Graphics > Gameplay? Riiiiight...

This is getting on my nerves. It is not as black and white as you are making it sound. A game CAN have good graphics and good gameplay at the same time you know. This is a cheap excuse that people use to damage control the hype of a "Graphics king" competitor. Its on another system, so they tell themselves "bu..bu...bu...its all graphics and NO gameplay" even though all of the reviewers and critics tell them otherwise.

Bottom line, having good graphics is a PRO, not a CON.

No one said it was a con. What people are saying is that a flashy game that plays badly isn't a good game.

I don't know any one who thinks that graphics > gameplay. IMO gameplay>story>graphics unless we're talking about Killer 7 and Yakuza 1 in theses cases it would be story> gameplay (which wasn't that grea in Killer 7)>graphics.

If we look at most of the top scoring games - Gears of War, Oblivion, Bioshock, Halo 3, Killzone 2, Batman AA, Uncharted 2, Demon's Soul, MGS4, GTA4, Forza 3, Crysis etc....all of them had good graphics. This implies that graphics is neither the sole determinate, nor can it be completely irrelevant to a game's success.

Every once in a while, we get a puzzle game which scores AAA, but rarely.

Can't argue with the statistics there.

Um, good games usually have good graphics or art. I havnt seen very many "good" games entirely flop on graphics. Of course gameplay is better than graphics but graphics add A LOT to a game, be it the art or realistic style.

Come on. Don't put the pressure all on Nintendo. There has only been one serious 2D game one the graphics consoles which I know can make a very long full 2D game or a very good looking 2.5D game.

Just 'Gameplay' was a thing of the past.

Now its 'Graphics and Gameplay' going together that counts in this HD era.

Realistic Shooters, Racing Games, Flight Sims, even Platforming games are part of the formula.

Most people who'd opt for the gameplay option, either dont enjoy good graphics or cant afford it (crysis anyone?)

Either way, heres hoping to more better looking (and gameplay!) games in the future.8)

i think gameplay is more important then graphics coz a game with good gameplay and mediocre graphics is still agood game but that doesnt mean its ok to have wii like graphics today. once you play amazing looking games like ucharted, gears 1, killzone 2 then its hard to go back to trash graphics like on the wii.

graphics dont change the game. they can add to it but they dont take away from the actual gameplay. if you can take away the graphics and the game becomes unplayable it was never a good game to begin with.

Take GTA3, GTA: VC, GTA: SA for instance. None had upgraded graphics from the previous ones and they sold like magic.

Basically, Games now need both to be a completely great experience but you can have a great experience with just great gameplay. Great Graphics will only give you a Great Visual appreciation but you won't be able to enjoy it unless you just sit there and look at it.

If you want great graphics and no gameplay, go watch a Movie. Games are meant to have great Gameplay first. Graphics are a finishing touch.

do u need both yes and no history has given us examples where some games had one or the other now when both come together its great but if not that doesnt mean the game will blow dog it all comes down to the gamers choice

True but a game with good gameplay no matter how it looks will at least allow the player to have an enjoyable experience, but a game with only good graphics can only be good to look at, the enjoyment won't be there unless it's a game where the point is to look at things and relax like "Flower".

Ironically, Playstation fans believed gameplay > graphics. Now im not so sure.
