*Looks at RTX 2070* Stay strong my little RTX 2070 friend, stay strong.

I have no reason to upgrade anything just yet beside the CPU which aren't being effective by the silicon. I have so many games in the backlog err in my gaming collection, any PC gamer knows you only upgrade when you "think" you need to.

Keep in mind we do have few PC gamers still running GTX 970 which runs most games they throw at it with no problems...looking at you CP2077.

I'm still content with my 2080 Ti Asus ROG Strix 😊

I personally don't plan on upgrading my GPU until possibly next year but that all depends on whether I'm interested in the 42'' OLED from LG. If not I'll stick with my ultrawide.

Really hope my GTX 980 lasts until current high-end graphics cards arent the cost of a new build alone. Getting to the point I wish there was a version of the Series X that you could put Windows on and boom, sweet gaming PC for $500.

Chances are, it will be. Consider this. Consider you're a game developer for PC and you are developing a game. Do you make it so visually stunning that only the very, very small portion of the population who could afford a scalped 3080 can enjoy it, or do you target a performance level that is much, much more common in the PC gaming world? The most common GPU in use today is the 1060. RX580s and 590s are pretty common too. That's what developers will be targeting until enough people have better. And if prices on "better" go up, then it's going to take long before enough people reach that point that game development will be focusing on it.

Also, you do not need 4K, ray tracing, DLSS, or even anti-aliasing to have the most enjoyable experience. So do not feel left out if you cannot run those largely irrelevant technologies on your hardware.

I'd rather spend $2000 on a single graphics card than $500 on a console.

I think I'd rather just read* if my PC ever took a crap on me.

Consoles are that unappealing to me.

*Not to say I dislike reading, I read every day, but video games are, well...just more fun!

@robert_sparkes said:

Have graphics cards ever been cheap.

They've been affordable.

But no, not cheap. That term is relative though. Is 150 cheap? 500?

I'd classify "substantially less that a console" to be cheap, in which case we've had several instances of cheap GPUs. Back in 2013, you easily find a gpu that handily beat the brand new "most powerful console ever built" for under $200 (HD 7870). Going back further to early 2009, you could get a high end GPU also for under $200 (HD 4870) that completely blew consoles out of the water for the rest of their (overly long) generation. Days of performance/price like that are sadly probably beyond us now.

Right, and that's always sort of been my arguing point. You can take a cheap PC bought from Dell or Cosco or wherever and drop a 200-dollar card in it easily and *bam* awesome gaming rig.

Not so true any more. I am sure there are some OK options on the used/refurbished market out there if you're desperate.

That 980 is a sweet card man, I had mine for a good five or so years, and it was running just fine when I swapped it out for my 2080.

I gave it to a friend and I think he is still using it. If you're at 1080p still, it's a great card.

@fedor: It's probably the best way to go. Then all someone can do is upgrade the parts after.

As Im playing older PC games... GW2, FF14, and a bunch of stuff on Steam... the card has been rocking everything I throw at it even at 4K, which is surprising, given it wasnt marketed as a 4K card.

I literally finished building my system getting the 3070 on launch day before the craziness began. I had a feeling things were going to get bad and I was right. Could've ended up with a crap 1060 for $500 if I had waited.

It's a great build. You picked top end parts, so it is not going to be cheap. You probably could have saved $400 or so going through Cyber Power PC. Still a $3000+ build.

Nope, also their cases are too large for my liking.😥

https://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Gamer-Master-9500

$3071 for 5950X, RTX 3080, 32GB RAM (I swapped out the 3080 Ti for a 3080, changed the RAM to 32GB and switched SSD+mechanical combo to 1TB NVMe).

So, you could indeed save $500+. As for the case, that is your personal preference. The core components of your build are accounted for.

Either way, you can't complain about the price of pre-builts when you are choosing enthusiast parts which are usually overpriced under normal conditions and excessive for gaming anyway. A 5950X is way overkill and unnecessary for gaming purposes. However, I know you use this PC for work related stuff, so I am not questioning your choice.

I already showed you in my first post that you can get a good gaming PC for not much more than $2K. Pre-builts are definitely the way to go if you want to get shit close to MSRP right now.

Wowza, who wants to be a PC gamer right now?

I don't buy latest hardware on ebay, that is for idiots who want to get scalped. I buy from stores when it is original MSRP and use deals. Mine was cheap.

No thanks I personally rather game on PC.

I prefer playing PC's genres that are rarely on (or suck to play on) consoles, I enjoy competitive gaming (does any consoles even have 1/10th of PC's competitive scenes/games? The Cows here always try to sweep this one under the rug), larger communities, and vastly larger high score library last gen. I also prefer KB/M to controller by a mile. While PC can use the most controller, not all consoles can use KB/M effectively in every game. Especially not god-tier custom keyboards that use unique software. I prefer Ultrawide which doesn't work right on consoles. I like to alt-tab often to quickly do 10 other things time to time while I play video games.

If I need to spend more than all 3 of those I will. Heck forget just hardware, my PC gaming chair costs more than those 3 combined. My custom KB might exceed those costs too once I'm done with it.

Consoles? No Thanks. Maybe I'll visit my cousins house to watch the next PS5 movie game once every 2 years.

The 42" sure is interesting as a monitor. But only if you really, really want HDR... Because otherwise I'd rather stick with the ultrawide aspect ratio :)

I'm waiting for a 34-38"(the good ultrawide) miniled monitor at least have over 1,200 dimming zones for true HDR. Asus and Samsung released a 32" and 49"(too long) ones, but I'm not a fan of those aspect ratios.

Yeah they are overpriced, but I like high zone miniled over OLED. MUCH faster and no burn in. Best of both worlds. A little blooming though.

Similarly, I have a 3070 and 1440p. I was shooting for a 3080 but I'm glad I snagged a 3070 for the original round 1 msrp. Personally, I don't think even 1440p is really needed and I'm viewing a 32" monitor. It's noticeable for sure, but no one should be upset about sticking with 1080p. You get more frames with less hardware and frames are king IMO.

Whoever suggested PC games weren't that much cheaper than console is mistaken. I just bought Doom Eternal for $15. I haven't seen it used for that price on consoles, not to mention the PC version is the better experience. Patience is hugely rewarded with PC, and I believe the person claiming it even compared the cost of a PC to a disc-less PS5 which in turn cuts out used games too. Just silly.

Nobody is denying that the price of components has been ridiculous for a while now, but pre-builts still keep the overall pricing for a rig somewhat reasonable and make components available to people without having to go through scalpers. Also, nice deflection on the $500+ that you could have saved. Keep overpaying and complaining about those pre-built prices though. LOL

@zaryia: Yes, I will be going with miniled or microled for my next monitor :)

Burn in sounds way more comon for pc use anyway. With ui elements always being in the same spot.

Non of that changes the fact that pre-built computers are expensive, that is what you are trying to argue against and failing at it. What you consider "reasonable" is $2000+.

Deflecting? You cannot find a system with the specs (that includes the form factor among other things) for a price that $500+ less than I paid for. What I have decided to purchase was not in reference to what the average person should purchase and nor does it change pre-built PCs being expensive. Also, you made the false assumption that I got my system for gaming despite non of my comments mentioning anything about gaming but just the cost of the systems.

Despite all of that random sidetracking and being incorrect on what the cost of the system for my specs are, pre-built systems still remains expensive. But, you are here trying to argue to the contrary with a $2000+ PC. 🙄
