Half Life 2 is a really really good FPS game.

Ok, I got The Orange Box for 360 few days ago and started to play Half Life 2, and I can't believe how good this game is. Unlike other shooter where you don't give a crap about the enemies, because you know they are weaker than you. But in Half Life 2 it actually made you feel like you have to hide away from the stronger enemies, and try to survive. Who else played this game and agrees with me? For the ppl who haven't play this game, BUY IT!!! It'll possibly change the way you look at First Person Shooters.

IMO Half-Life 2 is the best GAME since Ocarina of Time, and easiky the best FPS ever.

To me, Half-Life 2 is probably the greatest sequel ever to a game.

Half life 2 is indeed an amazing game. Amazing story, physics, environments etc.

Only I have one criticism, which is that they couldn't keep the gameplay fresh. What I mean by that is that the game did rely on new enemies and new guns to defeat them to keep it fresh. Then in the end you just ended up with such a strong weapon that it kinda ended as a game because it was too easy, and those last minutes were just great for the finishing of the story.

And that's actually the thing that halo did so great. You met most enemies and got all weapons early on, and the fun was in combining weapons and combining enemies to set challenges for you.

I'm not saying that some game is better than half life 2 though. It was an amazing experience.

The opening was so awesome, the whole escape sequence and whatnot. But, pardon the pun, it lost steam very quickly and by the time I got to ravenhome or ravenwood I was completely bored and went back to Halo 3 MP.

It's okay.

To me, Half-Life 2 is probably the greatest sequel ever to a game.

HL2 is an amazing acheivment in the FPS genre. Now only if Valve was concerned with making episode 3

ur right, episode one and two were more challenging.....but how was the a.i. "godlike" when hl1 had better a.i....as did halo ce?

One of my favorite linearshooters. Still, it's not without its problems.From what I remember the loading system could have been better; the vehicle sections while good, were a bit too many imo(I found their use to be far better in episode 2). I also found the pace of the game to have its bumps from time to time. Didn't find the story to be anything incredible really--yes I'm interested in G-man, but when you have an entire series riding on that mistery that hopefully won't reach that classic stage--this sucks complete bollocks-- when it's revealed, you might have a problem. If it is even revealed in the first place sinceValve may actually pull on us the old classic of raising more questions instead of answering them... hopefully they won't be that cheap, but we'll see.

With my opinion of the background story aside, the presentation of it is very impressive. From the animations to the acting and a very decent cast of characters that actually ooze life, instead of the normal robots you usually find in games in this day and age, to impressive graphics, solid shooter mechanics(though far from the best)with the gravity gun and the pheromone pod as being my personal favorites and you have a single player experience that definitely holds its own.

HL blew me away more when it was released back in the day but I agree that HL2 was and is amazing. I'm sad tho that they are making these episodes for it since I would have prefered if they just made HL3 with a new engine that would make Crysis look like last gen. Hopefully some day.

Half-Life 2 is without a doubt ONE of the best FPS games but the first still outshines it I think. It simply did more for gaming and moved a genre that has had few changes forward not to mention the gunplay isn't a bit subpar considering the engine is based off of the Quake 2 one (Goldsource that is).

HL2 is the thinking mas shooter, those who didn't enjoy it or found it boring were probably just used to the pacing of a game that didn't just throw enimies at you every 1/2 second, not all shooting games should have you firing ALL the time.

This is where many modern games like Killzone 2 and Halo3 miss out IMO, sure it's frantic but you just get fatigue very fast and grow numb to the action. The best story driven shooters (and i must say most of them did start out on the PC) Have big elements of exploration and muted tension (see shadow of Chernobyl, my favourite FPS since HL2).

People who are unable to take relish in figuring out a puzzle or soaking in the atmosphere are players i feel a little sorry for.

Turtle Rock is doing L4D2. Valve is more than likely hard at work on episode 3.
