Guitar Hero 2 --- The most overrated game of all time?

It's $90...yeah I know it comes with an ahem 'guitar'...but I don't see the point of this game. People who have never taken guitar lessons aren't going to suddenly become guitar masters after playing it. And when I see people playing it at the display case at my electronics store, I just LOL @ how ridiculous they look. I even overheard one guy say to his friend who was watching him....'Dude, with enough practice on this, I'm going to be friggen (he used the real F word) amazing with the real thing and chicks will love me.' I think this game would get old really fast. Listening to the same cover song over and over again just to get better with the 'guitar'. I'm sure I'll never ever get tired of hearing the same tunes over and over again :roll: Wow, I can press the corresponding buttons to match the notes needed...hmmm...sounds a lot like another game...what game could that be....hmmm...could it be Dance Dance Revolution? Yep, that's it. This is the 'lazy' man's new Dance Dance Revolution...without nearly as much exercise. Brain Age for DS got bashed from people because it wasn't considered a 'real' game. It is a game teaches math skills and stuff and actually can help you improve those skills. Guitar Hero 2, on the other hand, doesn't teach you how to play a real guitar...and it never gets bashed. Interesting. 'But but but, it teaches you rhythm AvidGamer!' Yeah, of course I'll find the rhythm of a song if I have to play it 500 times...I'm sure I'm in the minority on this....because I've NEVER SEEN ONE THREAD that bashes this game. So, I'm fully expecting to get a majority of replies that disagree with me (as usual).

You can shoot an AK at a guy in real life or shoot an AK at a guy in a video game. One just happens to be less expensive and fun (and less likely to get you in jail).

Like people have said, try it. It sounds like you never have, which is a problem. The fact is is that it's just an amazingly fun game. It's fun to play with others or alone. Even after owning the first for over a year and the second since PS2 release, I'm still playing them several times a week, because they're just fun. The songs kick ass, and there's always room for improvement. This game has introduced me to a lot of new bands and music that I am loving. It also got me to pick up a real guitar (not so hot at the moment, though). If someone thinks they're going to be great at real guitar by playing this, they're dead wrong. But the fact is is that the game has a solid song list, the awesome guitar peripheral (which really makes it what it is), and all of the little things in presentation and such in the game. There's not much to not like, unless you don't like rock music. Or guitar.

i play real guitar and guitar hero is a far cry from the real thing. But it's tons of fun especially on multiplayer

Hell no! Guitars Hero was a bit better but GH2 was still kick ass.

I was expecting an intellegent post from AvidGamer on why Guitar Hero was so much than Guitar Hero 2.......but I just see him whining aobut the entire series altogether.

Guitar Hero rocks! Guitar Hero 2 is overrated. Full of craptastic tracks and very little change in formula. Everytime my friends play Freebird, I go internally berserk. 9 f***** minutes of generic strumming and rock.

Great party game, not so great single player. I play guitar anyway, which is much harder in reality. The simple fact that it only uses 5 fret buttons and no particular way to pick different strings just makes it feel weird, especially when your playing a Black Label Society solo at the top of the guitar with about 4 buttons.
