I had the exact same problem... Only game I ever felt sea sick playing
Did you try making the FOV wider? It's quite narrow by default.

Oh I don't think so. But then againI could spice things up with things like:

Yep, that sounds incredibly boring to me. Doesn't sound like it's well designed if you can only appreciate it by imagining what random machines did in the past. I'm playing Resistance atm (brilliant game actually), I suppose I can stare at the walls and imagine what they looked like 20 years ago.I disagree completely. HL2 is the greatest game ever made. The story is amazing - just take a look on the Steampowered forums and you will see HUNDREDS of discussions about the story. They have found a perfect balance of giving you information and keeping you guessing.
The characters are some of the most lively and interesting in any video game. I really have no idea how you thought they were simply "questgivers" when the information they provide about the story, the wonderful writing, and great voice acting make them so memorable and important.
I think what we have here is a case of CODitis. You can't pay attention for more than a few minutes at a time and call the game boring because you aren't patient (really, the game only takes about 10-12 hours to beat and there weren't any parts that didn't provide some kind information towards the story if you actually paid attention, it isn't like your grinding for hours and hours and hours). If you just want to look at the pretty colors on your TV and see big explosions then play most other FPS games. HL obviously isn't for you. The reason you think the game is "dull" is because you aren't THINKING about it, you are PLAYING it as if it were any other game. Instead of going into a room and just viewing it as a room you need to look at the machines and parts scattered around and consider what they were used for before you came. If you just run by everything without thinking about it then yeah, it will be dull, but if you actually paid attention you might realize how great the setting and story are.
Also, the gameplay is great even now. I play through it a couple times every year.
hoola
I definitely agree with the op on this, this is a linear shooter with frustrating puzzles, mediocre gameplay and not that many interesting characters. But I guess we're judging it by current standards, that's why it seems to suck. Games have come a long way in these 7 years.
I'm a big Halo Fan but you guys are crazy calling Half Life 2 *Just Okay*
when it came out in 2004 it was amazing and blew Halo 2 or any other shooter out of the water.
also the spaceships and vehicles graphics were horrible when the game came out
basically there were other games like halo etc where the ai was better than half-life 2's and also the vehicles looked better in halo
so valve is no excuse for a game that looked like crap an has no excuse for the poor ai in half-life 2

awdrifter
Why did you bring back a stupid and obviously wrong troll topic from two weeks ago to say this?
Even if he isn't an alt, this is dumb and I demand compensation.
I played all the HL-games for the first time last year.
I enjoyed all of them, though I found HL1 to be a bit boring.

You must sure hate HL2 digging up this old thread just to say something stupid like that
good way to get a topic with a lot of replies: talk bad about one of the greatest technical achievements in gaming history.
i guess Star Wars is a bad movie now when you watch the originals too?
I didn't like HL2 either. It took me almost a year to beat it just because I couldn't bring myself to play it for more than 20 minutes at a time because it was so boring.
My hats off to the programmers though for making a game that would run like silk on a 2004 budget PC with a $50 graphics card. More programmers should optimise their engine using source as a standard/
