... Oh good lord.

I think this gif will do.
Thanks; that pretty much nails it
Right. I'm pretty sure the amount of time they're taking is due to the car models. I hear that PD is going for upwards of 900 cars in GT5, which, at the 120 day rendering speed (of course, I'm pretty sure multiple cars are being worked on at one time) will take them a sizeable period of time to actually accomplish.
The_Game21x
Last time they did that it was just a bit of a failure though. Some of the games have featured some of the most pointless cars in the world.
Then they did things like have both opel and vauxhall - really REALLY pointless
I'll say it again: forget about it."With all of the work his company is putting into the next console GTinstallment, Yamauchi tells us that it hasn't forgotten the long-delayed Gran Turismo 4 Mobilefor PSP. He confirms that the game - originally announced at E3 2004 - is still actively in development, although it isn't planned for release until after GT5. That would be 2011 for those with pen and calendar in hand."
This is troubling. One of the reasons I bought a PSP was for GT mobile. At this point they have already amde a revision to the PSP hardware and launched a new main console since the announcement. At this rate there will be a new generation of PSP before the first titles is launched. That's FRIKKING RIDICULOUS. Sony should be riding their asses about this. The competiton is only getting better.
Here's an idea, forget the goddamn prologues and concentrate on putting out a full game. I really don't need to drive 100 Mitsibishi Eclipses or 75 Nissan Skylines.

The PSP 2 will be here by then. maybe it'll be a PSP2 launch title or something. then again, maybe not. for me, ti's vaporware.
[QUOTE="The_Game21x"][QUOTE="Stonin"][QUOTE="The_Game21x"]Well it's not that simple.
The older race tracks (in this case, from GT4) were built and programmed in an entirely different graphics engine, the one built for the PS2. Naturally, with all of the upgrades Polyphony has made to GT5's graphics engine, it's not as simple as plopping the old track into the new engine. There's additional geometry work to be done, texturing, and other enhancements that need to be made. So in essence, they'd be rebuilding much, if not all of the track from the grund up.
But Rainbow Six is a different story. Rainbow Six Vegas and Vegas 2 use the same graphics engine on the same hardware so it would be a great deal simpler to simply drag and drop from the first Vegas to Vegas 2.

Ok...but the fact that they released GT5P as a saleable game means that for all intents and purposes the engine must be finished. This means they are just adding content in the same way you would making a game sequal with the same engine.
Unless of course they realised it wasn't up to scratch and are having to rebuild it to include damage modelling...in which case they are doing fans a disservice by selling them a half arsed game in installments while they fix problems of their own making.

mabye they should do 1,800 cars and finish in 2015? I mean, why stop at 900? sky's the limit.*sad face*
But how would they add that many cars? I mean, I guess they could add another 200 versions of the same Skyline...
:o
Oh Snap! I totally went there!
My expectations have now risen to a simulator that does the exact same better than real life... so they better not dissapoint me.
Yes, it's supposed to be sig worthy :P ... and yet, this better dam well be the best dam racing simulator of all time.

I know....And that sucks.OH snap!...oh well. GT5 still owns the competition easily.J-Allard360
Funny you should say that...seeing as the game isn't even out yet. :|
I should've 'just wait'ed till the PS3 had a price cut.Oriental_Jams
I definately agree. You should waited for a big price cut because that is out of control to delay 2010 or longer. Almost every big game from sony has either been half done or delayed big time. I want a PS3 but if it is going to be like this. GOW3 is going to take forever to finish and by then we might have some new consoles. ITS OFFICIAL IT IS THE WAITSTATION or DELAYSTATION. The sad part about it is that these are very popular games and would sell systems like hot cakes, especially GT5.
I should've 'just wait'ed till the PS3 had a price cut.Oriental_JamsThat my friend is on point.
Why oh why should I buy now ?
If anything, 2010 sounds like prime time to Jump In @ 149.99 - 199.99 !
A little aside.
FF13 hits 360 six months before PS3 ? Hmmm. ;)

NO game means no competition to Forza. Forza is the best racing game by far now. Also who cares about 900 cars. I will only use about 50 or 70 if that.
This is why the ps3 has such a long life cycle
your going to be waiting for games for atleast 10 years
Gh0st_Of_0nyx
LOL
I glad I got my $40 game then. They'er added damage, if you thought added damage was going to be a over night thing then that you fault.
Anyone who bought a PS3 on day 1 specifically because they want GT5.... :|
I hope there's no one out there like that.
900 cars huh? They might as well go ahead and model every type car ever made... including old Model T's, etc. Then, each year add another year of dev time to model ever type of car that comes out that year... Then, make the release date 2012 on the day the world ends... no wait, you need to model the vehicles that our alien overlords will be driving.
GO FOR BROKE!
What!? 2010? What's the reason for releasing prologue now then, if the final product probably will be so vastly different? Besides 2010 is a long way wait, which means that Microsoft could without a doubt start showing "next-gen" videos which would make GT5 inferior and ultimately loose a huge part of it's fanbase to the next Xbox.
If Microsoft keeps playing their card right they can make things very difficult for Sony.
So... 10 am confirmed? :Pyoshi_64
Yeah...2010 that is. :P
Seriously though, this game had better be perfect if they're making us wait this long to get it.
OH snap!...oh well. GT5 still owns the competition easily.J-Allard360You must really be enjoying the trailers and screenshots

lol, well... maybe I'll give her a look when it comes out. However I'm baffled they released Prolouge so early then... Will there be another Prolouge or will they be able to update this game? I mean.. I feel people who bought this game deserve their 40 bucks... :PI can't understand how anyone has any respect for PD, they're a total joke. They're arrogant, unoriginal, they financially take advantage of their fans and quite clearly are unable to work to any sort of deadline.
Owning a PS3 must be painful at the moment, exclusives are either going multiplat or suffer rediculous delays.
Then I can only presume Polyphony has 5 employees actually working on the game, and the other 495 thinking of ways they can charge for another demo.whocares4peace
But you can always watch GT4TV. Afterall. EVERYONE wants to buy a demo, just to watch YouTube videos in it....
I love how Sony overhypes a non-gaming application as a revolution in gaming...
I just bought me a Wii, spent $500 on top of that, which I could have gone the PS3 way but with all these delays I rather wait for SONY's big price drop maybe in 2010?
I love Forza 2, big fan of GT3 bigger fan of God of War (after part 2 I MUST play 3), but that game is also coming out late '09-'10. So whats the point of buying a PS3 now?
SONY dont fall off too far, MS needs to get checked every once in awhile or they will become like you.
Im sure this will still be a 2009 release...thats not an official statement by any means. More like conversationUptownI'd like to be as sure as you.
