From CVG

"Before we make the leap, though, there are a couple of other things worth pointing out. The first is that each character is rated in a series of skill categories, viewable from the pause screen: Special, Stamina, Shooting, Strength, Stealth, Flying, Driving, Mechanic, Lung Capacity.

Each characters' Special will be different, and unique to them. Franklin, an adrenalin junkie, has the ability to slow down time while driving. (Rockstar didn't expand on this, but it's a fair bet it'll come in handy when you're being pursued by cops and, say, need to take a last-minute, super-sharp corner to lose them.) Trevor, the game's crazy-eyed nutjob, has a frenzy mode, where he's able to do double damage, while taking only half in return. As a bonus, he also has a unique melee attack, yet to be revealed. And, finally, Michael - the career criminal - turns all Max Payne with his own version of bullet time. Special meters drain after use, and recharge slowly in the aftermath - but while activated, they're often the difference between success and failure."

All 3 protagonists have their own house, friends, social life. (No generic actions when switched out of a certain protagonists)
Heists can turn out different depending on the way you plan them (Which is totally up to you)
Money actually play a big role (You can buy an entire marina, if you want to use a helicopter you need to buy/rent a home with helipad)
Sound-score (music specially made for GTA V) to add to the atmosphere
 You can get new tattoos
 Hunting is also an activity
Off-roading is an activity
You can rob ATM's
Lindsay lohan ( like side-missions) Like the one on the new screenshot.
You can pick up hitchhikers which can turn out to be positive or negative
Flying challenges
Multiplayer challenges
Auto Modding confirmed: Los Santos customs (You can also boost performance, brakes like a race game)

Bolded what i liked most.

Looks like they decided to include affordable properties, in the first preview they said there wouldn't be anything like that.

Fans asked for properties since then so...guess R* listen to the fans. :P

archvile_78

I remember R* devs implying that these features were lefted out because of conflicting schedules or something like that.

Was Delaying the game was the best course of action!?

The additions of Sharks :!:

Can't wait to see how that rolls.

Does any of this previews mentions the mechanics of gameplay?

seanmcloughlin

They talked about improvements to combat and an RPG type system is back from San Andreas

If this game was being made by some other dev,I would have been worried, because that's a LOT of content for one game.

But r* is the best dev in the industry by FAR.No one else comes even close.

Kotaku:

As for looks, I'm honestly not sure what to make of the V's graphics. I never played a Grand Theft Auto for graphics, but I appreciated how good GTA IV looked in its day. I popped that game into my Xbox 360 again on Wednesday morning. It doesn't look as good as I remembered it. The GTA V I saw running on PS3 hardware at Rockstar looked better. That GTA V, though, didn't look as good to me as the one we see in the trailers.

I suggested to the Rockstar reps I was talking to that their trailers are captured off of a PC, off of something that's pumping out better graphics. The version I was watching them play might be an older build, they said, but, no, the trailers are captured from PS3/360-standard machinery.

I asked them this again, hours later, to be sure.

Yes, they said. The trailers are, as always, running in the game's graphics engine, mixing gameplay and cutscenes, andtheir phrase, not mineit's current-gen footage. Maybe what they capture for trailers is just staged well. I don't know. Or maybe the graphics will look better and better as the game gets closer to release. GTA V is by no means ugly. It looks quite nice. But what I saw in trailers never looked current-gen to me. What I saw played in front of me did.

I wish Rockstar would say they're making a next-gen version or a PC version, but the company line is that they have no plans to do so. Take that for what you will. I'd still like a GTA V that looks as sharp as the game does in its trailers.

They better make a PC version

Well, I can't be too disappointed considering the majority of the trailers are composed of cutscenes or gameplay at clever camera angles, but this really reaffirms that a PC version has to happen. I'm going to buy it on PS3 day one, but it's clear the full scope of the game is being held back by current-gen consoles.

"Gangland

San Andreas fans look back fondly at the gang wars between the Ballas, Grove Street Families, and Vagos. Though modern day Los Santos is very different from the golden era of street gangs featured in that game, Rockstar has confirmed that the Ballas are still going strong.

When you ride into gang territory, they don't automatically attack you like they used to. The thugs mind their own business unless you antagonize them by drawing a weapon. Their extreme distaste for authority, however, is much more apparent. Whenever the police roll into their neighborhood, the Ballas will open fire on the boys in blue. This can be used to your advantage when you're trying to lose the heat in a chase. Drive into gang territory and they will immediately attack the police, giving you a window to escape."

Here's a summary of all the bits from the previews.

"Features

  • You can buy property; houses, garages and businesses can all be purchased for extra revenue sources.
  • You can customise yourself with haircuts, new clothes, and tattoos
  • Pay N Sprays can also mod cars with paint jobs, new wheels, window tints, grilles, spoilers. Upgrades to suspension, engine and brakes can also be made.
  • Weapons can also be customised with laser sights, scopes, silencers, and high capacity magazines
  • You can pick up hitchikers, do stunt jumps and flying challenges, take part in yoga, golf, tennis or bike races.
  • iFruit, the game's new phone, can be used to snap pictures and upload them to Rockstar's Social Club
  • The phone also has apps. In addition to the camera there is internet, contacts, social media, a calendar, and a replay missions app. There are three more Rockstar hasn't yet revealed.
  • A combat roll has been introduced for moving between cover

Skill Categories:

  • Each character is rated in a series of skill categories: Stamina, Shooting, Strength, Stealth, Flying, Driving, Mechanic, Lung Capacity.
  • Each character has a 'Special': Franklin is an adrenalin junkie and can slow down time while driving; Trevor has a frenzy mode, where he does double damage, takes half damage, and has a unique melee attack; Michael has his own version of bullet time
  • Specials are governed by a meter, it drains after use and recharges slowly
  • Other skill categories are shared and can be improved by completing missions, side missions, activities and more
  • Trevor will always be the best pilot, Franklin will always be the best driver but each can improve their proficiency a little
  • One of the skill categories is stealth, suggesting players will be able to take different approaches to missions

General

  • The character selection wheel is split into four triangles: Franklin, Trevor, Michael, and your multiplayer character
  • Some boats will include gear such as wetsuit, flippers and tanks for diving
  • An underwater ecosystem exits, "the sea is teaming with fish and sharks"
  • Treasures can be found underwater, but NPCs will be looking for them too
  • GTAV rewards exploration, there's no signposting underwater, so you'll have to find the treasure the hard way
  • Dives won't offer massive payoffs, but will "help grease the wheels"
  • Pressing Down on the d-pad will drop the play in and out of multiplayer.
  • There are subtle differences in the way each character moves to reflect their personalities; Michael is slower and deliberate.
  • Rockstar says there will be five times as many pedestrians in GTAV as there were in Grand Theft Auto IV
  • There's a "crazy level of detail": Tourist buses can be boarded for a tour of celebrity homes, film posters are plastered on the walls, men in comedy costumes try to corner you outside the Cathay Theatre, including the Superman-like Impotent Rage and Master Chief riff, Space Ranger.
  • Michael's obsession with classic films translates into in-game set pieces based on real world movies. In the demo the three characters mount a heist very similar to the one from Heat.
  • 'Mini heists' are used to teach the player about preparation. Players must secure vehicles, outfits, masks, the getaway vehicle.
  • These build up to a bigger heist where the execution must be flawless. They'll require the right crew and players will have to decide on the cheap option, which results in less skilled people, or paying more for skilled crew members that will take a larger cut.
  • You can switch between Franklin, Trevor and Michael during a cutscene, manually, or automatically when the AI takes control for you
  • Each character has a job to do, how much you switch yourself in or let the computer do, is entirely up to you
  • If you die the game reloads to the last checkpoint, even if two other characters are alive
  • Although it's up to the player when they switch, dialogue will suggest ideal moments. For example, when Michael and Franklin are being overwhelmed by snipers, Michael might ask for Trevor's help.
  • There is a wider field of vision, and players can run-and-gun
  • There are some restrictions to character switching, such as how you can't abandon a character while you have a Wanted Level. Lose the heat first! The character selection meter will let you know when you can swap out."

According to Rockstar, the world of Grand Theft Auto V is five times bigger than that of Red Dead Redemption. But what does that mean exactly? Well, not a lot--at least not until you see it for yourself. Take one look at the game, though, and it'll hit you. This is a massive landscape full of mountains, rivers, and--in a first for the series--wild animals. In some ways, GTAV feels like a return to the Wild West of Red Dead Redemption. The difference, of course, is that you're not exploring this landscape by horseback. You're cruising around in dune buggies, parachuting from a fighter jet, or just zipping down a mountain trail by bicycle. But no matter your vehicle of choice, the rural countryside of Blaine County looks fantastic. It's easy to see that some players will simply want to get lost exploring. Gamespot

Animal ecosystem from RDR making a return.

The Last oF Us and Bioshock Infinite will have legit serious competition if Rockstar pulls this off.

Some big takeaways:

  • Gameplay: gunplay is apparently more like Max Payne 3 now and you can run and gun fluidly, unlike IV which featured tank controls similar to RE5. Michael even has a bullet time mechanic.
  • You can get haircuts and tattoos!
  • Level of detail is insane, there's an entire underwater ecosystem and you can go into many houses/buildings.
  • You can play your multiplayer character in single-player, if I'm reading that right; you can also switch to multiplayer instantaneously.
  • Player housing complete with additional revenue returns.
  • An RPG-like skill system similar to San Andreas's but more fleshed out with regards to actual gameplay returns. Certain characters are the most skilled at certain things (Trevor is the best pilot, Franklin is the best driver, Michael's best skill hasn't been revealed as far as I know but I'm guessing it's either shooting or jet skiing/boat driving?). Each character has unique abilities (Franklin can slow down time while driving, Michael has bullet time, and Trevor can do double damage for a short period of time).
  • Kotaku mentioned the demo they saw wasn't as good-looking as the trailers. Make of that what you will. They state the game "looks current-gen."

Holy shiznit, what I just got from Gaf

"Missions can be played stealth or action." "You choose a crew from more than just the 3 characters like hackers, lock pickers, etc. Their skills get boosted if they live onto the next mission."GAF

You can aquire your own crew for missions and they get themselves boosted as well.

Also Lockpicking seems to be a new feature.

I think that alone already shows this is going to be more over the top and fun than GTA4.

Very interesting, sounds like MP I will actually play. This may be the biggest new feature in the game, beside the 3 protagonist system.

The FULL summary of GTAV.net is up.

Police Encounters:

  • The classic wanted system will be making a return - with five stars instead of the usual six.
They make the police encounters sound better, too. In this new game, we can still try to escape the circular zone that flashes on the mini-map when cops come after our malcontent protagonist(s). But, this time, we'll be able to try to hide inside that alarm radius, if we'd like. The cops will use a line-of-sight system, so they won't just magically know where you are. If they have a helicopter in the sky, they'll be able to see plenty. And you'll see them use hand signals to communicate what they're doing.
  • Liquor store and ATM robberies is possible.
  • Side missions will be making a return. One would involve Michael in Vinewood Boulevard racing a starlet away from the paparazzi.

probably missed some but i love those police encounters.

Gonna be too funny when the black guy can't swim at all.

I just hope this doesn't suck, gta 4 had a massive amount of good previews as well and that was a total sack of crap.

Pretty horrible looking, will probably run just as bad as it looks too.

Will wait for the non alpha version on PC.

Time to bust out my Korean

It says "Super market" and "maegju" (Beer)

Can't read the one on the left, but I just translated that to feel smart and to show everyone how multi cultured I am :P

Holy mother of Godstar! Just....mindblowing. This is gonna get 10s across the board again, except this time it will actually deserve them. My expectations were already through the roof but this is just....wow. Godstar are so going to knock this game out of the park. Gotta say I really hope this gets a next gen version next year. I'll double dip for it.

One of the skill categories is stealth, suggesting players will be able to take different approaches to missions I like this. One of the biggest flaws of GTA IV was the fact that there's only 1 way to tackle each mission.

[QUOTE="princeofshapeir"]

Honestly that sounds fvcking awesome

seanmcloughlin

[QUOTE="archvile_78"]

Dutch Gameking.tv summarized

He started out as franklin who jumped out of helicopter right at the beginning of the demo
Wild big game (large animals)
 hunters
People fishing
Underwater explorable shipwrecks
 Much bigger variety of pedestrians
RDR like side-missions with random characters (he uses the example of a dirty looking whaled actress)
Trevor is a biker

Bolded what i liked most.

seanmcloughlin

It's an RPG GTA game. And that sounds incredible

Now I"m hyped, it sounds much more fun than GTA IV , not to mention the setting is bigger and better

more ways to do the missions the better, the big problem with gta IV was how repetitive it all became.
