Except no one actually said Halo 5 sold through ~5 million. Greenberg said Tomb Raider sold through over 1 million. But him saying that doesn't mean Stinkles was using sold-through numbers for Halo 5. That's an assumption. This is the same company that bragged about Quantum Break being the best selling, new MS IP this gen, then later clarified that it only counted the first week sales. They put these things out there without concrete data so their fans draw favorable conclusions that don't necessarily coincide with reality.
for god sake the butthurt in you is beyond logic
so what you're saying is 5 mill sold to the store and somehow 16.5mill NINJAS sneak up on gamestop and manage to play the game on the Store without buying it THINK ABOUT WHAT YOUR SAYING HERE ...
GET OVER IT it sold good
Yeah, ninjas, or, you know, a whole lot of Xbox One owners that could download and play it for a week for free...
Here is even more confirmation of just how successful Halo 5 has become, all of the below prove that the game sold-through approximately 5 million units by the end of January 2016, a mere 3 months after release.
I'll break this down so it's more easily understood.
These are posts on Neogaf discussing the sales of Halo 5, bitbydeath's post is referring to Microsoft's announcement of Halo 5: Guardians, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Forza Motorsport 6 and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition selling over 1 million units each which you can see in Microsoft's official post below. As is noted by Aaron Greenburg the numbers they are speaking of are sold-through due to someone asking him specifically about Rise of the Tomb Raider, because that would naturally be called into question. Stinkles AKA Frank O'Conner the Development Director for 343 Industries replies to bitbydeath's speculations of where the numbers lie with a response of "It was ~5M at 3 months.", or in other words approximately 5 million at 3 months.
Bear in mind that Aaron Greenburg made it clear the figures they announced are sold-through on the 4th of January, and this Neogaf discussion is taking place 5 months later in June. Everyone at that point is well aware the figures are sold-through, everyone is well aware the discussion is about sold-through figures and everyone is aware that Stinkles is Frank, who makes it abundantly clear that Halo 5 sold roughly 5 million units in 3 months.
So, Halo 5 was at approximately 5 million units sold-through 5 1/2 months ago, what it's at now I have no idea, but I would wager it's several million above that by now.

If you actually watched the video, he states that forge has had 5.5 million matches and that those matches had 16.5 million players. He is not stating unique players or numbers sold. He is stating the total number of players in those matches 5.5 million matches. The actual source of articles are that presentation.
If you think Halo 5 is at 16.5 million, then you believe that Halo 5 sold better install basewise on the xboxone than every single Halo game added up and combined (Halo 3, OSTD, Reach, Halo 4 and Halo Wars all combined and added up) on the xbox 360. All halo games total sales added together on the xbox 360 was at 50% of the total number of xbox 360 (around 40 million compared to 80 million xbox 360 sold). If you really believe it is at 16.5 million then that would mean Halo 5 sold better than it did at launch every monthafterwards until now. That would mean it must have dominated NPD at the very top charts number 1 every month. It would mean that Halo 5 sold more per month than the average of the first 3 launch months. Christ, Panda... how many times do I have to correct you? First, the PSN/Live account issue and now this.
