So, what race/class is everyone going with for their main/first character? Charr Warrior for me. I was going to go with Charr Engineer, but it was quite frankly boring and underpowered. Warrior and Guardian were the only two I had fun with of the classes I tried (Engineer, Ranger, Guardian, and Warrior). I didn't really care for the Ranger either.Zero5000X
I planning on going with a human guardian and a charr engineer as my mains.
I still have no idea who i am going to pick as my race/class. Still researching.
I can't wait for this game.

they had some internet issues. this test (which should be up by now) is just an hour long anyway.[QUOTE="Zero5000X"]So, what race/class is everyone going with for their main/first character? I am seriously out of the loop with this game, can anyone give me some quick hands-on gameplay experience in the competitive aspects of this game?
I was a serious WoW arena player 2200+ last year, and recently quit The old republic out of lack of replay value, how does this game measure as far as competitive depth?
they've been warning us of the tests barely a day before they happen, who knows :P took the one hour i was given to locate and go through spekk's laboratory. 25 minutes later, i find it, and 10 minutes and a lot of deaths later, i complete it. definitely a lot of fun.So was this the last one, or should we expect a 30 minute stress test soon?:P Performance has definitely been improve.

they're aiming it at the e-sport crowd. structured PvP (sPvP) makes use of standardized gear, and everyone is at max level with access to all traits and skills. there's hot joinable ones (up to 10v10 i think), and tournaments (teams of 5). game mode is conquest (3 bases, keep it under your team's power to earn points, first to reach 500 points wins). each map has a unique mechanic, like trebuchets or boss mobs that can be killed to grant your team a stat bonus. as far as balance goes, it's very, very balanced as far as i've played. haven't really seen anyone that i'd call "OP", just good players. engineer used to be underpowered, but they've been balancing him. ANet takes balance very seriously, each beta event has seen balance changes between them, and even between stress tests.I am seriously out of the loop with this game, can anyone give me some quick hands-on gameplay experience in the competitive aspects of this game?

So anyone got some nice new screenshots that puts other MMO's to shame? I got one worthy of uploading, the rest aren't too great:
Oh and yes it's a screenshot, I had to back into a dead tree so the camera would go into me and make me transparent to get the picture without my ugly a** ruining it.

We cannot really judge it's depth yet, way too early to judge. But they are aiming it for the E-Sport crowd.
With GW1 it took a long time to discover the effectiveness of certain skills and builds. I am sure with GW2 it will be the same. Going by the competitiveness of GW1 though, I am sure GW2 will be competitive as well.
As for your question. It is closer to WoW than GW1. At least in terms of movement. Game itself is a mix between action and hotkey combat.
Ok, so I'm pretty excited about this game, haven't looked at many videos I want it to be fresh when I play the game.
Is this game likely to be the second coming in mmo terms? I'm reinstalling Rift as I type this as I'm eager to play a mmo again, will gw2 stop me renewing my rift sub or subbing to another mmo? I guess I'm asking to the beta testers, will gw2 make me cancel all my current mmo subscriptions?
Thanks.
Might be the opposite in fact, since GW2 has no subscription you aren't really obligated to play the game to get your money's worth. It's not the second coming but from what we can see the game is going to be popular with most MMO crowds, it's got damn good PvP, damn good "fun stuff" for the casual players and a pretty big world of PvE and dungeon content. Rifts new content looks to be measuring up really really well if the trailer is anything to go by. So no, it's not likely to make you cancel your sub for Rift but depends if you take to the game and actually don't play Rift anymore because of it so maybe you'll stick to Rift because of time invested and friends, or maybe you'll move to GW2 or you could end up living happily with both.Ok, so I'm pretty excited about this game, haven't looked at many videos I want it to be fresh when I play the game.

well it's a level 10 area and my character was level 15, so i was able to take the golems down more easily, despite the downscaling. that, and when i got there a mesmer had killed all but one golem :P

This game wont be the second coming, but it will be fun and may very well be the best mmo I have played in a long while, a huge step up from a genre that has been going downhill for a long while.
As for if it will make you unsub for rift, not really, for 2 reasons

Dont worry it plays nothing like Guild Wars 1 in that department, this is coming from someone who hated guild wars 1 in most aspects, GW2 is awesome in comparison, it actually has that WoW-level polish (yet because its more modern feels even nicer). As far as the soundtrack goes.

Thieves have some stealth skills, but none of them last long and stealth and not all thieves have stealth capabilities.
It is sPvP so every skill and every ability is unlocked, he has the best gear as well so he is never at a disadvantage to anyone statwise because he played less.
I got to play in the stress test yesterday, but I'm having trouble figuring something out (spent too much time in Character creation). What is the primary attack button? 1 or Leftclick or right click? I.e. What is the button to START (or resume) attacking?

your 1 skill is the normal attack, it's by default set to loop on its own, so it's kind of an auto attack. however, you can press it as much as you want, it won't do anything unless you're in range.I got to play in the stress test yesterday, but I'm having trouble figuring something out (spent too much time in Character creation). A bit of excess s key backpedaling there :P that was a fun video to watch though, gave me a good sense of the movement, do you not have stealth yet? or is that not a mechanic for the thief? stealth was just not much of a part of my build. i was more focused on giving condition damage to my allies and myself, thus gimping the enemy team faster. yes, i'm a support thief. and the backpedalling was to use my heal skill, withdraw, which makes me leap back as i heal. it's why i'd snap the camera 180 degrees and start walking backwards sometimes. also keep in mind that thief stealth lasts like 3-4 seconds at most (depending on which skill you used), and when you damage from stealth, stealth is obviously gone, and now you get a 3 second condition that keeps you from re-stealthing for the next 3 seconds. the reason for that is that too many people were coming up with perma-stealth builds, which was never the intention. so ANet could either add that 3 second stealth cooldown, or severely nerf the thief almost everywhere else just to keep stealth at bay. being smart devs, they went with the cooldown.[QUOTE="BrunoBRS"][QUOTE="Dead-Memories"] Interesting, so would you say the game plays more akin to guild wars or more recent mmo's like WoW or TOR? after reading a lot of discussion about the mesmer, i decided to give it another shot, like i did with the guardian. so i spent some time on the build maker and came up with this.
the idea of the build is that the mesmer is the one in charge of dealing the damage, and illusions serve as a defense mechanism, fooling the foe and punishing them for falling for it. i also use a lot of confusion and retaliation to fight back physical damage, and distortion is probably the shatter i'll use the most.
I've been playing LOTR online to try out an MMO and I'm not a fan of hot key combat. I'll keep playing it and maybe it will grow on me. Heil68not sure how LOTRO handles it, but the hotkey combat in GW2, from my experience, is much more friendly and action-based than most MMOs. you have 5 very distinct attacks, one "heal me up" skill, 3 tools and one "special attack". there is no worrying about mana, and you have to move around (and roll out of the way) to stay alive. you won't have to juggle between 50 different skills at once, and you definitely won't want to stand still.
really cool theory regarding the sylvaris, also gives a lot of lore exposition for those that want to know more.BrunoBRSWow reading some of the comments are interesting, I like that the Pale Tree maybe caused the dragons to awaken and the tree created the Sylvari as a way of bolstering Tyria's defenses. I've always wondered how could some dude and his mate walk into a cave and there lies a seed, he just so happens to plant it and it becomes possibly the largest plant in the world and unquestionably the most important and powerful of them. Where did the seed come from to begin with? I hope we someday find out because right now I'm far more interested in this games lore than WoW (and i really like WoW's lore).
