to art style and they both have such drastically different ones. Uncharted is bright, colorful.

Gears of War for the 360 was released a year ago while Uncharted has gotten presumablymore development time. I dont see this as unfair in anyway.

Both games had 2 years of development time.

Wow the fanboy biast is absoutley hillarious please compare either one in the visual department Uncharted absoutley destroys both of them . And the pc verison doesnt even look that much better then the 360 version. Both have primative lighting, toy soldier character models and stiff animations it looks like an absoutle joke comapred to Uncharted and every professional review will praise Uncharteds visuals hell of alot more then Gears of war.

All I have to go by is what I've played on the 360.

Going by that, Uncharted looks superior to me. Although the 60fps the PC version has is a great addition, if they've got rid of the host advantage the game might actually be worth playing online.
