GTA4 a month later...

I have owned all the GTAs and love the series...but this one is meh..

Broken gunplay, broken cover system, horrid AI, online is shaky and super boring(with the exception of free roam), story gets driven straight to **** and is pretty much built on Vice City's story, bad driving physics, NO TANKS?!?!?!?!?!...ahhhhhhhhhhhh

More...the missions are all the same crap repetitive like crazy, moral choices are almost absolutely pointless...dont know what else I missed.

It is another 9.6/10, but when it got a 10 I was expecting something amazing like GTA3/Vice City were.

I just started my new playthrough last night to see where the branching storylines that I did not take go.

Still amazing, and even better in some ways to me because you get to see the people with a different perspective on the 2nd playthrough.

Broken gunplay? This is the most un-broken gunplay of any GTA game. Cover system works fine for me. Online kicks ass. There are so many different games and they are very entertaining. AI is better then any GTA game before it. I dont miss the millitary either because most of the time I play I dont go past two stars.

GTA3 was the last true sequel. Vice, San A, etc... were all just spinoffs of three. This game with its scope, graphics story and gameplay fully deserve its play and far outshines any previous game. Even Three.

Still ****** amazing. Deserves all the peaise it has recieved. People are bashing this game because it's the cool thing to do, not unlike Halo 3, Gears, and eventually MGS 4, Killzone 2, Gears 2, Little Big Planet, Res. 2 etc, etc...El-Visitante

Not really, I dont like it because its the cool thing to do. After I got to 35% the game just felt repetive, and boring. I have no desire to finish it. Alot of people found it boring, just because someone dosent agree with you dosent mean they are making it up.

Great game, but I prefered Vice City and GTA III. I just dont wanna play the game anymore, which is strange as i put hundreds of hours into the others. The multiplayer is a bit of letdown considering how amazing the previews made it seem. I also didnt like the city, it just seemed like almost everywhere was the same place. The attention to detail in this game was incredible though... but I just didnt wanna watch TV and surf the internet... bit silly really.

I still like it. I haven't even completed it yet. Mostly cause I haven't had time to play at all the last couple of weeks.

It's not flawless, but no game is! I think the 10 was well deserved.

I agree for me GTA 4 is 8.5/10

I think the problem is that it's too real

Most of the fun from the last-gen ones was stealing a tank or fighter jet and rampaging around th place, but when they removed it in place of your friends phoning you for every tiny thing! it takes away the main pull for me

but it's still great 9.0 for me

People are predictable on SW. Remember there will allways be contingencies hating something simply because its not on their favorite system. Knowing SW I suspect many motivated by Sheep and Hermit interests. It never fails here. Like two of these guys are legit and they are the ones "counting leaves" so I don't care what they think either.

GTA4 best in the series and very serious GOTY contender.

Me and this game have had a weird relationship so far. I put countless hours into the previous games, and right up until GTA4 came out i still played SA from time to time. Gta4 is incredible, and is one of the most impressive games out today, but for some strange reason i have no motivation to play it. Everytime i turn it on i feel as if i'm forcing myself to play it. I'm not playing the game because i want to, i'm playing the game because i want to want to play the game. Funny thing is; i turn on the game and have so much fun, yet when i turn it off i couldn't care if i ever played the game again :shock:

I've been playing Lost Odyssey over it, and i just started Guitar hero 3 again, so i have no idea when i'll return to GTA again. I've noticed that i'm not the only one that's having these weird feeling towards the game.

From what i've played i'd say a 10 is fairly accurate. It's incredible.

Looking around its hilarious to see how many people are bagging this game. Personally I still think it deservs it's score. This is typical huge game fallout. We went through the same thing with Halo 3. GTA4 is awesome. Still loving it.L1qu1dSword

the only good thing in online is free mode or whatever its called, and the only good thing in freemode is getting in a choppa, flying high and then jumping out the choppa

yeah man, loool dude GTA haters today? you mean everyday ever since it came out. ive been having epic deathmatch battles. i lol at people so confident at running me over until i pull out the rocket launcher at the last second and blasting them. this other guy, i was about to run him over when he blew me up which caused my car to fly foward and crush him against the wall :lol:

perhaps they/we are not all haters. maybe we all do honestly believe that the game is not a 10 and it has limited play time despite the "online-card" (thats what im calling it now :P)

most of these post are not saying its bad at all, just that its not the gamer magnet we thought it would be.

-Like Halo 3, GTA was massively hyped

-Like Halo 3, GTA's graphics are an upgrade over the previos game, but sub-par compared to other game's graphics on the same system that came out earlier.

-Like Halo 3, GTA feels like a slight evolution. San Andreas 2.0.

-Like Halo 3, GTA was wildly overrated. It does nothing different (outside of cell phone and online games that dont have a lot of players), and some things worse (no plane flying, no buying property, some people complain about no working out) but still received a high score based on the merit of the series. Its not the first time this has happened...I dont think Brawl is a 9.5 either.

Its still a great game, but its no 10, not even close, and its definately not the best game to come out in the last ten years.

What really makes me feel confident in GTA4 being the best of the best games :

WHen people rip on gta4 they do one of two things :

They compare it unfavorably to reality ... Suggesting a game can actually compare to reality is high praise

Or they compare it unfavorably to gta 3 SA , if you were to run the two side by side all those things that are missed would look shatty .

You cannot unfavorably compare GTA4 to genre mates crackdown or saints row , it does many things never seen before , it deserved a 10

My main gripe with the game is the repetitve missions. You're either storming a building and gunning down a bunch of enemies, or you're chasing someone halfway around the city. There were a couple of unique missions, but the vast majority fall into one of those two descriptions. I finished it, and clocked over 50 hours total, but it will be a long time before I feel motivated to dive in again.

On so many other levels, this game is fantastic and definetly breaks new ground. As an industry benchmark, the 10's are understandable, but my own personal enjoyment of the game didn't quite measure up to that kind of a score. While not as technically proficient, there are at least a couple of other games I've enjoyed more this gen, with Mass Effect and Ninja Gaiden Sigma being the first to come to mind.
