Actually those aren't too far from it. As someone said the backgrounds in those were great and so are the character models.

Far Cry suffers from Uncharted syndrome (yes I just coined that term). People think that just because it takes place on a tropical island that it looks better than it really is. Half-life 2 and Doom 3 destroy far Cry on a technical level.

Sure, Half-life wins in the animations department, and Doom 3 wins as far as texturing goes, but don't forget the size and scale of the tropical island in Far Cry. That alone is a technical feat, and in my opinion, pushes it past the other two.

Dreamcast - Shenmue (Adding into the Scope of the the game for a game that was on a CD while all the other games that gen were on DVD or in the GCNs case Mini DVD)

PS2 - Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (Best looking PS2 game I played)

GCN - Metroid Prime (First time I played played it I was like wow this seems so real and the Partical effects added to that like when you went in the water Condensation would appear on your visor that is something that Halo on the Xbox didn't do I don't think they had it in Halo 2 either (I forget that because the last time I played it was a while ago) Also for GCN I would say Rougue Squadron 3: Rebel Strike (Since it looks like a 360 Launch title)

Xbox - (I have know Idea since I didn't really own one but I would say Ninja Gaiden Black since I seen pictures of it and I also saw some gameplay footage)

PC - Half Life 2 (It looks good today IMO)

On consoles, Ninja Gaiden Black, easily.

I used to think that was a three-way toss-up between NGB, Riddick and Chaos Theory. But after having gone back and played it recently, it's definitely Ninja Gaiden Black. It still holds up today.

As far as PC (aka overall graphics king), it was probably Far Cry or Half-Life 2. And maybe Doom 3, though it greatly lacked in physics. Out of the three, I'd lean towards FC. It was highly advanced for its time and the tropical paradise setting was fresh. At this point, if Crytek makes a game, you can pretty much count on it being the overall graphics king (as well as an excellent game in its own right).
