To all the people talking about "oh well this isn't worldwide," I would like to point out that it hardly matters that it isn't worldwide. Publishers do and always will model their business strategy off of the largest market. The United States IS the largest market for video games. Hence, the major publishers only worry about what the United States is buying and what the United States is interested in. Selling to a diverse global market is nearly impossible. Catering to each and every individual countries preferences and customs simply does not work. The type of games that the Japanese buy are not really all that similar to the type of games that Americans buy. Germans buy different games than the British. The French buy prefer different games from the Spanish. Each market has its own specific preferences. Catering to all of them is impossible. So, ultimately, even if the PS3 wins in every single other market in the ENTIRE WORLD, losing the United States means that it loses in the eyes of the publishers.
I think the best analog for this is to look at textbooks. The Texas State Board of Education determines the curriculum for the ENTIRE United States. Why? Because they are the single largest market for textbooks. Sure, Texas isn't the "majority"of the sales, but it is the largest single market so it wins out. Whatever the Texas State Board of Education decides needs to be in the textbooks, the textbook publishers put in their books. Then, the entire rest of the United States is pretty much stuck with that. There are exceptions and it certainly is not a complete control, but for the most part, whatever the Texas State Board of Education decides ends up influencing the curriculum of the entire rest of the country. Ultimately, that ends up being true for most things in publishing, including games. It all comes down to security of investment. It is safer to build a product aimed at the largest market than it is to build a product aimed at a "majority" with a variety of preferences. So, even though the PS3 may be doing better globally, that success is dispersed among many different cultures. Different cultures like different things, and selling to a diverse majority is a lot harder than selling to a relatively uniform minority. The types of games that people like in the United States, and the platform that those games sell on in that market will decide what publishers think and do. And currently, the Xbox 360 is that platform, so the Xbox 360 will continue to be the "winner" in the eyes of the publishers.
It's terribly sad that the Japanese hate anything western. At least we are open about different products![QUOTE="BodyElite"][QUOTE="metalgear-solid"]
It's so sad that Americans plain hate the PS3. I can't see a single legitimate reason why that is. New wave of national pride?!

America is only open because the have to be, Japan can afford to be picky around electronics and such as they have excellent home grown electronics companies, the American car market is mainly American cars as they have American home grown car manufactorers who make cars made for Americans.
Japan don't need less reliable/worse quality electronics.
Americans don't need small cars for their large road systems.
Thank you.
Why is xbox killin ps3.......AdamPA1006kinect says hi.... on all the new slim boxes it says kinect so alot of them bought it before kinect even came out thinking it was already in the box...
[QUOTE="brennan7777"]Not really. That is an entire month of Halo sales to GT's few days in arguably GT's weakest market. Oh lord. GT flopped, it sucks. /discussion It flopped on gamespots system wars forum, it didn't flop in sales which is what this is about. I dont like racing sims or GT5 there is no reason for me to blindly defend it. I am simply saying that saying a games sales are terrible based off of a few days is silly.[QUOTE="walkingdream"]Wow Reach is selling nearly the same amount as GT5....lolBodyElite
i live in US and the electronic store i work at sells sackboy(ps3's icon) plush figures; so far, only about 2 people out of at least 50 managed to recognize sackboy; the rest thinks it's some kind of scarecrow, brown bear doll thing :D this just shows how popular playstation 3 games are in US.NexustrasLol these stories are my favorite. Today I was at Best Buy and I saw someone purchasing a PS3 and nobody purchasing a 360. I guess this means people are buying PS3's and nobody are buying 360s.
i think many people just gave up on waiting for that game.I am a bit surprised GT5 sold so low. It's a good game, but far from great.

[QUOTE="AdamPA1006"]Why is xbox killin ps3.......Ringx55Because the America, doesn't even include Canada numbers is 360 land. We all know this Too bad PS3 still wins World Wide as seen by their financial reports earlier this year. Ya but unfortunately, Sony only reports shipped units as opposed to MS and there is no way to actually know the truth of worldwide sales. NPD gives us a nice picture of how it actually really is though. :D
Omg, somebody who actually understands the markets! I play western games so I could give 2 ****s about how the systems sell in Japan and mainland Europe. I don't play JRPGs/eastern games. You know why Sony first party is pushing so many westernized games next year? To penetrate the UK and American markets. And hey, I love it! Which is why I just bought a PS3 for Uncharted, Killzone, Resistance, and Infamous! To all the people talking about "oh well this isn't worldwide," I would like to point out that it hardly matters that it isn't worldwide.
