Why is everyone acting like Halo is gods gift to gamers master chief is just an attempt microsoft did to get their own Samus a failed attempt at that. The Halo series cant touch the Metroid series let alone the big 3 ... Samus has been shootin em up since 1987 ... halo is just a Rookie you cant even compare the two thats an insult to Metroid.

P.S Halo is not going to move more 360's than Nintendo will move Wii's this xmas

MARIOSDAD_basic

P.S. Halo is the Spiderman of the gaming world buddy... Everyone is anticiping it. And Halo won a million more awards than Metroid Prime 1-2

I love this argument. Metroid has older prequels, so it's better. I always knew ultima was better than every final fantasy game.

i try not to compare the two. halo is an fps that caters to casuals. mp is technically an fps, but it plays more like a platformer/adventure game.

though i still think mp is better :P

[QUOTE="peaceful_anger"]Last time I checked, Metroid Prime had a 9.7 and a GOTY award from gamespot, as well as being the 3rd highest rated game on game rankings. Obviously gaming sites and publications think Metroid Prime is a better game than Halo; I just wish gamers felt the same way.peaceful_anger

Uh...Halo also got 9.7 here, and Halo 2 scored higher than Echoes...

Having said that, the best Metroid game was released before any of these review sites existed, so score comparisons don't really work.

Metroid Prime and Halo might have both received a 9.7 from gamespot, but it was Metroid Prime that garnered GOTY on gamespot, and Halo didn't. And yes, I agree that Super Metroid is the best Metroid game.

they weren't released in the same year. if they had been, who knows what could have happened.

I couldn't live without either of these games, Halos co-op  online split screen multiplayer and Metroid Primes exploration and Boss battles. If I had to choose, I would give a slight edge to Prime.

I could however live with out KillZone :?

This is true, but if you go back to my original post, I also stated that gaming sites and publications thought that Metroid Prime was the better game as you can see with it being the 3rd highest rated game where as Halo is the 9th highest. I just happen to agree with the gaming sites and publications instead of the general gaming public on this one. People just have different opinions on which game they like better, and I just happen to be in the minority by liking Metroid Prime more.

Well aren't MP3 and Halo 3 being released this year at around the same time?

To me, I don't really think both games are uber awesome, they both have their advantages and disadvantages.  Halo has a great Multiplayer and has revolutionized online FPS gaming experience like nothing anybody could have imagined, but the main game was in my opinion a little boring and too generic.  Metroids story was kind of boring and bland and I am very excited about 3(having a more emphasis on story).  The main gameplay is downright amazing and almost perfect.

To me, there is no way comparing.  They are both two different games, appeasing to two different genres.

I do think if Halo 3 is released this year, MS will win the year as well.  Halo 3 will push so many Xboxs out of gamestores, I wouldn't be suprised if it was like launch all over again.

First of all they cannot be compared... secondly, Metroid has five 2D sidescroller adventure games in the series which practically defeats any purpose of comparing the series altogether.

An action/adventure game series should never be compared to a first person shooter game series... even if two of the games from each vaguely share shooting elements.

Metroid =/= Halo

Metroid Prime is an almost perfectly made game, but it really lacks replay value. I've played it once since it came out, and haven't touched it since.

Where as I've beaten Halo many times, and I have beaten Super Metroid even more times than that. And looking further down the road, I'll be playing Super Metroid and MAYBE Halo 30 years from now...not Metroid Prime.  Super Metroid is a legend and has a huge legacy that can't be beaten.  Judging on Halo 2...Halo also might go down as that in the future when looking retrospectively.  Metroid Prime is just a very well made game that will always be outclassed by it's sequels and rendered useless

i am just going to say

Metroid Prime

"The game also became one of the best-selling games on the GameCube, with about 1.49 million copies sold in the United States alone.[4]. It is also the 8th best-selling GameCube game in Australia [35] and sold over 250,000 copies in Europe, thus entering the Player's Choice line[36]."

Halo 1

"Halo broke sales records; by April 8, 2002, one million units had been sold; this pace was faster than that of any previous sixth-generation console game.[73] During the first two months following Halo's release, the game sold with more than fifty percent of Xbox consoles.[74]Halo's retail price remained at US$49.99 until November 30, 2003.[75] By July 14, 2003, the game had sold three million copies worldwide,[76] and by January 28, 2004, it had reached four million copies.[77] Since its release on November 15, 2001, Halo has sold over five million copies worldwide.[6]"

 Halo 2

"The game sold 2.4 million copies and earned up to US$125 million in its first 24 hours on store shelves, thus out-grossing the film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest as highest grossing release in entertainment history.[57] As of November 9, 2005, exactly a year after its release, Halo 2 had sold more than 7 million copies worldwide.[58]"

save to say, halo is more well received, and is more of a console pusher.  Please, shh.

No, i am going to use logic instead of stupidity, since you used that all up.  I am going to say that game sold alot due to the popularity that 50 cent had during that time, and that it sold alot to his casual gaming fans, along with his hardcore fans.

Both are very different games.

And besides,Metroid has been around for much longer, and Metroid Prime and Super Metroid are both considered two of the greatest games of all-time.

You know it's interesting. Bungie said they agreed they screwed up Halo 2 and they're really focusing on Halo 3 to be amazing. Retro says they were unimpressed by the sales of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and want to get as close to perfection as they can with Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. It's gonna be really cool when they both come out and see the end results of these two great companies. Honestly they both seem amazing.

Sales do not make a game good. They just show they are popular.

How does that make sense?
Sales dictate that alot of people like it, and enough sales, like o 7 million, show that the word of mouth must have been good.  50 cent sold copies due to his popularity, Halo 2 had no celebs or other things but its own merit.  Sales translate to a game being good, it is ignorant to say otherwise.

Look, this is pointless.

If you want thought provoking, puzzel solving, boss batle, exploration, and a great story get Metroid.

If you want fast paced, action oriented, heart throbbing, console online perfection, and a great fps get Halo.

Done and done.

Halo is an FPS. It has the whole works an FPS would generally have, an assortment of guns, plenty of locales in different areas, vehicles, and the works. Metroid is an adventure, game, and, in the case of Prime, First-Person Adventure.

While I'm not a huge fan of Halo, it does have a good multiplayer mode with plenty of maps. Metroid Prime is generally one cohesive world with many distinctive locales, enemies, and focuses more on evolution of character instead of pure action. Metroid Prime encourages exploring, while Halo... Well, you know.

Metroid as a series is an aesthetically-based game, and it's a very cohesive one at that. I prefer Metroid, however.

I am not denying that Halo is a good game. But using sales as proof as one being better than another is illogical.

Yeah, just stick with the score.

But that makes no sense.  An amazing game will sell alot of copies, that is what makes it so amazing.  Yes, their are games that go unoticed that are amazing but that sucks.  My main point on sales was not to say which is better, but to say which is better IN MORE peoples eyes.  If more people buy it, more people have the chance to like it.  ALso, it was to crush the TC saying halo will not sell 360 consoles.

It is still subjective. I do not own either Metroid Prime's or Halo's yet my opinion is that Metroid Prime is the overall better game. There is no ultimate opinion (like your sales example) that can overrule everyone else's opinion.

In the end, sales are still not proof that a game is good. I bet there were many people that bought both Halo and Metroid Prime and liked neither, one of the two more than the other, or both.
