Halo Infinite disc itself doesn't contain a playable game at all. Net connection absolute requirement to get one

So, you don't own a standalone copy.

Isn't this how all games are now?

I can't remember the last time I bought a disc for my PS4 and it didn't require me to download a 20GB "patch"

I don't play primarily on console so I might be mistaken, but this seems like yet another "let's bash Halo" thread.

You can't OFFLINE. There is no COMPLETE PLAYABLE game on disc. That's the point. So, John Linemann bashed the Halo Infinite at first because he can't play the game offline, not me because i've quoted him?? :/

Returnal had day 1 patch, but i could play it offline without a sweat. You can't Halo Infinite because THERE IS NO COMPLETE playable game on disc. Basically like it is empty!

I don't understand his complaint.

I agree that the game (or any retail game) should be on the disk, but this is FAR from the first game to do this.

I don't like it but I wonder why it's an issue for them all of a sudden.

John Linemann confirms that there is no option to replay the story/campaign missions.

I'm sure they'll add that down the road when they add coop, still a jerk move thats clearly designed to funnel people to the multiplayer....which has MTX

That said, not the first game to do it so a bit weird Halo gets called out for it.

With so many games requiring day one patches, this seems like a weird complaint. Now, if we are talking about the fact that the game is incomplete, well.😌 However, I appreciate TC delivering on the first copium thread. I look forward to the others.

Joking aside; 343 isn’t the first nor is it the last company to do this, not that I’m excusing them…

I agree that it sucks when a game comes out on a physical medium but it’s not actually on that physical product. This isn’t the first game to have done this though. I really wish that companies would stop doing this. If you’re going to go to all the trouble and spend all the money to actually put out a physical version for your game then why not just put the actual game on that product.

Yeah. Excuses, Xbox fans. You can't play this game offline which John Linemann stated. I've quoted HIM, Xbox blind fan. So, physical copy is useless.

We are getting to the point where physical media is getting in the way of progress. Folks are worried about physically owning something, or resale value. And I get it, I really do. But with ssd’s, evolving and ever changing games, and the flexibility that all digital gives devs, it seems like certain consumers are becoming more of a speed bump in the gaming world than anything else.

For me personally, this Halo Infinite not being playable from the disk is a nonissue. And most folks will be playing via Game Pass, so they won’t care either. But we will see the vocal minority making a lot of noise on social media about this over the coming days.

I mean, sure…if you don’t have any form of internet, I guess you would be looking for games that don’t require online patches, activation etc…there’s not too many of those left in these digital days.

Truth is Cows are looking for something - anything to halt the Halo/Xbox express, and this amounts to laying peanuts on the tracks.

Peanuts I tells ya.

@girlusocrazy: There’s a few Switch games that require either full or partial downloads. I think the Mega Man Collection and Mega Man X Collection had like half the game on cartridge and the other half needed to be downloaded. Not sure if the other console versions did the same thing with those games. I know that I’ve seen and heard about other games on the other platforms that either needed to be fully downloaded or patch on day one to even be functional.

All discs do is cost money to make and take up space, only to eventually end up in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.

They should just hand you a download code (useless Collectors Edition junk optional) and be done with it.

Sucks for physical folks but I buy only digital, so nothing changes for me. But, gamers have been fine with this practice since the majority of physical games with the exception of Nintendo, needs a day one patch. Physical purchasing gamers have every right to complain. But, I understand that this thread is your copium thread so this only matters because Halo Infinite is stressing you out. 😂

The way this seems for physical lovers, my advice is to wait for GOTY edition.

I totally agree here. But we also cannot forget about the 3rd-world and most people cannot get access to wi-fi and its why physical games are so needed for those areas.

It's a minor complaint and last-gen, most gamers didn't have an issue with digital. You either want to play the game so badly or you don't. Been enjoying digital gaming for the past years and don't ever regret doing so nor have I ran into problems. And really, I like to keep my games meaning I don't like reselling or trading them so yeah.

This really sucks for people living in the 20th century.

But... considering how Phill talks about game preservation this is not ok.

really? you want to talk about the garbage patch just to say we shouldn't have a physical halo?? Like who really cares at this point, add this plastic to the million other plastic things we use but don't need to.

as for me, yes this is a bit sad. Im not sure if I would have purchased the disc copy, but I have bought them in the past

To me, a company who claims to care about game preservation but can't even put a complete game on a disc is being hypocritical. Also, not sure how people who want physical media are getting in the way of anything. It's the digital people who continue to accept less and less from developers and this just condones that environment.

A game not being on a disc does not underscore the push for game preservation. You are conveniently ignoring the advancement in technology for sentimental connections to physical discs. We can store, backup every digital game that would outlast any standard physical medium. The issue that needs addressing is the portability of licenses more than whether or not we can play from a disc.

@girlusocrazy: The Mega Man Legacy Collections are broken up between a part 1 and a part 2. Part 1 is on the cartridge and part 2 has a download code in the box. The two parts are also sold separately digitally. You can still play the part 1 from the cartridge so other users would be fine in that aspect but once the code for part 2 was used then anyone else would have to buy that themselves. It’s not the most terrible thing in the world really, just a bit of a pet peeve I have myself.

On disc, if someone is playing a game from my library, anyone else can play a game from my library.

Steam is useless in an actual family setting.

Can all Steam games be shared with friends and family?

No, due to technical limitations, some Steam games may be unavailable for sharing. For example, titles that require an additional third-party key, account, or subscription in order to play cannot be shared between accounts.

Can two users share a library and both play at the same time?

No, a shared library may only be accessed by one user at a time.

When I authorize a device to lend my library to others, do I limit my own ability to access and play my games?

As the account holder, you may always access and play your games at any time. If you decide to start playing when another user is already playing one of your games, he/she will be given a few minutes to either purchase the game or quit playing.

Sometimes the games I’ve been given access to are unavailable for me to play. Why?

Shared games are only available on devices that have been authorized by the account holder. Shared games will be unavailable on even an authorized device when the account holder’s library is currently in use on another computer.

GOG DRM-free games don't have this problem though, and you can back up/restore your games offline. I would recommend GOG DRM-free games over Steam. However the GOG library isn't as big.

My point is that a lot of people are used to digital games, and Steam is the most well known of that type of service.

If you support Xbox, you support non-ownership and the oppressive existence they want to force on people....

Consoles are still stuck 2 decades ago in comparison towards PC's.

Because of SSD's, the blu-ray discs are nothing but installation dics with old install files.

Discs are useless.
