Maybe it's because I played Halo 2 to death and H3 is just...boring? Could be that the community of Halo 3 isn't anywhere near Halo 2's. Maybe Halo 2 had better maps? At least in the case of Wii Fit and Wii Sports and such, they really are distinct, unique types of games - something relatively new. In the case of Mario Kart, it's just simply the worst one ever released - and probably the best seller.

Ah, this is simple Economics 101. For a product to be "substitute" (PS3, 360), they have to be comparable and roughly get the same experience from it. The Xbox 360 and PS3 are pretty much on par with each other in regards to power, multimedia, games, and online. The Wii is the odd child in regard to this, a completely different experience and different product as a whole, but still interrelated to the gaming market as a whole. The difference is simple -- the PS3 and X360 are aimed at a different demographic than the Wii, therefore, the Wii is not its (X360, PS3) competition. Think of it this way, you have a Prius, and two high-end sports cars... which would sell more? Are all three of these cars all aiming for the same demographic?

Each console is aiming for "everyone" of course -- but their (X360, PS3) main focus, or main deomographic, is definitely not the same as the Wii's (Casual and non-gamer). Ah, but they don't limit themselves to one certain demographic, the majority of their revenue comes from the core gamers and casual gamers, and the vast majority of their quality titles shoot for that very same demographic -- but they still advertise and place marketing towards other demographics. (Casuals gamers on the Xbox 360 and PS3 are different from the Wii)
What you say is true to a certain extent, but you wouldn't see an intelligent company placing the majority of their resources where they knew they wouldn't sell as much as Nintendo's Wii. That's just bad business.
