ok, so i understand its just a prologue to the upcoming full game but its pretty safe to say most things will remain the same.

I got GT5 free with my PS3, i don't really like racing games but i gave it a go. I have to say i laughed so much when playing. 1st off, all the hype sugested the cars look real. Well, after about half hour of playing i found myself looking out of my window at passing cars. I didn't see any horrible jagged edges on real cars yet on my screen every GT5 car had plenty of them. strange.

Then i played on this one course where i had to start in last place and in 1 lap get into the top 3. Well, i thought this was really hard, i followed the driving line but could only manage 4th. (i'm not too good at racing games.) Then i realised if i didn't bother braking at all and used the barrier to fling my car back onto the track i did much better. Infact i came 1st. Now, dunno if its just me but i'm pretty sure in real life if i hit a metal barrier almost head on at 150mph i wouldn't harmlessly bounce back onto the track.

Now, this isn't an attack on the PS3, far from it, this is an attack on GT5 and racing games in general that claim to play and look almost real. GT5 is not technically inpressive, the courses are bland and seriously lacking texture resolution and AF, the cars look ok but what about some AA? As for being a real driving simulator? LOL at that.

Rant over.

It's a shame damage isn't in, I feel everything else is really good. May pick up Gran Turismo 5: Prologue again when they patch damage in.

The online lobby system sucks though. But the individually detailed interiors for every car I have to say, is pretty darn nice and should be standard.

In Car view = Immersion +10

No damage = Immersion - 100.

forza > GT. it's better in every way it could be better. and we don't pay for meaty demos. although personally PGR > all. it has so much more ways of cornering than the racing line that it is definitely one of the most sweat-breakingly challenging and intense games i have EVER played.

So the game doesn't have damage and it has aliasing issues. I think everyone already knows that.

If you are doing C series races, then the penalty system is turned off for those races. Wait till you get to A and S where just tapping another car or the wall can result in a penalty. Some corners just putting 1 tire into the grass is a penalty. You haven't even begin to tap into the game until you start clearing S ranked races.

As for being a real driving simulator? LOL at that.

Frozzik

Hook up a g25 to your ps3 and tell me it isn't realistic feeling. Gran Turismo was made for the steering wheel, not a controller. Everytime they demo'd the game before release, it was ALWAYS behind a steering wheel. Even the basic driving force pro will extremely enhance the gameplay.

You just lied a whole lot. I don't own Prologue but it's a fact that you cannot drive at top speed and navigate a corner, cushions or no cushions. Forzas lack of a punishment system means that I can use cars as cushions too, and I in fact did. Prologue is still a full game... just like pong or at the opposite end mgs4. Go ahead, just say the usual casual burnout fan's damage requirement to be a simulator. Also GT is the best looking driving game ever so you fail no matter what kind of offence you throw there.

I'm talking car physics here, go outside, get in a car and go drive at 150 mph. Once at that speed go hit a metal barrier almost head on. Lets see if you get a penalty or see if your car and you are totally destroyed. Don't tell me thats realistic. They claim its real so it should act real, false advertising imo lol. Not like i care, i don't like racing games anyway, just wanted to point it out.

the best pgr was either a) pgr 2 or B) the dreamcast one AKA "Metropolis Street Racer"

as for pgr 4 it was basically a graphically improved pgr3 with more cars/cities/game modes... also PGR carreer

First thing's first: the penalty system is BS.

Second, I have a steering wheel (Driving Force Pro), and I must say, drifting in the game is so much fun! You cannot possibly get the Gran Turismo games to play them with a controller! It's kind of pathetic if you ask me (no offence).

But the steering wheel business doesn't change the fact that damage is a must have in a "driving simulator". Why, you ask? Because when you drive in GT3-4-5P, there aren't any REAL consequences. Sure, there is the penalty system which will annoy the hell out of you, but having damage changes it all! Look at Forza 2, every single dent in you car will effect your driving and your driving experience! Say what you like, but damage is crutial when it comes to driving simulators.

I've only tried the demo (may pick up the game eventually but..I'm still happy with Gran Turismo 4) but I've managed to ram a car at 200 MPH at S class headon into another car and... I just spun out and had slight damage to the right wheel.

What do they even need to change? The game is as good as a console racing sim is ever going to get.

Add a career mode that allows you to do more than just race cars around tracks for credits to buy more cars (like making a race-driver who has certain skills and you having to fund a racing team with advertisments, etc), get rid of the damn bumper car physics and put in some AI that make the racing challenging and down to skill, not car power (that and remove B-Spec, the easiest way to win in any game aside from a big button that says "WIN" on it). All I do in GT4 is single-car time trials... I cannot stand the moronic AI. They don't pose any challenge whatsoever and make it less of a "simulator."

Too bad in every single car sim game it does nothing either. Oh boy, your car gets damage in forza! Still doesn't stop you from hitting into a barrier and bouncing straight back onto the track.

Go play some burnout.

Interesting, but I don't think the AI in GT is as bad as forza but those features you mentioned would be pretty awesome. B-Spec I am not sure about, I always thought it was easier to win on my own. But like I said before there isn't a game on consoles that matches the simulator aspect of GT games. Forza only has damage, and everything else is ripped right out of GT, even the interfaces. Still, there's always next generation... Or pc games

There are three levels: Cosmetic, limited, and simulation. The demo had cosmetic or limited. I'm 90% sure it was cosmetic.

[QUOTE="crunchUK"]forza > GT. it's better in every way it could be better. and we don't pay for meaty demos. although personally PGR > all. it has so much more ways of cornering than the racing line that it is definitely one of the most sweat-breakingly challenging and intense games i have EVER played.RazMaTaz-1

ROFL. Forza graphics are total trashbag.

Forza graphics are pretty good actually, what does suck are the camera angles during the replays of the race make the title seem less refined. If there is one thing GT has over Forza is the presentation factor...as for the racing itself GT was a great "simulator" during the PS1 era...not so much these days

Game On....

[QUOTE="foxhound_fox"][QUOTE="leejohnson7"]What do they even need to change? The game is as good as a console racing sim is ever going to get.leejohnson7

Or pc games

you must be kidding! forza's AI has been miles and miles better than GT's as it stands - they actually followed through with the promises that Polyphony made that never happened with GT3 and 4. Forza's AI has cars that will individually get 'pissed' at you within a race, and the drivers actually take you and other cars into account when you drive, ie slamming on your brakes will have them braking and/or trying to get around you instead of plowing blindly into you like GT's has been fond of doing. they were the first to actually try to avoid accidents between the two series. one of the most blatant parts was in one of the mid-high races that had you doing a lot of laps on Laguna Seca with the team oreca viper and some purple NSX in GT4... one of the cars would get a tire off the track on the first lap and spin out off into the dirt around turn 3-4. that same car would then get a tire into the dirt and spin out every single lap for the entire race on the exact same point. that's not AI, that's the car following a precalculated line at all costs.

The only thing GT5 simulates is falling asleep at the wheel. BORING FILTH. GT5 should have tricked out import cars, boobies, and Vin Diesel. Or maybe Vin Diesel with boobies, and give him the ability to TRANSFORM INTO A TRICKED OUT IMPORT CAR. (OMFG)

NO.

You bounce off unharmed, and actually gain signifcant ground on the other racers. It's a smart tactic.

That's weird, when I bump into things going fast, I spin out.I'm think there are different levels of simulation in GT5P, were you playing on the highest simulation level?
