Halo 3

+ Extremely High Res textures uniformely throughout the game

+ Certain player models are exquisitely detailed

+ Grand draw distance andNPC count

+ Amazing effects (explosions, motion blur, water)

- 30 FPS

- Ugly humans

- No real time environmental lighting

- Interesting Marine walking animation...

Call Of Duty 4

+ Great draw distance, loads of NPCs

+ Generally exquisetely detailed player models

+ Unbelievable real-time environmental lighting

+ 60 FPS

- Trashy and uneven texturing in environments

- Low AA

- No physics whatsoever

These are the pros and cons: all of which are true to a good extent and have led me to conclude that CoD4 is graphically inferior to Halo 3. It feels like Infinity Ward spent too much time on lighting and not nearly enough on texturing. Whereas Bungie was a bit more in favor of textureing when it came to graphical prowess.

You can't deny my logic...

Oh yeah this is GRAPHICS ONLY not gameplay.

Way too different styles of play to realistically compare.

- Low AA

Last time I checked, Halo 3 had zero AA despite running below 720p.

You don't have to be a fanboy to see that Halo 3 looks pretty darned good. Admittedly it looked very rough during development, and that is where the Halo 2.5 thing came from. But saying that now just makes you look foolish. And I know you aren't foolish....

Halo looked ok, but it was a bit of a let down. I definitely don't recall any EXTREMELY high resolution textures.

COD4 beats Halo 3's visuals in almost every way. I noticed you left out the poor AA or lack thereof for Halo 3. You mentioned low AA for Call of Duty 4, so I would imagine you would talk about Halo 3's. Especially when it's clearly worse in Halo 3.

I like Halo's art style a lot better and it has a lot more longevity in terms of mp than CoD4. But seriously, you can get both games, you don't have to choose between the two.

Uncle_Uzi

Is that a joke? And why would you bring up as a negative for CoD4 that it has "low AA", when Halo 3 is jaggie-central at 640p?

I do think Halo 3 looks good, because the lighting and particle effects are truly phenomenal. But the graphics are too inconsistent to put it above a sublime-looking game like CoD4.

you have got to kidding me. halo 3 is a decent looking game at best consdiering the standards set by gears for 360 halo 3 did fall quite short but it really doesn't matter becuase gameplay somewhat made up for that. cod4 is on par with all nex gen games in nearly every catagory minus SP

The texturing in it is miserable.

Jaggy central my ass. You're paying too much attention to the grass. Look at everything else.

And seriously. Take a good close look at the beach wall in Last Resort. You will come to know the meaning of great textures.

WTF you listed cod4 having low AA when halo 3 had no AA and was a jagfest, and BTW lemmings hyped call of duty 4 graphics not cows, because lemmings needed something to hype when killzone 2 was getting all attention at e3for it's graphics so lemmings could feel better about themselves.

I'll have to disagree, As much as I like halo3 I wouldn't use it to show how great the graphics are on the 360,

when I played through call of duty4 I couldn't believe how beautiful the game was and that it ran at 60 fps.

Halo 3 has very good textures, much better then COD 4. But thats where it pretty much ends. The special effects are probably better in Halo 3 also.

Sad how most Halo 3 fanboys bash CoD4 without playing it and vice-versa.

I played both on a 1080p on the 360.

I beat Halo 3 before I got the 1080p on a 19" 720p PC monitor -- it was there that I started to notice the "jaggies", and I was one of the first who started posting about the lower resolution.

Then I got the 1080p and CoD4. Lawds MERCY. Without AA Halo 3 is really... Halo 2.5. It's not a bad game, there are lots of effects, the gameplay is fun, but gggoooodddd. I play it on the 19" now because it just damn looks better.

Now when compared to CoD4, I can't say that the game looks great. Look at the grass draw distance in the training mission. The game doesn't do a good job with AA either. In scenes with no lighting effects, it looks worse than Battlefield 2.

But (!!!) in darker scenes and dynamic lightning effects scenes, it just takes your breath away. That said, CoD4 does look better than Halo 3 overall. Due to several factors, including resolution and AA. The art direction and colorness is a bit better in Halo 3, but the low res and no AA kills it.

I'm not a fanboy of neither of them, and I played both on a 42" 1080p. And it is my impression that Call of Duty 4 looks a lot better than Halo 3. Although I honestly enjoyed Halo's last 2-3 hours of gameplay more than the whole CoD4 experience.

I think Halo 3 had prettier graphics and a much better SP. Multiplayer is pretty much equal because they are both extremely addictive. I'd say Halo 3 > COD4, but not by much.

COD4 runs in a higher resolution, with double the framerate, which MUCH more going on at a single time, and still manages to look better. Hats off to Infinity Ward, and Wag of the finger to Bungie.

Although there's one or two really bad human character models, a lot of them are on par with this:

And for some reason in that pic, the lighting got messed up (I have darker blacks on the pic on my TV).

Also, I think Miranda Keyes is more detailed than Alyx Vance, texture wise. If she had the same intricate facial animations that Alyx had, she woulda blown her away in all aspects.

I think most of you guys would have been more pleased with Halo 3 being a completely static world (like Gears and CoD 4), which would have allowed it to be more superficially appealing, but less on the effects and physics etc. I honestly don't think there's going to be another game quite like Halo 3 on consoles, in terms of what's constantly happening around you. Most of them are gonna follow the Gears/CoD 4 "lifeless environment" path.

Btw, who else thinks that cinematic at the end of "Floodgate" was visually awe-inducing? Damn Bungie has a way with those lighting effects!

You're an idiot.... CoD4 DOES have physics.... much more realistic at that too. I doesn't look "prettier" but that's the art style. The "muddy" look that's designed to represent warfare accurately.

It's got AA and runs at 720p with 60 FPS. Halo 3 LACKS AA and runs at 640p at 30 FPS. And the PC CoD4 looks better than the 360 CoD4. The only thing Halo 3 has over CoD4 is the larger environment and the water. While CoD4 has high-detail character models, motion captured character animations, more special effects (which are better) going on at the same time.

Tell me if I "didn't give reasons" that CoD4 looks better than Halo 3. Tell me why Halo 3 is better graphically, wheb CoD4 beat Halo 3 at the E3 07 best graphics on the 360. And don't call me a CoD4 fanboy, seeing as your post (CoD4 bad AA?) proved you are a Halo fanboy.

aliblabla2007

CoD 4's physics consist of a few bricks falling here and there. Other than that, it's pretty much static like the previous CoDs. When he said muddy textures, he meant they weren't sharp.

CoD 4 has less effects going on than Halo. Halo's environments are huge, and they're not exactly empty. And motion capture is a design choice. Whereas most devs opt for it, Bungie decided to do purely do their's hand drawn. I think they did a pretty remarkable job doing it from scratch.

CoD 4 beat Halo 3 at E3 07 because Halo was barely there at E3 07.

texture quality aside, most textures in Halo 3 are 1024x1024, with some 2048x2048 (see Storm level, the road, etc...) Yes there are a few 512x512, but the majority are 1024x1024 normal mapped textures.

So no, the wii couldn't...

COD4 is native 720p, not 1080p.

Halo 3

+ Extremely High Res textures uniformely throughout the game

+ Certain player models are exquisitely detailed

+ Grand draw distance andNPC count

+ Amazing effects (explosions, motion blur, water)

- 30 FPS

- Ugly humans

- No real time environmental lighting

- Interesting Marine walking animation...

Call Of Duty 4

+ Great draw distance, loads of NPCs

+ Generally exquisetely detailed player models

+ Unbelievable real-time environmental lighting

+ 60 FPS

- Trashy and uneven texturing in environments

- Low AA

- No physics whatsoever

These are the pros and cons: all of which are true to a good extent and have led me to conclude that CoD4 is graphically inferior to Halo 3. It feels like Infinity Ward spent too much time on lighting and not nearly enough on texturing. Whereas Bungie was a bit more in favor of textureing when it came to graphical prowess.

You can't deny my logic...

Halo 3 is one of my favorite games on the 360 but COD4 is more impressive in terms of presentation. The game alone running at a smooth 60FPS with alot of gun fire going on is more impressive. I see way more jaggies in Halo 3 as well than in COD4. I mean you can't beat the sniper mission when you have to use alot of stealth to get by your enemies rather than shooting them. That is my favorite mission right now COD4 and one of my favorite missions of all time.
