GW2 doesn't have subscriptions. once you buy it, you own it. as for needing a powerful PC, my friend tried it on a computer with an integrated card and it ran on minimum.I've always wanted to get into MMOs, but my PC situation makes subscriptions (or anything that would require investing a lot of time) hard to swallow. Maybe once I get another computer, I'll try this one out.

I was talking about time devouring games in general. And my PC is plenty powerful [insert "running I'm running Crysis 2 maxed w/ DX11" here], but my PC's in an awkward position so either I can't get to it very often or I can't play games on it. I'd need another computer so that I can have constant access.I've always wanted to get into MMOs, but my PC situation makes subscriptions (or anything that would require investing a lot of time) hard to swallow. from this test i took out 3 things:
1- i really enjoy the sword/dagger combo with the ranger.
2- sylvaris wearing leather don't bother me at all, in fact i think it suits them (first time the studded coat doesn't look fugly on a character if i may say so myself). this is important because the main reason i went with a ranger instead of a warrior was because i couldn't stand sylvaris in chainmail, and it would be forever before i could wear leafy armor.
3- i really, really don't enjoy playing the elementalist. shame, because i'm not fond of the other two light-armored cIasses, and that final asuran cultural armor was my main motivation to play as one.

GW2 is the kind of game you can play without needing to spend 5 hours a day on to enjoy, but if you have trouble just getting to your computer long enough to play a game, then there's little that can be done :P[QUOTE="BrunoBRS"][QUOTE="miriPlays"]

Yeah, the game's optimization just improving. I had everything maxed and ran at 40 FPS. Shame I couldnt play a lot of the stress test though, I got disconnected continiously (though, this was not the game's fault).
What about raids?dramaybaz
There are none. Instanced PvE has a max of 5 players.
It still doesn't make sense -- I can run Crysis on high fine......but I can't run Guild Wars 2 on medium in anything with more than 10 people. I literally checked my FPS in WvWvW when about 10 people were nearby (no fighting) and it was hovering at 2-3 fps. My processor is caked with dust. Think that might be it? Or is the game not optimized well for my set up? :P Not sure if dust affects game FPS issues.......need to clean this **** out.

Dust doesn't hurt your fps, it just makes things a bit warmer, and so long as you're not at the thermal limit, you'll see no performance gain/loss.
Just sounds like typical MMO performance :?, damn annoying that they all look mediocre and perform no where near as good as they should. Hope it's just an resolvable optimization issue.
What hardware do you have exactly?

I have a GTX460 with an old 2.66 GHz duocore processor and a 750 watt powersupply. That's all I know -- I'm not very computer hardware literate. :( It still runs Crysis on high and really demanding stuff pretty well (like 40 fpsish), so it seems odd I can barely run GW2 on low in slightly dense areas.[QUOTE="Inconsistancy"][QUOTE="Lethalhazard"]It still doesn't make sense -- I can run Crysis on high fine......but I can't run Guild Wars 2 on medium in anything with more than 10 people. The game still isn't optimized and still doesn't use all of your GPU. I still noticed only 40% GPU usage in this recent stress test, so the current build we've been playing is still CPU-bound. I expect the release version to be fully optimized so it fully utilizes your GPU. I was getting 40 FPS in some areas like Rata Sum at max settings (without supersampling), which wasn't at all what I should be getting. That's beta for you.So all the new classes they added in Factions/Nightfall aren't included (as of now)..? Good riddance to the Assassin lol. Also hopefully Mesmers aren't completely worthless in PvE this time around...I wish I could play this game! I need to get a new computer :/bobcheeseball
Thieves are in many ways evolved from the assassin.
The engineer has elements from the ritualist.
Mesmers are not worthless in GW1 PvE, at least not anymore. As for mesmers in GW2, they have little in common with the mesmer in GW1. Now they have portals, lasers and illusions.
Making sure you guys know, your name is reserved for you for 24 hours if you delete your character. So for launch, just make a character really quick, delete, then go again.
I will do this since it'll be 3 AM and as soon as I make my characters I will go to sleep.
[QUOTE="princeofshapeir"][QUOTE="BrunoBRS"]warriors can use ranged weapons, rangers are great melee cIasses, thieves are an evolution of the assassin, mesmer is unrecognizable, ele uses all 4 attunements at once this time, etc. BrunoBRSIf I remember correctly every profession in Guild Wars could wield any weapon. technically, yes. in practical terms, it was pointless to not use any weapon except for the ones made for your profession, since you need that weapon's attribute to be able to do damage, and you need that weapon for the skills. longbows were the exception, people used them to lure agro.
Ha, I remember being a ranger and using a hammer because I had NO idea what I was doing as a young gamer. People were like "WTF?" in PvP.
that's one way to make sure you get your names :P your GW1 names will be reserved for you during the entire early opening plus the first day of launch. so you won't have to pull that trick to name your character after your GW1 one.Making sure you guys know, your name is reserved for you for 24 hours if you delete your character. Me and my friend shared GW accounts when we were like in 3rd grade then I moved and he stole it .-.
But he kept my characters..
The name I want is 1 name anyways, the name I had for GW1 was pretty lame. I think it was Undead Tank Brian

With certain builds they are.
For instance, Wastrel's Panic Mesmers are quite effective.
After watching some pvp videos it looks meh. I'll still give GW2 a shot but from a pvp standpoint I hope it's actually better than what I've seen.
i recommend checking the twitch.tv videos they put on their channel, some very high quality PvP.After watching some pvp videos it looks meh. I'll still give GW2 a shot but from a pvp standpoint I hope it's actually better than what I've seen.

Those are some really good PvP videos, so I put them on the second post :)
to be honest, it seems pretty terrible and unbalanced. i think like most, the only reason i bought guild wars is because of the lack of a monthly fee. After watching some pvp videos it looks meh. I'll still give GW2 a shot but from a pvp standpoint I hope it's actually better than what I've seen.

It's damn near impossible to judge a game's 'balance' by videos, they're subject to different levels of ability and a likely misunderstanding of the events onscreen.MMO's tend to be 'horrible' for spectators and ~uncastable, never look good from another's perspective.
