GS Awards. Shadow of Mordor is GotY

PC GOTY is Divinity: Original Sin. Gamespot finally got something right.

So, looks like it's Shadow of Mordor, Mario Kart 8, Dark Souls 2, Divinity, or Hearthstone.

I think it's gonna be Divinity.

I'm actually ok with either Divinity or Dragon Age winning, but i'm still not giving up on Bayonetta 2.

The scores are done by one person while the awards are done by the staff. So the scores dont really come into play here.

So a little update here now that we have the PC game of the year:

I'm still leaning towards Gamespot picking Left Behind for overall game of the year.

That would be incredible stupid for them to do that.

I have a hunch either the GOTY is TLOU:LB or D:OS.

Divinity: Original Sin, won both the game of the month and PC game of the year
Mario Kart 8 and Bravely Default didnt get Game of the Month, not a very high chance they will get GOTY
Velocity 2X has a PS4 version, and the PS4GOTY was Shadows of Mordor.
Shadows of Mordor goty on several platforms but lost out to Divinity on PC.

Both a DLC and niche but awesome game would be controversial and get Gamespot some hits.

@Maroxad: Ah, good catch on some of those. Bravely Default lost to Last of Us: Left Behind in February and Mario Kart 8 lost to Super Time Force (which wasn't even nominated for anything) in May. As you said, Velocity 2X is on the PS4 and didn't even get a nomination on the platform. So it looks like it really is down to Last of Us: Left Behind and Divinity: Original Sin.

Imo Inquisition is fucking awful. I'm glad Divinity won.

Still rooting for Mario Kart 8.

You know, when SMG and MGS4 scored tens they won game of the year. If BAYO2 loses this is such absolute bull crap to the highest degree.

Gamespot has crappy award winners this year.

Although I do think the competition isn't strong. DAI is leading the GOTY award race and it isn't even Bioware's best game, Shadow of Mordor is okay and Alien Isolation (both who are 2nd place right now) is mixed.

IDK seems like GS really loved the MK 8 DLC.

MK8 is so great anytime someone mentions the game I want to go home and play it.

Dragon Age and Bayonetta 2 both lost out to other nominated GotY games. The 'winners' we have so far- MK8, Left Behind, Divinity, and... that's it- may have lost out in their respective months (or was that just MK8?) but they did win out in the GotY contention, which is what matters.

Well, SMG didn't got a 10, it got a 9.5 and that year it did won GOTY, when SMG2 scored a 10 it lost to Red Dead Redemption...still, as GS said (and i'm beginning to think that they said that for a reason) all their GOTM were automatically choices for overall GOTY.

It does say on the homepage that game of the month games are also being looked at in the GOTY decision so I do not know if those two games are still being talked about or if they have been thrown out of the GOTY discussions because they lost their platform GOTY section.

Just asked her, she thinks it's the greatest thing, next to only steak and kung-fu movies.

Yep. So a 10 not winning GotY has precedence is all I am saying.

I am not saying that the GotM games are officially thrown out or anything, just that it's clear that Gamespot thinks the three 'finalist' games are better than them, so the GotM games actually winning is very unlikely.

Calling it DLC is doing it a disservice, it's basically a full fledged expansion pack.

True. And I can't believe there's another one next year. I've never been this giddy about extra content before. I've avoided DLC even for most games that I like. Bioshock Infinite for example and the last of us.

@charizard1605: Why isnt Bravely Default a Finalist game? Since It wasnt beaten on the Platform GOTY anwhere. Only in GOTM like Mario Kart 8.

And yes, MK8 is more of an expansion pack. But Nintendo markets it as DLC, so yeah.

Yes but where did Larian get their funding from? Kickstarter, which is based in the USA.

TBH, the game was already in development and was planned to launch in 2013 but they asked for crowd funding to make the game better. They already had private investors and their own money. 900,000$ is nothing for a game like Divinity.

Finally a Game that Deserves it.

Well guess thats changed also that seems like an odd way to review a game. If thats the case the review should be listed as done by GS not the staff member.
