Why is there always all this discussion about if its shipped or sold through to consumer in these sales threads??
I will let you in on a little secret its never never ever sold through numbers..
when it's the company telling you numbers: its shipped!! (sold to stores)
when its NPD or any other tracking company: its an estimate!!
It is NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER sold through to consumer.. So stop bickering about it at just take numbers for what they are.
Are you still THAT butthurt about GT5 outselling Halo Reach that fast? What a goddamn 360 fanboy you are. Boohoo, in just 12 days GT5 sold 3 x of what forza 3 did, and in like 12 months. How embarrassing is that for you? Mhmmm your tears pleasure me.Report this post to show just how upset you are about supporting a failure

Oh my god. And you just called another person out for being a fanboy?

http://n4g.com/news/662074/gran-turismo-5-ships-5-52-million-in-12-days
Gran Turismo 5 ships 5.52 million in 12 days
It has been confirmed by Sony Computer Entertainment that Gran Turismo 5 has shipped 5.52 million copiesof Gran Turismo 5 worldwide
So, 1 million sold ?
NPD says 400.000 sales in US so far, which is extremely low

Ain't that same overused argument for both lems and cows?
Anyway i'm not surprised at all, i mean after all its Gran Turismo. :P
Most of it comes from EU, not surprised. I am surprised it's overtaking Reach though, that's crazy. Good for Poly D and Sony, I guess. enterawesomeReally that surprised? This is Gran Turismo we are talking about here! I may not even own a PS3, but I know that in Europe Gran Turismo is pretty much equal to Halo and may even be bigger.
[QUOTE="Grawse"]Sales won't raise the 8.0 score any If true, gt5 is closing in on cod when cod is on 5 platforms nothing to worry about, there will be lots of update and add-onIt will double Forza 3 in sales in no time. That's closing in on Reach already.

where did you get 70 million from though? Also have you tried GT5? It really is a brilliant game
gamecubepad
Just took the average per year for 4yrs.@$60 million and shaved it down to $10 million.
I have tried GT5, and I agree that at it's core, it's a superb racer. I'm not a racing afficianado by any means, but from what I played the driving was every bit as good as FM3. The AI was somewhat suspect, but I had only a few chances to play, so I'm relying on reviews to guage the AI. The lighting and premium cars are second to none, but the 800 ps2 cars, and a number of tracks are lackluster.
I'm just giving some cows a hard time, I can understand why some of the true GT fans are stoked about GT5. It's still a great game.
That's reasonable, but you know when people refer to a budget, it doesn't always mean that is what's been spent so far. If I'm remodeling my basement, I can have a budget of $10,000, and a work time of 3 months. If someone were to ask me what the budget is at the 2 month mark, I'd say "$10,000". You can tell I've watched HGTV! :P I don't remember if Kaz said that's the investment so far (2009) though.

As for the sales, that's good :). GT5 is ensured to be a sales wonder for Sony and millions of fans are more than pleased with the game (including me!). Whatever the final budget may be, it seems that Polyphony and Sony has no problem with recouping and profiting off the investment. Heck, I think Prologue sales covered it .

no it doesn't. 5million shipped means sent to the shops, if the shops still have 80% of their original stock thats only 1million sold to consumers / gamers. of course these figures are just meant to show you the difference between shipped and sold.its still interesting though how when it comes to sales related to PS3 and its games in here many go deep into discussing shipped vs sold bla bla bla..
However when it comes to 360 the numbers out are authomatically passed as sold to gamers not shipped to stores...

thats probably because NPD data is based upon units "sold to consumers" and MS frequently say their numbers are "sold to consumers". Sony are usually the only ones who say "shipped"i still believe figures given by NPD or MS/SONY are either shipped or close assumptions/estimates.. I dont think MS takes out from the total 360 units sold worldwide the ones like myself (and a few others i know) who had to buy a second 360 cause the 1st one died..
So as i said, we can never truly know exactly how much a game sold or the exact install base of a system..
what a shame poly can release any old trash and have it sell that well.
maybe with all the money it makes poly can figure out a way to get the friends invite down to a 10 digit code instead of a 20 digit code.
see, you guys just voted to promote incompetence so congrats on not teaching poly a lesson about taking 5 years to release a game that looks like it is from 2001.

your right, i myself am on my third 360. they dont count the 360's which people trade in for a PS3 or vice-versa. its a daft argument. the best indicator is the charts for software. COD black ops sold more copies in the uk on 360 than PS3, likewise the US. so you can say with some degree of certainty that there are more active 360 gamers than PS3 gamers in those countries. though it obviously depends if any big exclusive titles launched that week too. 360 software consistenly charts higher than PS3 software in the UK. i know a couple of PS3 owners who dont buy the games, one of them has had his for a few years and hasn't played more than a few games on it. He said he got it mainly because his 360 died and the blu-ray drive swung him to the PS3.I'm pretty sure the total worldwide software sales for ps3 were higher than 360, according to MS and Sony's last couple of quarterly reports. Some games sell better on one system, some sell better on the other. Just comparing sales of COD does nothing to prove that one system has a higher install base than another...[QUOTE="_Matt_"]
one, the budget was $60 million, and two, worse by gamespot scores, I actually enjoy GT5 a LOT more than any of those with exception to Burnout Paradise, where I am enjoying GT5 the same amount.
gamecubepad
The budget was around $60 million in Nov. 2009, does that extra year of development come free?
Also, that's worse by metacritic, with GS being the tiebreaker.
I'm pretty sure that $60 mill was already paid for by prologue. ;)Is anyone surprised by this? The Gran Turismo series is like Halo and Call of Duty in its selling power.
It's almost at the point where Yamauchi and pals could sell millions of copies of a glorified demo for $40.
Oh wait...
[QUOTE="Swift_Boss_A"]Woah I confirmed months ago that GT5 will sell 6 million before the end of the year but it's likely t exceed that :o Oh wait! those are shipped numbers, damn you Sony. Everyone knows that GT franchise never sells to consumers, the series doesn't have 60 million sales because it's actually sitting on the shelves, I know! Guys lets get back to bashing the game for its score because you're only embarrassing yourself if you think GT5 wouldn't sell as much seeing as how sequel has been anticipated for 5 years. I guess it's true, new gamers are not familiar with the epicness that is GT.sts106matno-ones denying its not a massive franchise. and if by "new gamers" your pointing the finger at me, you have no idea, i was gaming on the BBC micro, zx spectrum and amiga, possibly while you were in nappies LOL.Dude I didn't even read your posts before I said that :P But shipped or sold to consumers the fact is there is demand that's why such numbers are reported.
Its all opinion but sales are factswell no matter how much it sells...it is still not as good as F3 in terms of gameplay and graphics.

Its more like a Avatar movie, because you can Watch it in 3D!!
Do I get cookie or a quote now?
Ah, good ol' System Wars. PS3 fans taking the front wheel and people mad :P
Im not in the slighest surprised to see GT5 selling amazing in just 12 days. It would have been number 2 on the NPD had it not come out at the end of November though.
I expect it to sell 8 million by years end with Christmast comming up. And lifetime sales selling GT4 numbers. Close to 14 million.
Phenomenal sales Poly.

What do you mean? Did sales just change the review scores of the game?
