Halo is slowy but surely sliding to the casual side...Solid-CELL
Halo 2 had already done that. Halo 3 is leaning more towards the hardcore side.
It's as if Bungie cast their net wide with Halo 2, and since they knew they had their customers in the bag, they focused more on the core audience.
In any case, a Time's magazine article does not constitute for Halo being casual.

But that sure as hell constitutes a Time magazine reader that (chances are) doesnt know squat about what he's reading about on that Halo article. And that, most likely is a casual.

But being a casual reader that reads an article about Halo does not make Halo casual by any account.
I don't know how you came up with that logic.
Thanks for posting the article. Great read. I especially liked this:
"IT'S DIFFICULT TO EXPLAIN THE STORY OF Halo, but that difficulty is in itself worthy of note. This isn't Donkey Kong. The Master Chief is not an Italian plumber whose girlfriend has been kidnapped by a gorilla. His story is rich and complicated in ways that we're not used to in video games."
the article itself is horribleMr47fitter
I disagree. The article was obviously catered to somebody who does not have extensive knowledge of Halo. Its purpose was to inform the incognizant reader about how the Halo franchise is doing things that none other before it has. It accomplished its task proficiently.

Explain, please.
Its makes out gamers to be some weird under ground anti- social culture...
I Find it annoying how much money MS Spends to advertise this game. Just when I was about to go into the store to get a fresh coffee I look on the cup and there a honking picture of mastercheif and a riffle on the damn thing.
I cant get away from it!!111

They called it a cliche; a stereotype. That idea has negative connotations.
did they just say "maybe its time for halo to join the cool kids" **** that we are the cool kids, gamers for life 8)
I don't want some Halo tv show, lol (Just a bad movie)

I don't want a bad movie either. I want a bloody good movie to school the other sci fi movies.
For that, I want Neil Blomkamp out of the damn ring.
Once I get hold of Mr. Jackson, I'm gonna have a talk with him about it. This isn't hypothetical, I'm seriously going to do it.
This whole 'Master Chief is faceless', 'shouldn't remove his helmet because you're supposed to be him',is annoying me. We already know how he looks like. He's described several times in the novel as a kid and somewhat as he is now, and his name is frickin John....he's not you. We already know he's white, and very pale too due to him wearing his armor suit most of the time, tall, redhead with freckles...but obviously, after his years training in the spartan program and all the battles he fought, he's mostly a scarred mess now. So I find it hard to understand when some Halo fans say that they'll bemad if they reveal his face in the game?kankthetank
im betting they will show the back of his head when the credits come up or something.

If you read between the lines, it seems that Bungie were taken aback, and perhaps slightly annoyed at the fact that Eric Nylund described what Master Chief looks like.
And they still go by the fact that Master Chief will never show is face. Ever.
That already shows their stiffness against what Nylund did. Since the Fall of Reach, I don't think he's ever described Master Chief's features so elaborately.

??? Where did you get that? You know that Eric Nyland frequently sits down with Bungie and they can edit or remove whatever they don't like. Any new info always has to pass through Bungie before it's official. Plus, they had to explain MC's background and how he became a Spartan; it'll be kinda hard to write a novel about someone without actually describing him.
