Halo (in multiplayer mode) is - just like Counter Strike - a game that any noob can pick up and have fun with in a few minutes.

That is the hallmark of a truly great game; it spans a broad range of gamers. To be good at it though you need lots and lots of practice, but you can have fun with it right away without having to spend hundreds of hours to learn every detail or fine-tuning your settings to save that .1 second of your reaction time to get the perfect headshot.

When it comes to consoles vs. PC it often boils down to controllers vs. mouse/keyboard. Sure, a mouse will often give you better reaction times and more precision. A good player though can have an amazing amout of control with a controller. And don't forget; console games are paced out of the reaction/precision a controller has and the playing field is identical for everyone. So if you feel that someone owns your a** when you play with a controller you're simply losing out to someone that is actually better than you.

That's why I hope multiplayer games on consoles never ever allow the use mouse/keyboard in online matches. Because then you're back to the PC world where your equipment and tuning has a noticeable effect on how 'good' you are.

It's truly a sad day when the benchmark of a 'great' game is how long it takes you to spin 180 degrees around and hit a perfect shot instead of enjoying the game and having fun.

Please do watch the videos though because if you actually listen to what the guy says, you'll find that there is a pretty well informed comment that this pro-gamer is trying to make.

There is a kind of paradigm shift now where the first person shooter genre is changing to serve a different demographic. Problem is that this demographic is getting dumbed down games in comparison to FPS games on PC.

This guy says that yes you need skill to play Halo at a high level but that there is no in-between levels. You are eithr a god halo player or your a bad halo player. In games like Quake and Unreal Tournament there are many tiers between a good player and a bad player.

No, thats wrong. A person who is equally skilled in both will do better with a mouse and keyboard. And like anyone, he will enjoy winning, therefore the mouse/KB player isin the advantage.

Yup, it is really quite difficult. I still play it regularly and I have never found a console FPS to be as fast or as accurate for controls. Hence why I have said that console FPS's are gimped and pathetic, they are too slow and poor for accuracy (aside from Metroid Prime 3 of course).

The good Halo novels were written by Eric Nylund, who is an experienced Sci-Fi writer and has wrote original novels and ones based on videogames. The books are actually quite good and you should consider actually reading them than just saying they suck because they are based on Halo.

I have read them actually, they are ok butthe storyline is pretty straight forward. They are not as bad as the Doom novels mind you, but not nearly as good as some of other sci-fi novels that I have read like the MechWarrior series which is more compelling in storyline then it is complex, or certain Star Wars novels. I am not big on video game novels though, most are pretty bad and I do not understand how people can read them.

For the first time I agree with you. The Halo novels are definatley not bad, but they pale in comparison to other Sci-Fi novels. I liked the StarCraft books quite a bit, though.
