Where do they get their numbers? VGChartz uses Media Create figures, generally what people use to get Japanese weekly sales figures. According to the Media Create figures, Halo 3 is below Pokemon and FF (both 3 weeks old).

Also Slimline PSP and FF: CC helped push 580k PSP console sales in 3 weeks over there.

Ehhh, the Halo sales numbers really aren't that big of a deal. Here's the 3 really interesting things that this sales chart shows.

1. No Wii games in the top 10.

2. 3 PSP games and 1 PS3 game in the top 10 (nice week Sony)

3. Core Crisis sales dropped to 1/10th of what they were on the first week. So either every FF fan got the game already, or word of mouth about the quality of the game is getting out now.

Everyone on neogaf who imported this game said it was awesome, and that it's the handheld GOTY. I can't wait for it to be released here.

The early reviews I've seen have been markedly different. I'll wait for official reviews, but I have a feeling it's not nearly GOTY quality for the PSP, let alone all handhelds.

What reviews? Everyone who imported this game said it was amazing, I've yet to see one negative comment from someone who played it.

Look no further than IGN. One of their writers recently wrote his thoughts on Core Crisis and Crystal Chronicles DS. In a nutshell he said that Core Crisis was basically designed to see how many times you could press the X button.

Well, here are some of the impressions from neogaf:

"Pretty much the best game on the PSP, hands down. Definitely one of the most engrossing and enjoyable experiences I've had on any portable machine. It's comparable to Link's Awakening, Phantom Hourglass, Mother 3 and Etrian Odyssey as far as I'm concerned. The entire game from beginning to end failed to let me down once and is a complete package that no FF fan should ignore."

Another one:

"This game is a blast, even with my limited Japanese , i am enjoying this game. Square really outdone themselves with this game. Who would have thought a FF7 prequel on the psp would be so awesome especially after the lackluster dirge of Cerberus."

and another:

"I hope I am not late to the party, because THIS GAME IS AWESOME.

Granted, there's many parts that give the nostalgic feel for ****c FFVII fans, but all in all, it is like a brand new game...considering most of these anime beauty boys weren't even in the original"

This game has been getting amazing impressions from everyone.

This thread is a failure. TC how can you say Halo 3 did better than CC when it has been out for a couple of weeks already? Halo 3 barely still barely outsold it.fiveftwang
Its a big deal because: 1.)the japanese hate fps's 2.)the japanese arent too big on american games (crash bandicoot, i believe is the only successful one) 3.)the japanese hate the 360 (its still losing to the gc I THINK) 4.)it beat pokemon 5.)it beat final fantasy

Not to argue for the sake of arguing, but are these reviews from just community members who imported the game? If so I can't say I'd give them any credence. Anyone who imports a game already feels pretty passionate about the material. Not to say they're wrong, but those types of people usually go into the game with a very strong bias, and rarely offer an objective opinion. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what the rest of the net says once its released.

Fair enough, I have very high hopes for this game, though.

I think alot of you are missing the point here. Just the fact that japanese gamers are even giving halo a chance says more than most of you are admitting.

No it really doesn't, theres a Japanese fanbase for Halo and has been since the first one, the problem is then that the fanbase is tiny so much so that they are virtually inconsequential in the larger game market there. I'm willing to bet you that Before Crisis got more sales than Halo 3 has there, that being a cell phone game.
