i don't mean "mechanics" or "cinematics", or "moments when I realized I could..." I mean individual sequences while progressing through the game that really blew you away.. and not many people really talk about it (ie, Would You Kindly" and "When I realized what the G-Gun was for.." don't need mentioning..for the latter, instead talk about your greatest moment WITH the G-Gun)

for me:

 • The fight with the haystack/terminator thing in Conker's Bad Fur Day. The atmosphere suddenly swept over me, and I felt a truly dramatic vibe replacing the old goofy one. Kinda like when Ellen Page cries in Juno.
 • In F.E.A.R.: Extraction Point , there is a room soaked in blood and containing those swift shadowy things with red eyes. The atmosphere was genuinely horrifying. This point is best known for being in the EP Demo.
 • Going to the bar and questioning people in Beyond Good and Evil. This is was when I became incredibly immersed.

I second you with Fear. That was incredible. I think in many ways that game is still over looked.

The scene in The Darkness when
Uncle Paulie shoots Jenny, totally blew me away, and nobody ever talks about it, one of the most helpless feeling moments in gaming, ever
I would have to think real hard about more, maybe I'll edit some more in later

Spoilers Be ahead!

-Last boss fight in Serious Sam: The First Encounter, having a freaking 700 feet tall monster chasing you while running to a huge pyramid while hundreds of other damn monsters shoot at you was incredibly exhilarating.

-The part in Republic Commando when you enter that ghost ship and you're in this dark room, and they tell you to turn on your night vision and there's dead bodies all around you.

-That spinning ride sequence in the carnival in Sam & Max Hit the Road.

-The level in Doom 2 with the damn Spider Mastermind and Cyber Demon in like the first 10 seconds of the level, or the level with the room with a Cyberdemon and like 50 Barons of Hell.

Do you hear about it anymore? I've maybe heard a handful of people talk about it outside of some reviews. Hell, who even talks about The Darkness now anyways? Easily one of the most overlooked games this gen.

The scene in Serous Sam - The First Encounter where you face massive waves of enemies near city`s walls.

Perhaps one of my most powerful FPS memories ever.

After publishing my LittleBigPlanet level called 'Oculynth' and saw streams of positive comments, some calling it the best level ever made, getting flooded with friend requests from fellow LBP players, seeing it climb to over 30,000+ plays...I felt so proud of myself. I don't think any gaming moment can top that for me.

Yea The Darkness was a very good overlooked game. I really loved the last level where you just Tear your way through the mansion.

I always find myself having The Darkness at the tip of my trigger finger whenever one of these ''that no one talks about'' threads pop up. That scene in particular should've been chonicled in the annuals of videogame history. :)

It was that scene that cemented my love for The Darkness. It's story, characters and overall atmosphere are unmatched in the FPS genre. It's such a great game, criminally underappreciated around here. I wish Starbreeze would announce a The Darkness 2, we need some real closure after that killer of an ending.

Watching the lift with all the scientists drop down very quickly in the original Half Life at the start. Immersive? No, was just hilarious. I watched it several times after the first.

The start of MoH:Frontline was pretty :o, when I played it anyway. I hadn't seen that attempted in an FPS video game before, and it was pretty awesome. It was good in AA aswell, very similar, but not quite as dramatic I felt, if I remember correctly.

I remember these two but not much else for whatever reason. Mabye I will think of more latter.

... Freespace 2.. So many great memorable moments.. Seriously that game to me is one of the most innovative games ever seen.. Just the fact of what they were capable of doing in that game in a game that was released in 1999 was startling.. First time in a Nebula was awesome.. The Defense of the Capela space station with NTF forces attacking it. The defense of the Lysander and Antium fighting 4 crusiers, than having a unknown 3 km long destroyer ship jump in and annialiate them..

The first time a game scared me - Quake 2 with those things that you can hear tapping their front claws/feet way before you can find them.

Pulling off my first Firecracker with Akuma on SF alpha 2 on the Saturn.

Checking the final scores of Nintendo magazines Wave Race 64 competition and finding out I was faster on all of the courses, but never entered :?

Pulling off Lord Demos's 'Execute Him' move on Mace the dark ages.

Completing Achronox my first RPG.

Playing the N64 for the first time - I was blown away. Especially with Golden Eye and San Francisco Rush.

The list goes on, including loads that have already been mentioned.

I remember that part more than anything else in that game. I slapped myself in the face because I knew I should have seen it coming, but I didn't think ahead. i stopped breathing from shock for a second. Anyway, Discovering the Precursors in Jak 3 was my favorite moment in anything I had played on the PS2. I won't go into details, but if you saw this cutscene, you are already laughing.

From Planescape: Torment

Nordom : "Attention; Morte. I have a question. Do you have a destiny? A purpose?"

Morte : "Is Annah still wearing clothes?"

Nordom : "Affirmatory."

Morte : "Then the answer is yes."

It's hard to remember the SotC bosses, they all just merge into this big ball of awesome, and it gets confusing whos who. There are a few exceptions though like the flying snake thing and the final boss.

no one talks about his scene.
