I'd rather play Halo CE or Counterstrike 1.3, then Source or Halo 3.
And not because of nostalgia, it's because they're better.

If you weren't around during the Halo 1 era (2001) then you missed out. Sure you have Halo 3, but Halo 1 was some of the best gaming experiences to be had.
It goes Counterstrike 1.3, Halo 1, Timesplitters, Goldeneye, UT99, Quake 3
Best FPS's in order.
lmfao what a silly thread this is. The title declares that Halo is greater than EVERYTHING, but then you so casually list CS 1.3 as a better game than Halo. LOL! Talk about contradictions![QUOTE="runker"]lmfao what a silly thread this is. The title declares that Halo is greater than EVERYTHING, but then you so casually list CS 1.3 as a better game than Halo. cs 1.3 was a mod, not a game. cs didn't become a game until 1.6
[QUOTE="SpruceCaboose"][QUOTE="masterflame10"]Halo 3 just hit 1 billion games played. I would say its been popular. ;) So what? Counterstrike/Tf2/cod2/cod4 and so on for pc could say the same thing. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo........................ Only CS, and CoD 4 if you add all systems.Funny how Halo's suddenly becoming more popular after Killzone 2 comes out.

I'm sure BF2 would be up there.
I'll admit... Halo 1 was an incredible and groundbreaking game. Everything from the music, to the cutscenes, to the coop was ahead of its time. Halo 2 and 3 though... what a waste.
Haha? I find that insulting, I played a boatload of FPS games on PC and other platforms prior to Halo: CE even being announced. That didn't stop it from being my favourite FPS to date.I liked many other shooters more then halo. I could see how people could come to that conclusion if they only had a x-box though.

Hard to even put your finger on why Halo CE owned so hard, but it just did. Something about the feel of the controls felt heavier and more solid than Halo2 and 3. Something about the guns felt more balanced and somehow the AI just seemed smarter, not to mentionthe open battlefileds in the SP somehow felt like onlineMultiplayer. Best fps of all time imo.
halo 2/3 you can see ur feet, the original halo you couldnt, halo 2/3 has no falling damage while halo 1 does.
Lol, if it wasn't obvious before...now it is. Welcome back.If you weren't around during the Halo 1 era (2001) then you missed out. Sure you have Halo 3, but Halo 1 was some of the best gaming experiences to be had.

I disagree, and evidently so do you, since you put CS 1.3 in front of Halo CE. think CS is better.I was there anticipating its release. Hell I was hyped for it, for a couple of years after reading much about it (and how its open world, procedually generated enviroments, and guerrilla warfare comabt was going to be one of the biggest revolutions in the genre). Heck I was going to buy an Xbox on release for it. And well, after playing it for hours at a friends on release - I figured, it was damn good, but just not that. I guess playing all those other shooters also made an impact on my opinion of it. A great shooter, a very notable title of the genre, but hardly the best out there.skrat_01I played Halo CE expecting nothing at all actually. I never heard about it. I bought the Xbox bundled with Midtown Madness 3 and Halo CE and played the crap out of MM3 before even touching Halo. Oh how wrong I was. As it tuned out, I liked Halo ALOT more lol. I think I beat the campaign about 10 times on Legendary without getting old (in co-op). Lot's of Lan games too.

Yeah I was reading about it a long while before release, when it went through the stages of moving from RTS to open world TPS - after its release though I played the hell out of it... come to think of it I still play it coop (Assault on the Control Room or Silent Cartographer) with friends; and of course many many many hours playing it over system link (luckily my neighbours house had two large TVs nearby - making it a whole lot easier, and more frequent). Playing things like 'Warhog / carmageddon - no guns' was always a blast.
Good times.
I have alot of great memories with parties and Halo CE :D. But to say it's > than everything is definately an overstatement.
Compared to Half-Life, Halo 1 is a mediocre game... Finished Halo 1 last week and it can't be compared to HL1!MKLOL
Lets hope you are not talking about the PS2 version of Half Life

I think peoples expectations were too high or they were spoiled with other shooters.Good times.

The game just blew me away when I first played it simply because I wasn't expecting anything at all.I clocked 1000 hours in the game easily.
I never had so much fun with a shooter before (Though UT comes close). That's just me though, I can certaintly see why it didn't wow people at the time. It's an excellent shooter imo, and well worthy of the scores it got,but it'snot the holy grail.
