The other Killzone 3 thread is tainted with fanboys arguing about graphics so we will make this to talk about the gameplay more.

So far I gotta say that I'm impressed. I liked what they were trying to do with the weighty controls of the last game going for more realism and a different ****of gun play. It ended up being a tiny bit too sluggish and that turned a lot of people off. Now looking at this footage, they've made a good compromise and everything looks nice and smooth. I hope this wins a lot of people back and that they put demos of this game on PS3 booths because people shouldn't have a problem with the controls now. Most importantly it looks like a ton of fun and it's going to be interesting to see what they do with motion blur for this game. They have a good 3 months of beta testing and polishing before we get this in Feb and I think that we may be getting something special here. I want to see a map which is designed for jet pack fighting only with small platforms that you have to land on. That would be pretty crazy.

Also, I'm glad that this is still primarily the same game in terms of intensity in battle. At 3:12 he accidentally throws the nade at himself and you see the whole room shake and you can hear the rubble crackling all around. Just seeing that makes me think about how hectic this game will be in the 12 vs 12 matches with nades going off.

Or what about this weapon:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPAyP7z3ifs

andhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8P8pNIzzV4

What do you guys think about how this game will shape up?

To me I think the improvements will be like Uncharted -> Uncharted 2

Don't know about the characters though. Story will probably be better, but I won't surprised if I still don't care.

I just want to try a tinnnnyyy bit of the beta, but I can wait. Killzone 2 got a ton of feedback so it's likely that this game will be amazing. Resistance 3 is going to have even more to prove after all of those complaints. I wonder if it has what it takes to out do Killzone 3.

I think KZ3's SP campaign will be the best of it's kind (for a shooter with a robust MP mode). And I think R3's campaign will be even better! I know Insomniac have a lot to prove, so I look forward to seeing it.

lol, a smidge harsh, but if it were on 360 as well it'd probably be 9 and Kz2 a 8.5. I don't care Kz3 looks awesome I hated the controller lag so much, I have the game sitting in a drawer, it's been there since July when My cousin wanted to play it. I haven't played it since last winter.

Looks really good. Sad that the controls have been "speed up" because I actually liked that.

I hate FPS games that make you aim down the sights with the left analog stick. I'm glad you can change it in Killzone 3. And I'm also happy that they flushed out the gunplay mechanics and made it better. Killzone 2 controls were so sluggish and painful to play at times.

You do realize you could also change it in KZ2 right? The only time i used the L3 zoom setup was in campaign when it made it more comfortable to get in and out of cover and zoom. In multiplayer where there is no cover system, I would switch it up to the L1-zoom setup, so the controls were more COD4-ish.

I have high hopes for this game. I better not be disappointed. It looks amazing so far, but I want information on final map count, clan improvements, and more vehicles. The information we have so far is great, I'd just like more. What I'm noticing is a crap load of small-medium changes. No new huge game modes like Horde or Firefight. What is actually there is being improved upon greatly and/or revamped for the better.

Sadly, I'm not seeing anything "innovative". It's most definitely "massive". Before anyone gets on me about criticizing it for not being "innovative", just know that I'm a Killzone freak. I take a developer's word with optimistic anticipation. Steven Ter Heide said these words, I'm just trying to see if the game lives up to it. Right now it looks massive and unique. They adopt great ideas and mold them with Killzone flavor. It's all good to me.

As for the videos, they look crazy good. The muliplayer textures, framerate, models and everything else that falls under a graphics category has been improved. The single player should look even better. You could say its a forerunner for most impressive console engineering. It looking as beautiful as it does, stable, MLAA, while in 720p 3D and all that tech stuff.

OSDT is good enough to score a 9.0 by xbox360 standards so no. if OSDT was exclusvie to PS3 it would probably score a 2. The standards for PS3 exclusives are just too high to be compaired with what is acceptable for xbox360 games that get the same score IMO.

KZ2 was flooded with awards and praise for the standards it set for FPS on consoles, won FPS of the year and all but because its PS3 exclusive it can only get 9.0

OSDT...lol wasn't awared with jack on GS . it's an expansion to a 2007 game on a 2 year old engine but lol that good enough to get a 9.0...on the xbox360

Lol, I only exaggerate because many lemmings seem to exaggerate like this. Honestly tho, going by MY standards KZ2 is only a 9.0 game but since by my standards it take a game like KZ2 to scroung by a 9.0 for me I konw that something like OSDT is far behind.

I would honestly give OSDT maybe a 7.5 (that's a pretty good score from me for a game of that level of quality released in 2009)

Just so you konw Yes, I do have a xbox360 and quite a few of it's many praised games.

ODST is just an overrated 360 game, just like Resistence2 is an overrated PS3 game. It happens in any platform :|

I was joking and you should act like you were aswell. 360 and PS3 are similar platforms, obviously with the same standards.

Bland gameplay....CHECK

Uninspired dreary level design....CHECK.

Nice weapon models though I like the WASP grenade/rocket launcher thing.

Sp4rtan_3

Bland gameplay? Did you see the melee kill? Did you see what happens when grenades go off close to you? Have you even played a 32 player match in Killzone 2 before with even teams...? It's easy as labeling things as 'bland' when you don't actually sit through and get into the game. Besides, it's a beta and you don't even get to see all the weapons. Killzone 2 was a lot more intense than most FPS's. Killzone 3 will be even more so.. Also, Killzone 2 had some of the best level design for an FPS (in terms of balance) and Killzone 3 will probably continue that, this time with slightly more color (hopefully).

I think KZ3's SP campaign will be the best of it's kind (for a shooter with a robust MP mode). And I think R3's campaign will be even better! I know Insomniac have a lot to prove, so I look forward to seeing it.

meh killzone has always had a terrible campaign. game should be multiplayer focused.

Not impressed. It looks good in terms of how it plays, but none of it really feels like anything that should be surprising or feel like an addition/improvement. It looks more fluid/tighter, but that was expected. The controls weren't exactly responsive the first time by, but I do question if the weighty feel is still there. He almost seemed to move his gun with ease. Audio sounds cool though, and well presentation was never in question. Visually it's still good, animations are on point, and the effects like the camera shaking was always going to be there. Personally I wanted to see more of how the different cIasses play, and how the game might be trying to put more of a focus on team coordination through the cIasses. Outside of that though the MP looks like it's going to be very good, and I'm looking forward to the sniper. I'll stick to my current hype: Good multiplayer, not so good single player. and I still predict it's getting a 9.0 at the least. NO way it scores lower.

Mech looks like it can get on a rampage pretty quick, but he is playing against bots, so they are probably too stupid to take him out, I just don't want to see anything get overpowered.

Remember it's just the beta though. I'd rather them stay silent on any additions they are making to the game. Also, I'm hoping that they've got enough bashing on the single player that they end up producing a story worth being attentive towards. Character, I don't think there is any hope there - they suck. Overall, I do like the changes and I feel that people will be much more open to this game.

This is only time I've ever wanted to be a PS+ member - just for this beta, lol. I know what Sony is going to do though and I hate them in advance this. To play the Uncharted 3 beta, guess what you're probably going to need? Or what if they have a beta for Starhawk?

Nice weapon models though I like the WASP grenade/rocket launcher thing.

It's not unique from a game play perspective(spin it anyway you want, but it's Call of Duty on some crack at times). But I always found Killzone to at least play well from a mechanical standpoint. Unresponsive control, and input lag aside the heavy feel of the weapons, the recoil, and the feedback really made shooting someone in that game satisfying. Plus the cIasses once you finally unlocked them added a lot of things to the gameplay. Some of it was a bit too mindless/hectic at times, but all things considered Killzone plays very well. Level design is pathetic, and map design is just dull. That said the maps played very well for the MP modes in Killzone 2.

NO way it scores lower. jg4xchamp
You do know there were only 5 people in the MP for his introduction right (due to the beta not opening to the public yet)? Plus there is a lot more to come as far as new features, and info on the maps, the guns, and SP.

The story is hardly the problem. Level design is where the first game fell short, and fell hard. It tried too hard to play out like a Call of Duty game. It was banking too much on superior gun play/superior AI to carry it over the CoD norm. The problem was the level design was too narrow and confined at times. It really felt like you were moving from corridor to corridor. The pacing was just sloppy as it was just a relentless go forward, fight waves, enjoy setpiece, go forward again. There was very little deviation from that formula, and it entered the same tropes Halo, Call of Duty, and all these other console shooters fall into. It got mindnumbing and boring.

What they should do is take a page out of Halo's book and let the level design open up some more, and go beyond the just spamming waves of enemies. Let that helghan AI get some breathing room. The AI will be able to really engage the player, and with a more open level design you really give some versatility to the player. It's what makes the good Halo missions good(the rest of the games have their own issues). It's what made some of the Uncharted 2 levels really awesome(especially on the 3rd or 4th playthrough). You could have just ran in guns blazing, but you had multiple ways to take out the first batch of guards. Either by being stealthy and getting them at once, or getting to a nice high spot to really bring some death upon them. The story to me is an after thought, but I rarely enjoy a plot in videogames. Most are just a tad too awful. Good atmosphere at times though.

The Beta should be testing out all the new stuff. It's what Halo did. IT gave you more than enough Halo with the Reach beta because everything needed to be beta tested. Do I miss certain things about the beta? Yeah the Comedy gun was way more awesome. It should have stayed over powered lol, and yes it probably did give me too much of the experience too quick. But it worked best for the game. Killzone 3 should beta test as much as it possibly can(which I think it honestly is doing). There's no shame in not having obvious improvements/additions. There is a major difference between playing a game and watching a game.

and I'm suppose to be psychic and make a comment on what I haven't seen or was shown in the OP? or make my comments on what was in the OP and share my opinion? Just saying. Besides the lack of people hardly had anything to do with anything I said :?

Gameplay looks great

I will know more once the Beta opens up on the 25th, more people in the map will show what the level design and gunplay is really like.

The amount of people in the game wouldn't change how his play looked other than making the game more chaotic. In fact more people would have made the footage look worse. It would look sloppy, wouldn't show off the mechanics(not that they need to be shown off, it's a FPS on consoles), etc. The mech footage T-real showed doesn't look fun because of the people. I mean he's obliterating bots(who are clearly dumb). It's just badass looking because of the mech.

Dont believe the hype.

Opinons are fun! I thought the opposite of KZ2 with its laggy controls, bland uninspired gameplay and drap feel and level design, KZ3 looks like more of the same to me but with "improved controls" and a lower player count.

That wasnt the point to what I was saying. He shouldnt get his hopes too high for a beta that hasnt even fully opened yet.
