[QUOTE="reaperstoll"][QUOTE="Igwababa"] Well it has to be taken in to context, Mario has been around longer than some people on this forum and has tons of games out. Even at relatively low sales they could have had millions of copies sold. I ****fy the a title like Halo huge because of its sales per title, 2 titles and over 14 million is very good. Also since its exclusive it really cuts into sales as some people love Halo but only own a PS2 and cant afford to get a xbox (college students, kids, etc.). I still think GTA and Halo is the biggest franchises out there but the competition is not far behind with games like Gears selling millions of copies.
The Size of a franchise should be a measure of context of availability of system, number of titles, and copies sold.

Super Mario Bros 3 sold more copies than Halo and Halo 2 put together, i think its a bigger franchise even if it is "kiddy".
Im not saying that Mario is for kids or anything only that the xbox sold what 20-25 million which is not alot at all, Halo did amazing with such a limited userbase. Mario is defniantly for me the most succesfull franchise, with pokemon coming in second because of the way it is diminishing slowly but surely. However for a relatively new IP Halo has had break away succes and has been able to build an entire community so that when a Halo game comes out everyone knows it. Thats what should be considered, there is more to a great franchise than sales. Starcraft is one example of this, it is still a very huge and popular franchise however it doesnt have the tens of millions of copies sold.
The kiddy comment was directed at TC who said Mario doesn't count because its kiddy or something like that. I agree that Halo has done well for itself based off its limitations, but it still doesn't come close to many franchises, saying it is one of the biggest is pretty ridiculous.
