Do you really think valve would make it look so obvious like this? surely they'd announce it officially or have a huge build up of clues ect.

Could be a new iteration of source. Like how unreal engine gets new version all the time.

No, just no.
Half Life 3 needs to be a stellar game.
Why would you doubt that? Engines come and go constantly and the Source engine is one of the most-dated currently in use, only outdone by the Quake 3 engine (looking at you, Activision).
"Wanting this generation to end" silly statement, and wanting HL3 to be "cutting edge graphically" does give weight that your wants are misguided. Give me better level design, and better AI--don't give a f*ck if the game doesn't look like the Crysis of its time. This generations limits have been reached quite some time ago. Half Life 3 is the perfect title to make thet step into the new generation.[QUOTE="SovietsUnited"]
I'm saying that it's time to MOVE ON. The new engine offers new possibilities, both gameplay-wise and graphically. But saying I want a new engine makes me a graphics whore, doesn't it ?
Stevo_the_gamer
I know that my expectations are unreal, but this is Half Life after all. They can make it possible.
highly doubtful theyll build whole new engine from scratch even if its a nextgen console game[QUOTE="Cranler"][QUOTE="SovietsUnited"]

most engines are simply upgraded versions of previous engines. Many devs wont admit this. Even bethesda tried to pass off the engine skyrim uses as an entirely new engineLets be honest guys, if they don't use a new Engine or upgrade it to the point its called Source 2.0, people will QQ to no end.
Source is from 2004, Call of Duty's engine is from 2005 and EVERYONE QQ's about it constantly. Maybe its just BF fanboys trying to talk about how awesome Frostbite 2.0 is, but there are legitimate complaints towards the aging engine.
Source is fine I think with some upgrading, and is probably the most optimized PC engine right now, but if they want to upgrade and improve HL3 significantly, a new Engine or highly upgraded one should do the trick.
cod is the same engine all along. Cod came out in 2003. Based off the quake 3 engine from 1999. I think source has been upgraded more than frostbite btwLets be honest guys, if they don't use a new Engine or upgrade it to the point its called Source 2.0, people will QQ to no end.

Some of you make me laugh, asking for new engine, half of you dont even know what difference a new engine woulkd ultimately mean. A new engine would visually still involve, geometry (triangles), displaying various textures, mainly a diffuse, specular, normal and alpha map, with some dynamic lights and the majority being light maps baked into each asset. Finallly there would be some AA and a few post proccessing features. That is easentially the old source engine, same as the Unreal engine, same as CryEngine 3.
The difference would only be in optimisation and physics, both of which could be added to existing engines. The main difference an engine woulkd make is the workflow by which games artists get games assets from 3ds max/maya/xsi etc into the game. Epic don't launch a new engine each time they bring out a game, they update the previous engine but update a few features.
EVERYONE!
Alright, heres another theory. The picture (different one each day) for the sale on 11/23/11 was this , and if you see theres a half life symbol on the left, 3 presents and santa with two fingers up. My theory is that HL3 will be announced...tomorrow. The website might just be further proof.
[QUOTE="Mozelleple112"]Source is awesome, who cares if it's not on a new engine? Portal 2 looked fantastic.Half Life 3 better NOT be on Source engine. I'm expecting a brand new mindblowingly awesome engine.

You obviously didn't read the whole thread didja, fella? Someone already beat you to it.EVERYONE!

And if Half-Life 3 were on the Source it would most likely still be a "stellar game". The engine a game runs on doesn't mean a damn thing
Agreed, for the most part. Like if its an upgraded source game, it's going to suddenly not play well, writing will suck, presentation wiill suck? I think some gamers set up reasons to dislike some games before they even come out..

Alright I'm guessing no one noticed this but the names on the stockings are Gordon, Alyx and Dog. Also, it's on page 3. Stretching it but I believe

To be honest, despite Source being awesome, I think HL3 will introduce a new engine. Each Half Life has been a new engine so far (main series anyway) so I think the same could be for Half Life 3

each half life? Theirs only been 2. The current enginecould be updated as much as a new engine. Compare unreal from 98 to the samaritan demoOkay, so I just discovered something interesting. The Half-life 3 image on black-aperture.com links to www.half-life3.com, which redirects to the orange box. WHOIS information for www.half-life3.com: Registrant: Valve Corporation ATTN HALF-LIFE3.COM care of Network Solutions PO Box 459 Drums, PA. US 18222 now, WHOIS info for black-aperture.com: Registrant: Hassen, David ATTN BLACK-APERTURE.COM care of Network Solutions PO Box 459 Drums, PA. US 18222 Very interesting. Could be legitimate. Either way, it's curious the contact address is the same, unless they happened to use the same exact registrar contact. Oh, and for what it's worth, if you take an anagram of David Hassen, one of the results is Dad Vanishes. Kind of funny, considering what happens to Eli Vance at the end of episode 2.ralthiel1983
That is kind of weird. but it feels a bit tacky and crap to be a secret to HL3 TBH. Valve would really go all out for an announcement for that. Not a crummy weird website that snows half life symbols (Real name of them is not in memory right now) :P
[QUOTE="seanmcloughlin"][QUOTE="BrunoBRS"]it's also snowing lambdas.BrunoBRS
That's the word lol It completely slipped my mind :P
*looks at time* for the love of god man, isn't it like 6:20am for you? do you even plan on sleeping today? He's too excited for christmas! :P
