Gran Turismo 5 will be in US shops on December 29, according to Amazon, who's already taking pre-orders for the game at $56.99. Please let this be true.
The game is widely expected for release next year, but this raises an eyebrow considering recent comments from series creator Kazunori Yamauchi, who said last month: "We've actually reached a point where we could probably release it any time.".....another source
1. How can a game be delayed if it never had a date set in the first place?
2. No gameplay to show  I suppose that massive demo we've been playing for the last year and a half doesn't count? :lol:EliteKitteh

-The producer has gone on record to say that GT5 could be released any day now. Meaning it's pretty much already finished. They're just waiting on the proper strategic time to release it (ie. releasing your biggest game at the same time as a price drop = more $). If the game is already ready to be released, why would they hold it back until after the lucrative holiday season? They won't. Simple as that. There's no way Sony would intentionally miss out on the most lucrative season to make money.
-GT5 was the only upcoming game in the near future at E3 that did NOT have a release frame. Uncharted 2, God of War III, R&C, MAG, Heavy Rain, etc were all given release frames. GT5 was strangely not given a frame of release at all. Think about it... why wouldnt they tell us? Because it's popular consensus that GT5 will come out when their is a price drop. Hence, giving the release date of GT5 would give away the date of a price drop.
kay?....gran turismo are console selling games. its the most importiant game this year for sony. they have somthign up their sleevs it doesnt take a rocket scientist to see it

If I remember correctly GT4 came out in Japan in the last few days of December as well, and it still sold over a million.

I said all but confirmed. And even then, there is still no specific date.
GT4 Prologue played and looked almost exactly the same as GT4. Why would it be any different this time? And FYI, there were two years between GT4 Prologue's release in Japan and GT4's release in Europe, so there's another one of your arguments that are worthless.
Regardless, the way you said made it sound as if development had barely begun, which absolutely false. An after seeing your comment about GT5P being the best selling PS3 game, I've drawn the conclusion that you are just completely ignorant and not worth arguing with.
GT5 will come out when Sony wants. I doubt Polyphony has much say. They just keep working on it and move it along..
I could see it coming around Christmas. Whats the problem with that? :? It's going to take a few extra months to hit Europe then the states anyway. Japan has no problem releasing games in December. WKC came out Christmas Day. Prologue came out Dec. 13. GT4 came out Dec. 28th. Based on that I would expect a dec release again
And as for the lack of gameplay vids.. How much had we seen about GT PSP, then it made a surprise appearance at e3 with a release days only 4 months after
Price-cut alone for the holiday season is enough for sony but having Uncharted2, GT5 & MAG would surely make old PS3 owners happy..

Let me get this straight, you actually think Sony is holding back the announcement of GT5's release date because of the upcoming PS3 price drop? The same GT5 that is --bar none -- the biggest title that will ever be released on the PS3? The same GT5 that is so popular just mentioning the release date will cause a spike in PS3 sales? The same GT5 that is so popular people like myself bought a PS3 a year ago (or earlier) almost solely because we knew that GT5 was coming out sooner or later? You think they're going to announce a 2009 release date after they announce the PS3's price cut?
If GT5 were coming out in 2009, Sony wouldn't need to bother with a PS3 price cut.

Having a price cut, a new model and a major exclusive at the same time would cause a huge amount of impulse buys. It'd be a brilliant business move. Sony are using GTPSP to launch the PSP Go. I wouldn't be surprised if they were planning something similar with GT5 and the Slim.
Remember, GTPSP was unvieled in June. That's only 4 months before release. If GT5 is unveiled at GamesCon this month, that still leaves 4 months until the rumored December release date.

Maybe I'm grossly overestimating the popularity of the Gran Turismo series (although things like "sales data" and "facts" would suggest otherwise) but like I said, if GT5 were coming out in 2009 Sony (who needs revenue yesterday) wouldn't need to drop the PS3's price (at least not until 2010). Why throw away $100/PS3 on hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of at least partially GT5-related PS3 sales for a couple thousand more "impulse buys"?
The brilliant business move (assuming GT5 is coming out in 2009) would be to release GT5 in August (October at the latest) without a PS3 price-cut and then release the PS3 Slim in early 2010, right after GT5 (since it's finished and could be released any day now, after all) wins god knows how many GOTY awards.
As for GT: PSP, it's a completely different situation. The PSP Go is the launch of Sony's big push for DD on the PSP; the PS3 Slim is the equivalent of the PSP-2000/3000. Not to mention the fact GT: PSP was supposed to be a PSP launch title before going MIA for 4 years.
Of course this is all academic, because there is no way in hell GT5 is coming out this year. If it were, it would have been playable at E3 (again, the "it could be released any day now" thing), and Sony would be too hyping the bejesus out of it to leak all these price-cut rumours.
