So I finally got a chance to play campaign recently and thought I'd put my 2 cents on it to see what you guys think. So far, I'm 10 hours in and I still haven't finished it yet and I honestly have mixed feelings about this.
On one hand, Infinite's campaign is awesome in the overall scope of the world. But on the other hand, it feels kinda.....I dunno....dead? The game is basically free roam but my problem with it is it gets very repetitive very quickly. Rescue UNSC soldiers here, blow up towers there, capture FOB platforms, etc. Rinse and repeat and occasionally go deep inside the ring to do story missions. It's like a Halo version of Destiny but without any other players running around it. And you definitely feel it when you constantly get surrounded by Banished all the freaking time. They come at you hard like as if you're playing with other people and that really makes it feel like a chore to do side quests.
Honestly, I think I'd rather have the old linear style of levels than this. Because at least they had a great amount of variety. This game is basically trying to convince you that it can capture the feel of the old Halo games over and over again. Like, imagine playing the 2nd level of Halo CE again and again and that's basically the whole game. And it definitely shows with the storytelling. I don't know why but I really REALLY do NOT like 343i's storytelling. It STILL sounds like a lame fan fiction plot with a bunch of easter eggs of old memories that attempt to play with your nostalgic strings. It comes off as cheesy and cliche, like they're glamorizing Halo in a fashion Bungie never would have done.
Well, maybe I'm being too harsh on Halo Infinite but that's just how I feel about it so far. I haven't been "wowed" by anything yet and what I have done just feels dull and boring. Maybe my mind will change once I finish the rest of the campaign. So does anyone else feel like this? I currently give Halo Infinite's campaign a 7/10 very disappointed.
