Pretty much all as expected. It's nice to see Mark of the Ninja getting some love in the nominations, even though it probably won't win. And it's a shame nobody has reviewed Planetside 2, it could probably compete for PC game of the year if nothing else.

It's very likely that PC game of the year will be Guild Wars 2

but if Mass Effect 3 wins RPG of the year, that would be a conflict, so hopefully Guild Wars 2 wins RPG of the year.

Since Gamespot is usually consistent with their nominations, I think I've figured out the winners for a couple of areas and what will likely be the big contenders for Game of the Year.

[spoiler] Dishonored will win action / adventure game of the year, as it is the only nominee that is also up for best PC, PS3 and 360 game.

XCOM will win strategy game of the year, as it is the only nominee that is also up for best PC, PS3 and 360 game.

Guild Wars 2 or Mass Effect 3 will win RPG of the year. Mass Effect 3 is up for best PC, PS3 and 360 game and Guild Wars 2 is up for best PC game. The rest of the nominees are absent from best game on the systems.

Halo 4 or Far Cry 3 will win shooter of the year. Borderlands 2 and Natural Selection 2 weren't nominated for any platforms game of the year; Max Payne 3 was only nominated for the PS3 game of the year. If Far Cry 3 wins though, then neither it or Halo 4 are contenders for game of the year overall, as Far Cry 3 is absent from PC game of the year.

The Walking Dead will likely be up for game of the year, but it probably won't win. For some reason, it's not up for any genre awards. [/spoiler]
