No, no, no. I'm not trying to bash this game.

So, today I started playing Halo again (yes, I have played it before). I'm about 3-4 hours in right now, and I haven't noticed anything especially good about it. In fact, I've noticed many bad things. First of all, why's the gravity the way it is? When I jump I feel like I'm floating. It's probably like that because it's basically in space, but it's annoying. And what's up with the tunnels that look exactly the same? Seriously. I don't know how many times I've become confused running around in the tunnels, and I haven't even mentioned the rooms in the alien ship yet. Oh, man. I thought I was running around a circle. I thought I went back everytime I saw a room that looked exactly the same as the one 5 minutes ago.

And the enemies. It's the same enemies all the time. I don't know if this is going to change when i get deeper in the game, but so far, it's been too repetitive. The whole game is actually pretty repetitive; kill some aliens, open a door, kill some more aliens, open another door, kill some aliens again, this time 20 more of them, push a button to open a door.

Can someone tell me what it is about this game that is so freakin' good? All the reviews say it's one of the best games ever, but I just can't find that 'best' thing about the game. So far, it has only been an OK game. 7/10. Maybe my opinion will change when i've beaten it. Let's see.

Tonindo

I've highlighted the inconsistancies in your thread, you seem like a fakeboy to me trying to spawn another 6 page Halo bash thread. To be honest, you can bash Halo all you want to in your "Please don't bash me, I've played it before" sarcastic ways..but its been 6 years of reproving threads from fanboys like you. What makes you think you can change anyones mind if after 6 years of constant Halo bash threads no ones opinion of the game has changed. Trust me, the horse was dead and burried along time ago.

You come here wanting someone to tell you "Whats so good about this game" when in actuality..No one cares to pursuade you. Like I said, If after 6 years of Halo your not captured by what it has to offer then just move on. Don't think that your going to convince others to feel the way you do, because not everyone shares your likeing in games.

There are millions of people who enjoy and are looking forward to Halo, just to let you know, I would much rather listen to the voices of those millions of people then some unknown faceless screen name on the intranets.

Tonindo, you completely missed the point. So what if COD is a realistic game? My point is simpy that hardly any games have as many bad guys as Halo does. The vast majority see you shooting people or generic monsters. You really dont have a complaint there.

And by virtue of the fact that you're even comparing it to metroid outside of what we were talking about is silly; metroid isn't even a shooter.

The NAV marker is there not because "of teh awful level designs!" but for people who dont know where to go. BioShock has it too. Are you going to say that game has terrible level design?

Didn't think so.

Think about this; are you genuinely expressing complaints, or are you just hating on something? Because i find that when somone has a genuine complaint, if you address it reasonably they agree to disagree, or let it go, or agree that they were mistaken.

When someone makes a complaint, has that complaint addressed, and then just makes some more complaints; you're just dealing with a hater.

Also keep in mind you're playing a game which is six or seven years old.

Pro_wrestler is absolutely right. You can always tell a fanboy because a person who is reasonable would happily admit that the game is popular and viewed highly by critics, but would say that for whatever reason it just doesn't do it for them.

When you get a guy saying the game actually ISN'T good, demanding to know why it is, as if the millions of fans and AAA reviews across the board all got it wrong; you've got a fanboy on your hands.

Halo is a great console FPS.

Its FAR FROM PERFECT, but it is a very well presented and executed shooter.

In comparison to the PC FPS lineup however it loses much of the glory it gets in the console realm.

Yeah, Its like Dreams-Visions said..He may not be the biggest fan of Halo(Or a fan at all) but he does recognize it for being a monster of a game or for being very influencial to atleast console FPS'. Its foolish to think otherwise you know. What game wouldn't want to mimmick the success of Halo? I agree with your above post too, I admit that Halo is not perfect and I have discussed things like this with people but It's been a while since I have came accross someone with a legit opinon on the game rather than the want of going againts the general feeling of the game only to bash it.

Yup, this year I only watched Nintendos press conference. What's wrong with liking Nintendo games (I haven't checked my profile in a long time, but I'm pretty sure not all of them are Nintendo games. I think there's both Illusion of Gaia and Final Fantasy VI in there too.). And if you read my first post you probably saw that I wrote "I started playing Halo again". Today's not my first time.

Generally playing a game "again" means you've completed it at least once and are going back to play it through again. youve barely passed the halfway stage (thats where "guilty 343 spark" level is right?) so youve hardly constituted as playing the game "again" so far you would barely require as competent at the game.

EDIT: ive had to write this out 3 times now so im very peeved off

Arguably good story, had superb graphics back in the time, the AI was very advanced also (for it's time), the shield system gave an easier gameplay experience so you wouldnt be frustrated, the checkpoint systems was well done, the melees for the first timewasnt actually useless, the weapons, the openended levels, fun to use vehicles, superb co-op and just the fact that it was just plain fun.

It was Halo 2 which pissed me off and made me jump in the PC FPS bandwagon again.

Halo's storymode has never been why people liked the game. The reason why Halo has had such success is because it was one of the first Xbox titles that everyone bought meaning the first game everyone could play online with just about everyone they new. Personally I dont think the actual gameplay is amazing or revolutionary but what I loved about Halo when I played awhile back was the setup of the online setup options. Everything was setup ina way so that the user could customize almost everything and it was extremely easy to do. Most games even now do not offer all the easy party setup and map setup options. In closing it was not the gameplay at all that made Halo a great game, it was revolutionary online setup which built its fanbase and has made it one of the biggest games of all time.

So, nowdays you have to play a whole game series to say one of them is good or bad. I can't say Final Fantasy IV is good if I haven't played all 12 of them or that Majora's Mask is good if I haven't played all games in the series?

While I'm not sure--I've not played it--I would guess that it's probably not fair to review a game thats 6 years old. Maybe it did something on console shooters that had never been done before that's now common place.

HMMMMMM I wonder which group I'm going to listen too. Its not even the fact that I'm going with the general consensus of Halo.. Its the fact that I think its a good game and so do millions of others.

Tonindo
haven't said I hate the game. I've said i like it. It's good, it's just not as good in my opinion as it is in 7 million peoples opinion. Now, if 7 million people think this is the best game ever, I should at least think it's a great, if not a superb, game.

It's not like I'm comparing Halo with Metroid. There's really no comparison... No, that was a joke. Well actually not. I'm just saying I had more fun playing Metroid (Prime that is. Echoes wasn't good. Haven't played Corruption yet since I live in Sweden) than i've had with Halo.

Wait..so your saying MP2 wasn't good and you haven't played MP3? So what exactly are you comparing Halo too? Don't you think you should play all 3 Metroids and both Halo's to summon an opinion on the game..Your opinion is void to say the least.
Ok this is what I'm getting from you:
You didn't like MP2, haven't played MP3 and you've only played a few hours of Halo? Wow, I've only been here for 20 mintues and I've already been here too long.

So, nowdays you have to play a whole game series to say one of them is good or bad. I can't say Final Fantasy IV is good if I haven't played all 12 of them or that Majora's Mask is good if I haven't played all games in the series?

That makes no sense. Thats like saying you can skip chapters 4,6,8,12 and 16 of a 18 chapter [Book] and still know whats going on. Half the games your talking about you haven't even played and/or don't like so your opinion is full of inconsistancies:(

[QUOTE="Chaos_Daro"]The first Halo sucks now but the second one is still pretty fun. Zero_Fate_

I loved the first Halo but I thought it's sequel was complete crap.

Yeah a lot of people seem to think that. The main problem with Halo 2 is that the levels are too linear and they removed the pistol and AR from the first game. Other than that I think the second game is much better than the first.

The worst kind of fanboy is that who constantly tries to deny being such a fanboy, when all evidence points towards that not being the case.

Seriously; you're a huge nintendo fanboy. There's nothing wrong with that. Heck system wars is full of fanboys. But please dont kid yourself posting threads as if you're an unbiased, open-minded gamer willing to listen to any reasonable opinion. You made this thread to bash Halo. And you're only willing to listen to people who also want to bash halo.

That much is obvious.

OMG Not another one....Seriously, everytime I see a Halo-bashing thread or a Halo-is-overrated thread or a Master Chief-killed-my-dog thread I'm just gonna post this gif:

Coz damn it, that's what I really feel like doing sometimes. Is it so hard to accept Halo's popularity?

It's a 6 year old game that deserved all the praise it got. The game's production values were great, it felt like you're really in a conflict, the graphics were awesome at the time, the AI was arguably the best at the time, the sound was perfect and the music outstanding. It was a great experience. The game's story (as in what you were set to accomplish) was pretty basic; however, the underlying concept and Halo's universe in general, is rich and deep with mysteries; and that's a part of the reason why many dig it. Add to that an addicting and fun multiplayer experience and you'll understand why it's such a loved series.

Here's the deal with Halo when Bungie started halo they had a lot smaller development team they released a game that incorporated a good story with an ok single player game but the meat was in multiplayer. It was the fun weapons and vehicle physics along with co-op that made the game what it was.

From a console perspective coming from the back of goldeneye and the slightly better but also disappointing perfect dark (frame rate issues) Console gamers got halo with the ability to LAN multiple box's and play 4 on 4 with vehicles and other goodies. Level repetition was used to increase single player game play that's just what developers did those days when you aint got a big team you can only do too much.

Cue halo 2 lots of hype new features continued story and add in some novels which increased the fan base. Some argue halo2 wasn't as good as halo and was rushed which Bungie admit they didn't have the time they wanted the team was growing lots of new people working on the game but it still scored high due to the ability to play online. I didn't even touch the single player and have played halo2 for 2 years. Like it or not the game has last ability. When ever you make a competitive FPS see counter strike or quake you're going to get a huge following add in match making and you get why it's rated like it is.

Now Halo3 they've had more time the team has gelled together they have more money and a massive outsourced testing centre so they can tune the map design. They still have great match making but add in 4 player co-op the ending to the story better graphics a save film editor and then custom game editor like forge(think star craft and war craft custom games)you've got a AAAgame all over again.

"Halo 3 will be played for at least 2 years from now will be updated by Bungieoften they are a great developers with a great connection to the fans through bungie.net it will score 9.5 on gamespot and challenge for game of the year."

I expect more to play halo than ever before I expect this to be the best rated yet and for it to brake sales records. Prepare for the year of halo! Try some multiplayer come 25th you might just like it.

Now I'm finished with Halo. :)

It was pretty entertaining, although I still think the level design sucks. I guess I was a little too late playing the game, as some of you have said. After I finished it, I kind of got this urge to play Halo 2, but I don't think I will in a long time.

You know when a game is great-

When you have 5 threads every single day claiming its over rated/generic/average

REforever101

thats just cause people r pissed that this game gets praised so often, when it rly isnt that great. non halo fans cant understand how u could like it that much

1st....what F**** praise the 3rd isnt even out yet and all i see is once every 2 days somsone post screens while we have 1383091237 threads a day on why its ovverrated by the same F***** people.

2nd, When something is ovverrated by every major critic in the world...that means its not overrated...just get over youself, you not liking a game =/= overrated

Why do the mods allow a million "why is Halo good" "Halo is overated" threads a week?

I'm so tired of this stuff. Every damn day there's a new one. They should mod people like this cause it's just getting really annoying. I mean HOW MANY TIMES does this SAME THREAD have to be made?

Exactly. I think a stickied Halo discussion thread would be best. Sure there are a lot of stickies, but no other game on SW keeps getting bashed or praised daily by countless posters.

Welcome to my world. You see the droves of people calling it the second coming of Christ and you ask yourself... "how?"

Just lip up, sit back and know that you are better off not playing it.

Haha... fanboy. Guess you missed me defending Halo 3 yesterday.

I've tried Halo and Halo 2. Multiplayer and singleplayer. Found both to be excessively boring. Couldn't finish either campaign because it just kept dragging on and on with the same enemies in nearly the exact same levels.

I've given both games equal and fair objective opportunities to impress me, they failed on all accounts. Just because someone has a different opinion than you makes them a fanboy?

SUPER! You don't like it.

Know what you can do? Don't play it. Stop making these threads and when you happen to see a Halo thread DON'T CLICK IT.

Amazing what a few pointers can do to improve your time.

Well don't tell people they're better off not playing it.

I HATE Final Fantasy games but I don't go around saying someone shouldn't bother playing it. It's my opinion and that's that.

Why? Because your not particualy interested in the story or what is has to offer. I can say the same bit about Metroid, the character is a def-mute and I feel no way intertwined with her emotions but I don't say its a bad game or tell someone they shouldn't play it just because I don't share similar insight of a game. Theres no a reason to play MP3 if you've played the previous two, its the same derivative of itself adding nothing new to the series as a hole, so why play MP3?

You can't sit there and tell someone they shouldn't play a certain game because you failed to follow what was going on and then call it "Your opinion." Thats probably the biggest hypocritical contradiction I have ever seen on these forums.

Yes. Your opinion. Other people also have opinions, and some of them choose to make a thread about them, like me. I tried to point out various things about Halo that I don't like. I didn't try to make people stop playing it. I wanted to understand what people like about, since I fail to see that. After finishing Halo, I have to say, it's a decent game -- repetitive -- but entertaining every now and then.
