Just a minor correction, according to their press release that's the number as of December 6, 2010 -- so it's only 12 days after release.
Europe: 3.56m
North America: 1.25m
Japan: 0.55m
Rest of Asia: 0.16m

(America is the biggest market? Certainly not for Sony.)

Sony's press release, which I linked to in my post...400K is just NPD's US estimates for the first 3 days of sales.
No that's COD Agreed, whatever you say , Gran Turismo is a great sim , even if the graphics/features arent what some people expected, it is an awesome SIM![QUOTE="Salt_The_Fries"]Gran Turismo 5 is like a Michael Bay movie.spookykid143

Those NPD numbers are for 3 days only...Gran Turismo 5 is like a Michael Bay movie.Salt_The_Fries
GT5 has more storyline than a Micheal Bay film as it stands :P
Still good numbers..Shows GT is still a strong franchise for sony regardless.

Gran Turismo 5 is like a Michael Bay movie.Salt_The_FriesI disagree. I would prefer Avatar. Overhyped, hardly has anything new other than its bigger and flashier, but still sold extremely well.
It's a shipment number.
shinrabanshou
It's a sold number. 7 million shipped about. the amount stated sold.
Gran Turismo 5 is like a Michael Bay movie.Salt_The_Fries
But I enjoy Michael Bay movies when I watch them with friends :(
As expected... GT 5 will sell millions. Didn't Prologue sell 4.5 million?

No, it's shipped (sold FROM Sony TO retailers). Publishers have no way of knowing how much retailers sell. That 7 million figure isn't official and never was. It was just thrown out for arguments sake.

No. It's a shipment number. I have first week sell through for France, Italy, the UK, Spain. And an estimate of Germany and Finland LTD.As well as second week sell through for the UK.
Those are some of the largest gaming regions in Europe and they don't come close to even half that figure.
Forza 3 took over a month to ship 1 million  http://www.joystiq.com/2009/12/08/forza-3-sales-surpass-1-million-units-premium-dlc-released/
GT5 ships 5.5 million in less than 2 weeks. That means it's selling roughly 10 times as fast
[QUOTE="racing1750"]Nice, but not surprising. GT is a massive franchise._Matt_Loving your new sig Racing! Thanks man. I'm in the festive spirit :P

Impressive numbers. It's not the Playstation's killer app for nothing.
Can't wait to see cows play the sales > quality angle when comparing it to FM3.
Fair is fair when Lemmings and Sheep say titles like UC2 are sales flops. Hypocrisy knows no fanboy type bounds.Impressive numbers. It's not the Playstation's killer app for nothing.

u guys r really diluded it says shipped. so what does that mean?
that just means the numbers sent to retailers to be sold AND NOT the actuall number sold to customers. you know when most non-Sony(cause it seems only sony uses this type of phrasing) says 2 mil or somthing sold that means sold to CUSTOMERS. these numbers r meaningless

Didn't Uc2 sell something like 3-4 million copies? That's hardly a sales flop.
I think what they were saying was cows don't buy highly rated games like Uc2. Instead, they go bananas over mediocre games like GT5.
Oh of course, the game that has left a legacy of high hitters has only shipped alot of units they are all obviously sitting on shelves collecting dust.u guys r really diluded it says shipped. so what does that mean?

Every company uses shipped to retailers numbers. Those are sales as far as the manufacturers are concerned. You'll pretty much never see Microsoft attempt to estimate sell-through.u guys r really diluded it says shipped. so what does that mean?

Now, independent researchers do often attempt to provide information on numbers sold to consumers, but that is another matter entirely.

You don't have to wait :D
Poor turn 10. They need to make 2 games to sell that much. And by the time they're done making them, GT5 will have sold another 5 million and they'll have to make another 2 Forzas to keep up :(
Oh of course, the game that has left a legacy of high hitters has only shipped alot of units they are all obviously sitting on shelves collecting dust.JynxzorIt's a shipment number.
I don't know why everyone is disputing this.
It doesn't particularly matter anyway, it should sell through the initial shipment by the end of the year without too much difficulty.

Yep, it did sell that much, and despite that I've seen lots of accusations that it is nonetheless a sales flop (silly and stupid as that is).You don't have to wait :D

Oh you.
Let me try this. PD takes 5yrs and $70 million to make a worse racer than Burnout, Shift, Need for Speed, Dirt 2, Grid, and Project Gotham 3 & 4. They really have the magic touch, don't they?:P

one, the budget was $60 million, and two, worse by gamespot scores, I actually enjoy GT5 a LOT more than any of those with exception to Burnout Paradise, where I am enjoying GT5 the same amount.
