Had an interesting conversation at my local gamestop about 360.

so he asks if i want to purchase a warranty on the game. and i ask why would i need a warranty for the game and who actually buys these warrantys. he says the majority of ppl who get this warranty are 360 owners because the 360 scratches game discs so they actually need it most of the time. then i ask him about ps3 and he says barely anyone ever actually gets this warranty. looks like local game stores are making a little extra something due to microsofts failures.

My 360 hasn't ever scratched a game. Am I just lucky? The warranty isn't just for the system scratching it, but also wear and tear etc. Blu-Ray discs are pretty hardy.

Interesting....although not a single one of my discs have been scratched. There's my anecdotal piece of info.

BTW, How's that gamertag coming along?

The 360 only scratches disks if you tip the console while playing. Why would you do that anyway?

I remember about a year ago at GS there was a guy about 40 or so that beat the crap out of the store guy who was in his mid 20's because they wouldn't take back his RROD 360 after15 days of purchase. The guy got mad because they told him oh well you should have gottn the extended warranty. Yeah it was pretty wild and stuff was gettn knocked all over, I'll never forget it....Thanks 360 for the memory.

lol it is true that bluray are less likely to scratch, but that's more of a throw the disk on the floor and skate on it type of moment. i do believe early 360 could scratch disk but that's when you decided to kick over the console, i had one disk scratch... i never kicked it over again.

I have never heard of this, and I follow game news just as much as anyone else here. Yet in your statement you say "ppl who get this warranty are 360 owners because the 360 scratches game discs so they actually need it most of the time". Your spreading lies. If this was really a problem, we would hear an uproar about this. Plus, I have bought 360 games at gamestop, and they never said anything to me about a game warranty.

Oh but it does. My cousin has a 360 and his NFS Undercover has a huge almost perfect circular scratch around the disk. Now, unless he took a key or something and made that circle, then the 360 actually does scratch games, maybe not all 360's though.

If you're dumb enough to shake your console like a ******* maraca when it has a disk in you deserve to get it scratched.

yeah i've heard of that problem, mainly around launch time, but i'm sure it's to do with moving the console with a disk in the drive.

If gamestop did that, they would ask people everytime they bought a 360 game .... They ask me to reserve and sign-up every chance they get; why wouldn't they ask about a warranty ... I call bs

I am more shocked you were actually able to hold a decent conversation with one of the Gamestop thugs. I am suprised they were not jamming preorders and BS subscriptions down your throat the whole time. I also love when they push their system agenda on you as well, "oh man I am getting the better version for 360" I am always like "I care cashier?" ring it up and shut your noise hole.

Wait, I'm someone else, and it's never happened to me either. Nor has it happened to anyone I know who owns a 360. The RROD for sure, I know lots of people who have been hit by that (one guy 4 times), but never the disc scratching. This is not to say that it is a myth, I'm sure it's happened, but somehow I don't see legions of people buying this insurance because they've all been hit by it. More likely the majority are moms and dads being suckered into it by salesmen.

Actually, my gamestop offers the same thing, and are always quick to remind me that the Xbox 360 discs will get that little ring around them occasionally.

I had an older Xbox 360 I purchased about 2 years ago and it scratched my GH: Metallica game without the system ever moving. It sucks cuz now there's 3 songs I can't play on the game and I tried buffing it and everything and nothing works :( I almost gave up on the system after that but I bought a new Elite recently so I'm going to pray that nothing happens to any of my games else I'll just give up.

That's funny. Here in NYC I asked that question about a year ago when buying Oblivion. The clerk told me NOBODY buys the software warranty. Nobody. This sounds like a fanboy thread.

I wouldn't be supprised, the 360 can scratch your disc even WITHOUT touching it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlQYkaXv8RU Where as Blu-Ray is pretty much scratch proof unless you set out to scratch it in the first place http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5jEbZt6AIQ

Some games do scratch in the 360 if it is moved while the game in it but I Don't see why anyone would be so stupid as to move their console while playing a game.

Interesting conversation indeed. Maybe more 360 games there get sold so they offer the warranty to get more money. :P Also if you open your new game and read inside the manual, it has a certain time for a warranty. GameStop probably just want to make an extra few bucks as usual.

My buddy had his 360 upright and it scratched his need for speed, i used my game doctor on it for him and everything was fine untill itred ringed. But this does HAPPEN , dont believe me? Put the words ''360'' scratches disc into google and see how many results pop up.

it does happen, not as frequently as the RROD or anything but it DEFINATELY does happen. And im suprised alot of you are acting like youve never heard of it, but like i said google it , theres not only several topics but VIDEOS.
