Guild Wars II sells over 3.5 million *Beats TLOU*

Guild Wars II has now sold over 3.5 million copies, developer ArenaNet announced today on the game's first anniversary of release in August 2012.

That beats 3.4M of The Last Of Us :P

Last time I tried guild wars 2, it seemed pretty dead and barren.  Like next to nobody in the newb zones.    Only 1 year out and about to kick the bucket.

True but i'm willing to bet GW2 has grossed far more than TLOU ever will.  The game has many microtransactions.

Also, console games have a shorter lifespan.  If they don't sell millions in a few months then they likely never will (second hand market ensures this for a game like TLOU).

Excellent game deserves excellent sales. Hopefully they'll go back on their statement about not making paid expansions though :(. They could definitely put out expansions as strong as Factions or Nightfall were for GW1, and I'd buy and play the hell out of them just like the original release.

they are different types of games, you cant compare a mmo with a survival game, also maintaining gw 2 has high cost, servers and content wise. Both are great games, but the point that tc is making of comparing a 3 month game with a 1 year game is just plain dumb.

So it released august of 2012. Last of us released in june 2013. So it only took it over a year to beat a game that has only been out 3 months. ;)

And yeah it beat it, by less than half a million.

GW2 is a game we should all play, its fun, the animations are cool, the world is well designed, but its gets really old really fast once you find out there is nothing to seperate you from others. You are just another cog in the wheel, and what makes MMO's fun is what seperates me from someones mom whos playing. There is no gear and or title that tells everyone around that im better than them...its all just the same. Also the lack of a basic ass dungeon finder in 2013 is pathetic in terms of development, there really is no excuse for that, it leads to hours of trying to find a group through chat which feels like im playing a game made in the 90's, just no excuse.
