Forza looks great, but I've always loved the GT series and I'm giving Polyphony the benefit of the doubt that they haven't been sitting around playing cards for the last five years or so. Plus, GT5 is sure to have more cars and tracks than Forza. However, GT5 is all boom or bust at this point, where I think Forza is more of a sure thing.
I can see no tangible reason why to choose one over the other because they're both great games so as someone above said i would prob flip a coin to decide for me.
Given how much I enjoyed Forza 2 and how much better Forza 3 seems to be, it's a no brainer for me.

This. I loved Forza 2 so Forza 3 with improved graphics, more cars, improved damage and crashes, an even more sophisticated physics engine, and new tracks sounds too good to be true. Furthermore the people at Turn10 seems to be passionate about their game and that almost always lead to a better designed game. I haven't heard much coming directly from anyone at PD.
Forza 3 since it has a better track record when it comes to scores. The customization in Forza is enough but add in the better physics and bility to flip the cars.
I've been playing GT since the fisrt one come out. but Im gonna give myself a first try for forza 3. indeed this game got so much improvement, I cant wait.
Id have to go with Forza 3 The gameplay, customization, and environments are the basis for this decision. When i play a racing game, i want it to be FUN, not simply cars going around the tracks (weird i know :P ) To me, F3 looks to have all that and more. IMO of course

If I had to choose it'd be Forza 3, but that's mainly because I only own a 360 and also either is just as unlikely because I'm not into sim racers. I much prefer arcade racers.

Nope, you're wrong. Metacritic and Gamerankings says otherwise. The entire series of GT is more critically acclaimed than Forza. Scores of just the last 2 forza games cant beat how much of an impact GT, GT2, and GT3 had on the racing world.

That was before Forza entered the scene. In the era with the 2 games in the market, Forza has scored better than GT. The critics clearly give much more acclaim to Forza moreso than GT. Again, when given both to evaluate, not just when it was only GT.

EDIT: This is not saying that Forza is crap or what not, but GT has been around for a lot longer and was the first one to really pull off the racing simulation. Now if you want to argue as of right now in this time frame if Forza is better at this point, you might have a point, but to say more critically acclaimed I don't know about that, Forza has a couple of more games to go before I think you can claim that.

Sure Forza is rated higher, but throughout the history of the GT series it has accumlated more total critic acclaim. Scores are just numbers, words mean more. Over time more good things have been said about the GT series. That being said, at this rate Forza will beat out the GT's history of fame. As the current gen stands the Forza series is really the only good racing sim as GT5 isnt out yet and GT5P wasnt really a full game. So technically Forza is more critically acclaimed this gen.

You have a good argument there, but I fail to see it with racing games. Why would I want to play GT3 over Forza 2? :? The argument is not about what you would rather play. The argument of which one was more critically acclaimed and you have to give that to GT because it is more known, it has been around a lot longer and it was the first to really pull off the racing simulation. Forza came out after and no doubt is a great game and could (*could is the special word there) eventually surpass GT as far racing simulation games go in the future. As of right now if you are saying which is more crictically acclaimed and more popular GT has the edge.
