Didn't know where to put this, but since you could make it about individual systems i put it here.

Question: Would you be satisfied games were the same graphically (use the best graphically game you can think of), but just ran better? To me, outside of simple things like AA or higher resolution, graphically games could stay the same for me. I can't imagine them being leaps and bounds better over the next 10 yrs.

Though I do want to see them run faster and more smoothly. Which shouldn't be an issue, CPU's should be much better by next gen. To me it seems the focus is now on interface Ie. Natal, Move. I don't want to say "how could games look any better than this", but the question should they bother making better graphics than now.Curious to see if you guys would be ok with basically the same GRAPHICALLY looking games just running alot better.

im with you for the most part I'd much prefer to see 60 fps across the board and higher AA rather than better lighting, shadows, shaders and whatnot with inconsistent 30 fps rates

I would be happy to see Uncharted like graphics power with lots of atmosphere that games seam to never have, rain, wind, smoke etc to immerse the gamer that and 1080p 60fps and then yea, i'd never need to upgrade from their.

when devs dont make anything amazing it is up to the modders to make the already amazing games even better looking.

Graphics aren't at a Plateau.

Until you see and play a game that looks like you have actual people acting out on a screen and you are controlling them is when you know graphics are at it's maximum.

The first time I saw a thunder bolt during nighttime while playing Stalker: Clear Sky made my jaw drop. Amazing atmosphere.

I think they need to plateau for about the next 5 years. I'd like to see the next gen consoles get everything smooth, great frame rate, improved physics, many a bit more exploration in games. You know get other stuff up. Let technology develop, we shouldn't sacrifice other things to improve graphics, but that's unfortunately what goes on a lot.

I think what's even more of an issue are development costs. Those amazing graphics aren't as easy to make as drawing bitmaps were. The biggest gap to creating hyper-realistic graphics in the future will be the enormous amount of time, effort and money involved to make it happen.

And, after all, who will want to pay more than $60 for a game? It's a net loss in profits for developers.

Haha, that's great. :P

Anyway, I can't wait until we see Final Fantasy look just like the CGI cutscenes (realistic fluid animation, sparkly stuff everywhere...)

yea i wouldnt mind it if it freed up more resources and lowered devs costs..thus promoting more risk taking and new ideas. long live the current gen. but can graphics get better? oh hell yes. crysis is the benchmark by which all graphics (on the tech side at least) are judged..but thats a 3 year old game. needless to say hardware has moved on alot but software is now way behind the curve. if there was to be a new crysis..by which i mean a new game where the dev basically said "screw the hardware and requirements...lets go nuts on the tech and visuals and physics and so on" it would make crysis look completly outdated and old. sadly economic law kicks in. makign a game like that costs a hell of alot fo money and no dev or publisher is willing to take the risk.

I want to see performance improved, the graphics are at a level that they really dont need to be better IMO. There is such a thing as to realistic, which IMO takes part of what makes a game a game away.

That's sorta my point. Do you want to see that much realism? I mean FMV were big for the Sega CD, but if that's your thing....

I never want that . I play games to escape into this crazy alternate universes made up by imagination. I still wish more sevs focused on making kh2 like graphics for current gen consoles with more time but into making more lvs and improving gameplay.
