I have been going through my backlog and I just recently played through Beyond: Two Souls on the PS3. This game just blew me away with its production values. The graphics look amazing, even by current gen standards. The performance capture is fantastic as well. The frame-rate is really bad at times though. I can't think of a single game on last gen that looks better than it. The game itself is really good if you are a fan of story driven adventure games. Solid 8/10.

I would say Beyond: Two Souls is the graphics king of last gen. Any other contenders?

Uncharted 3 on consoles, though I'd also give it to Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. That game looks fantastic on PS3 and is 60 FPS.

If PC counts than probably a Crysis game.

Yup, Beyond: Two Souls. Incredible looking game, and also one of the GOAT.

hum... personally the most beautifull games I played (both technically and artistically) were:

GoW 3 and Ascension

Uncharted 2 and 3

TLoU

Crysis 2 and 3 (yes, even on consoles they were amazing looking games)

Killzone 2 and 3

GTA V

so, between these if we only count consoles cause if we count PC then we all know the answer for that

I am more impressed with open world games. Skyrim looked amazing and when you consider the size of the area and the amount of places you can go into, it is an achievement. With such player freedom and such vast areas and looking that good it is great. Much easier to make a linear game look good then a vast open world game. Sure Beyond two souls looked good but when you factor in the fixed camera, limited player movement, almost no enemy AI, scripted events, ect, then it is far easier to look good.

Consoles - Yakuza 5 and Yakuza Zero on PS3. They're open-world games with graphics that look more technically impressive than GTA 5. But since they still haven't released in the West, I wouldn't be surprised if most pick GTA 5 instead. But comparing the two, Yakuza 5 & Zero definitely look better than GTA 5.

PC - Far Cry 3. The next generation technically began in 2012, and that was the best-looking game up until then. Crysis 2 comes very close, but Far Cry 3 takes the edge with its open-world scale. And Crysis 3 came out in 2013, after the next-gen started, so I don't think that should be included.

I still think that Resident Evil 5 looks great. Looks fantastic at 1080P with no jaggies and running around 100FPS.

I'll go with Metal Gear Solid: Guns of the Patriots. Back then, Guns of the Patriots push the PS3 to it's limits by taking full advantage of Blu-Ray [which is why it never came to Xbox 360 due to no Blu-Ray support] and it still holds up well in today's standards and I consider it graphics king, no doubt.

^MGS4 took advantage of the blu ray massive capacity because of the uncompressed audio. Otherwise, it could have easily been done on Xbox 360.

There are a few that are arguably contenders, beyond is probably the best if you aren't including PC or Wii u. If you include PC I'd say from last gen it would be Tomb Raider and if you include Wii u I'd say pikmin 3 or Mario kart 8

But that would required Xbox 360 to include what 4 discs? Yeah not worth it and MS got stupid to supporting HD DVD and not going Blu-Ray which was also stupid.

Excluding PC I would say the best looking game I played on the consoles was The Last Of Us and Halo 4.

GTA V is also up there because of how it actually ran on the PS3/360 and still looked decent. Rockstar are a bunch of wizards.

Including the PC it's most certainly Crysis 3.

Halo 4, a perfect blend of artistic talent and technical mastery. I think it looks better than Halo 5 honestly.

I would say GTA 5, but I find that game only impressive on current gen systems. They had to cut a lot of corners to get that game running on a PS3 and 360, and it doesn't look as visually appealing as a result.

wrong. the first 3, yes(add in killzone 2/3 as well), if youre talking about consoles only. ive said multiple times that TLOU was not visually up to the level of uncharted. if you include the pc, again ive said crysis 3. kids these days.

That wasn't stupid, it's a format switch and at the time there's absolutely no telling which is going to become the standard. If HD DVD would have become the standard would you be calling Sony stupid?

Unmodded, the only correct answer is Crysis 3.

Modded, then you bring aesthetics into the situation and it could be anything from Skyrim to Arma II.

TLOU was freaking impressive. I couldn't believe it was running on a PS3 at times. The facial animations and how everything works is just amazing. It had shitty textures sometimes but yeah what game doesn't. I'd say the best looking moments of the game are enough for it to at least be mentioned.

GTAV. Need I say more? Now that is some black magic shit lol. Both ND and Rockstar are doing some wizardry to get these games running on 10 year old hardware.

These two games make me excited for what they can achieve on the PS4 this Gen. ND started with UC4 and I can't wait to see TLOU 2. And of course the next GTA, I think both will come late into this gen and impress.

Beyond looked excellent due to its extremely linear (QTE) nature. People who are saying TLOU are ignoring blurry textures and extremely low res shadows in the game, especially in a bit more open areas. TLOU is a better game but Beyond Two Souls looks way better.

1024x768. subHD = immediate disqualification.

Uncompressed audio only benefited the 5-10 au(i)diophiles who might have played it. Blu-Ray was never actually a big deal for Xbox 360 owners last gen. Those consoles couldn't handle high resolution textures anyways.

Besides, we're talking about 15 seconds worth of disc swapping vs. at least 20 minutes of mandatory installs. What's actually worse for immersion?

Yeah, that 15 seconds I had to spend swapping my ME2 discs...wish I could have it back...

it's even more hilarious because cows were the ones who made a gigantic shitstorm over it. After having to sit through all sorts of mandatory installs (and uninstalls, lel) they needed anything they could get.

Crysis 3 and that is by far

Witcher 2 and Far Cry 3 also were among the best looking games. Same goes for total war games if you consider scale
