So I finally got a chance to play campaign recently and thought I'd put my 2 cents on it to see what you guys think. So far, I'm 10 hours in and I still haven't finished it yet and I honestly have mixed feelings about this.

On one hand, Infinite's campaign is awesome in the overall scope of the world. But on the other hand, it feels kinda.....I dunno....dead? The game is basically free roam but my problem with it is it gets very repetitive very quickly. Rescue UNSC soldiers here, blow up towers there, capture FOB platforms, etc. Rinse and repeat and occasionally go deep inside the ring to do story missions. It's like a Halo version of Destiny but without any other players running around it. And you definitely feel it when you constantly get surrounded by Banished all the freaking time. They come at you hard like as if you're playing with other people and that really makes it feel like a chore to do side quests.

Honestly, I think I'd rather have the old linear style of levels than this. Because at least they had a great amount of variety. This game is basically trying to convince you that it can capture the feel of the old Halo games over and over again. Like, imagine playing the 2nd level of Halo CE again and again and that's basically the whole game. And it definitely shows with the storytelling. I don't know why but I really REALLY do NOT like 343i's storytelling. It STILL sounds like a lame fan fiction plot with a bunch of easter eggs of old memories that attempt to play with your nostalgic strings. It comes off as cheesy and cliche, like they're glamorizing Halo in a fashion Bungie never would have done.

Well, maybe I'm being too harsh on Halo Infinite but that's just how I feel about it so far. I haven't been "wowed" by anything yet and what I have done just feels dull and boring. Maybe my mind will change once I finish the rest of the campaign. So does anyone else feel like this? I currently give Halo Infinite's campaign a 7/10 very disappointed.

Also, I still don't like Infinite's game play. I feel so much slower, I can't do any assassination kills and it really bothers me. The game also let's you upgrade Master Chief's armor too thanks to Armor Cores but they mostly feel useless except for the Grapple Hook. If it weren't for the Grapple Hook, you'd almost swear you're playing an older Halo game with a sprint mod. Take that as you will. lol

I've nearly finished it and I've had a blast with it. Sure it could look a bit better and have a little more variety in the environment. But the gameplay is what carried me though. It just feels so good to play. 8/10 for me for the SP but 10/10 for the MP now they added FFA slayer.

I loved it. I thought the combat is great. Storytelling is good too. Loved the open world feel. 9/10 for me.

Yeah I agree, OP. I like Halo but this Far Cry injected into Halo with the going around and wiping out enemy alien forts and moving on to the next one is super dull. Got bored by the second one and uninstalled from Gamepass after about 3 hours. I'll just play the MP and the older Halos. This one is just boring to me. Maybe if I was younger and didn't play as many video games as I have now this one would resonate with me more just like others seem to say.

@poe13:

Yeah. It's funny that Halo Infinite has just about everything wrong with current open world games. Repetitive missions, reused level designs, pointless audio logs, and an almost pointless upgrade system. I found myself constantly depressed every time the Weapon A.I. said: "That's it for this structure, Chief. What's next?" 🙄

You still gave it a 7/10 though which is a good score. From reading your OP I'd have expected a 3/10 with how much you seemed to hate it.

Played through it on Legendary difficulty and loved it. Had a great time doing all the FoB’s, HVT’s, and other side stuff in the open world environment and enjoyed the linear stuff during the beginning and end portions. Some pretty frustrating moments here and there on the high difficulty but a satisfying experience overall. Liked the story well enough and am really looking forward to seeing where they take things from here. 9/10 for me.

Wow Legendary, well done! I've almost finished it on Heroic and I imagine some encounter being a nightmare on Legendary.

It is the best Halo gameplay wise in a long time. The story is just dumb like the last 2 games and suffers from trying to be "deep" but don't understand the concept of being "deep". Instead, it is just a bunch of contrived experiences. The world looks great but it does become monotonous. There was an opportunity to curate the experiences in the world without peppering randomly placed encounters.

Multiplayer beta, but not the final game. Expecting a 6/10. If the story isn't as bad as i expected it to be, maybe a 7/10, but everyone but fanboys are saying the story is complete shitshow.

I talk about this numerous times in the other thread but I'll just keep it sort since I'm too lazy to copy/paste in my own opinion.

Halo: Infinite was a great game, it feels like I'm back to Halo: Combat Evolve feeling is what I like about Infinite. As for this whole open-world, it's mostly just a Sandbox and hardly an open-world I'm used to. Gameplay is top-notch but the grabbling hook makes the game easy to climb mountains and launching into the Banished enemies is way helpful, especially hijacking vehicles in the process. That said, I gave it a 7/10 in my previous thread. Now that I'm done, I'm now playing the MP for the most parts but it's always Slayer FFA playlist I prefer the most.

@gym_lion:

I don't *hate* Halo Infinite per se. I just hate the direction they took with the game design. The fundamentals of what makes Halo, Halo is still there and because of that, it's still fun to play. It just lost the soul of what could've made it feel fresh. And that's what Halo CE felt like. A breath of fresh air. This is a giant compilation of great ideas jumbled into a pile and then scattered throughout a giant sandbox. I love the ideas but I hate the delivery. And the story is a big reminder that 343i has terrible writers who just can't write a good Halo story without plucking at nostalgia.

Hate isn't the word, just low expectations from what TC describe compare to me.

I also was passing negativity in my own thread and what 343 could have done better and guess what, I too gave it a 7/10. I pass on credit where it's due. But at least Halo: Infinite fair better than most...like BF2042 and Infinite is missing features like co-op & mission selection. Than again, I was being honest about my score since Halo: Infinite is on Game Pass and playing it on PC+Game Pass was the best experience and while I don't like passing a game that's on Game Pass, I would have given it a lower score if I had to pay full price but still, Halo: Infinite did well but 343 could have done more.

Hmmm...sounds like another familiar franchise or two from a certain other big developer that dominates sales with each new entry. I wonder why 343 decided to take a page from them.

@davillain-:

Yeah, ya pretty much hit the nail on the head, DV. 👏

My expectations were already low coming from 343i. After Halo 4 and 5 I was already convinced that mediocrity is gonna be the new norm for Halo in terms of storytelling and design choices. For that, Infinite is almost what I expected. Though it failed on other departments were I thought even they couldn't screw up so badly.

@nepu7supastar7: Sorry I didn't realize this was difficult. I'm talking about Ubisoft. For the last decade that company has just been pooping out the same reused and repetitive-tasked games over and over again. Ubisoft to my mind is the poster child for copy and paste game company. Rockstar, Bethesda, and any others at least have some variety in their games. Other companies might have recycled assets and whatnot but not to the level of Ubisoft.

So by extension, Far Cry and Assassin's Creed are the copy and paste games that have unfortunately left their mark on the industry and for some reason (probably because those games sell well) other studios take note and add these crappy Ubisoft elements to their games. Then you get Halo Infinite.

Its not even that big, not what you expect anyway. You only get a small portion of the ring to explore. I finished the game last night. Id give it 5/10.

I completed it on the second highest level (heroic?).. I enjoyed it I would give it around an 8/10 as it does need a bit more to do now that the campaign is done but as the poster above me said, they will be adding to it over the next 10ish years

It seems ok from what I've played of it, the tone feels more like classic halo which is good but it hasn't really gripped me so far so to speak. Maybe I just can't get into open world games anymore.

@girlusocrazy:

But when they said "add more content" weren't they specifically talking about multiplayer? The only thing that I can think of adding to campaign is co-op but I guess side stories would be cool too.

Story was once a selling point for the games to me. Halo is a sci-fi war game with an over abundance of lore. It was simple in design but the fights made it feel bigger. They were war stories about a lone soldier put against impossible odds to save humanity. That made the trilogy feel VERY impactful. You had a purpose and the role you played had an enormous impact on the universe itself. No other fps had that. You were just a random soldier fighting a war you didn't really understand. In Halo, you knew everything about it and how high the stakes were. So yeah, they kinda were a big deal. 343i is just trying to run on that success.

In its current state it's probably the 2nd worst Halo campaign, only better than Halo 5. I think I liked the open world activities- rescue soldiers, destroy plants, destroy towers, kill targets, and especially find the upgrades and cosmetics- a little more than most but it's still not great.

The first level I thought was really good but most of the linear sections dragged on apart from a few cool encounters/moments.

I am looking forward to seeing the updates it gets over the next few years.

Multiplayer is the bee's knees tho

Exactly. Halo trilogy was the first big game series to get into when it came to fpses. Everything you did mattered in a huge way and it built the legend that Master Chief was the magical Spartan who can kill anything

i really enjoyed the campaign and i'm on another playthrough now..

If you don't like the openworld stuff, it's 100% optional.. personally, the combat is what makes those seemingly repetitive encounters unique when you try to tackle them, particularly on higher difficulty.. but if you're not interested, you can literally just play the main missions if you want..

you aren't forced to do side stuff..

Not a big halo fan myself, only finished halo 1 way back in the days and found it pretty dull… really enjoying this though, combat is great and so is the weapon and enemy variety! Think the story is decent enough, lot of the references I don’t understand but the overall plot seems fun enough to keep me going! 8/10 from me:)

And that is 3 flagship titles in a row. How does one not hire quality writers for such an important series? I just don't get MS.

I played the game myself and here are my thoughts.

Here is what I like about the game.

The combat is fun and I like the weapons a lot. The vehicles are still great to ride in. I really like how the military bases lets you choose what weapons and vehicles you want. The grappling hook is the best thing in the game, it's very fun to use all the time. Also I like upgrading the Master Chief's gadgets. Those new features are great. And finally the main story missions are good but not as good if you compare them to some of Bungie's Halo games. But I will say that this is 343's best Halo game yet. And if you count the multiplayer, I had a lot of fun with it. I still enjoy the slayer and oddball modes. Me and my friends are still playing it.

However the game also has a lot of issues as well.

The open world itself is very boring.

The entire game is just grassy fields and mountains and nothing else. No snow, jungle, sandy beaches or any other variety, just the same green mountains. I understand that the entire game doesn't take place on the entire Halo ring but just the separated parts of it but it would have been nice if it had more different types of themes to it. Even Halo 4 and 5 had more variety with the level worlds.

Also the side missions are awful. It's ether take over small military bases or killing a special enemy over and over again. It may be one of the worst side missions that I have ever played in an open world game. Also those audio logs are all bad. The story telling is ok. It's better than 4 and 5 but again not as good as Bungie's Halo games. I didn't care for that pilot who helps the Master Chief. All he does is whine and complain in the entire game. The weapon A.I isn't as bad but she can be annoying as well when she tries to be funny.

And the lack of co-op and not able to do a level again really sucks as well. I know that the game will get them in the future but for now it just feels unfinished.

Overall I had fun playing Halo Infinite but there are plenty of problems with the game. I hope that 343 and Microsoft will add more content for Infinite in the future as they promise. Not just for multiplayer but more story level missions, better side missions this time, and more variety with the open world themes.

Yes but I am stuck at a boss and sort of rage quit and haven't gone back to it.

It's the boss at the mine, pretty early in the game. You go up into the laser miner thing and he fights you in this room. I can never put enough distance between him and me and he kills you in like one or two hits. Any tips?

I am enjoying (or was lol) the game, it's a solid shooter and surprisingly I like the semi-open world.
