The PSP wins in terms of quality? What in the world do you base that on?

yeah...the ds has both quality and quantity in terms of it's library :|

Not to mention that it's unique conceptually.

[QUOTE="Brainhunter"]DS. It generally works better as a handheld gaming device, possesses a great games library that overshadows the PSP's, and has the characteristics needed for the gamer-on-the-go (long battery life, portable size, weight, etc.). PSP is a good system, but its attempt at making console games "portable" puts me off entirely. If I want to play games that look great and that require save points, I'd rather play on my home console.Tragic_Kingdom7

I agree. PSP is totally redundant.

That line proves you are a DS fanboy. How is it redundant? competition is always good is any market.

Somebody said that the PSP doesn't have unique in its game which I think is absurd. There may be little but games like Katamairi, Locco Rocco, and Patapon are unique titles. I don't think the PSP is redundant it's if there where more titles out for it people will see this.

The DS library is currently a lot better. However, things are definitely looking up for the PSP, for once. Who can say no to the next canon installment of MGS?

I don't own a single handheld system, so no, I'm not a DS fanboy.

Since I think DS is unique as hell, of course I don't find PSP redundant by comparing the PSP to the DS. I find it redundant when I consider the PS2. I see it as a replication of the console experience in miniature.

Nobody said it doesn't have unique titles. That's a strawman.

What I said is that as an overall experience, it doesn't do anything unique. And it doesn't provide a unique handheld experience, but rather just does the console thing in portable form.Of course it has some unique games. All video game systems have unique games.

I guess I worded that poorly. What I meant is that I don't find the PSP redundant by comparing it to the DS, but by comparing it to the PS2, meaning that PSP is too much like PS2.

When you talk about mp3's, you're merely describing a difference in multi-media features, which really doesn't make it fundamentally different. Underneath that, the PSP tries to emulate the gaming experience of the PS2.

I didn't know you wrote that statement I was just reading through the topic and saw that it was mentioned so apologies. I admit the DS is way better than the PSP, but the uniquestatement seemed like it came from someone who doesn't own a PSP and was just typing. Sorry again for the misunderstanding.

You don't really need to apologize for anything. The "strawman" term might have sounded a bit strong and accusatory, but that's just how I debate.

I was the one throwing around word unique, so I assumed that you were replying to my statement, so I wanted to clarify.

The DS is the best handheld EVAR! That said the PSP has a very good library and both are worth owning (origional PSP mondels only, the GO is dumb)

If I wanted a multi-media device I'd get an iPod Touch. Oh wait: I have one, making the PSP only useful for gaming for me. Too bad the majority of the games are bad PS2 ports or games so ambitious that they don't work on the tiny handheld. DS games are simple, short, innovative, and fun. That's why I'd much rather have that over a handheld PS2.

"PSP for me. It has more of the kind of games I like (action games, especially shooters), with better looking graphics and more power. The games are closer to console/PC-quality & experience than games on the DS. And I don't play RPG's

Also the PSP has more functionality

Oh and you can't forget about the h-brew. It's just amazing; in fact right now I play more brew games than official games."

I understand that people have their preferences, so I'm not trying to convince you that DS is better, but I have to ask: Why is it a good thing that handheld games be close to console/PC experiences? I think that consoles are doing just fine providing those experiences, so why be redundant? Unless somebody is so obsessed with games thatthey have to have console experiences everywhere they go (for the record, I'm not accusing you of that), I would think that handhelds would be better served by providing experiences that are unique to handhelds?

I am going with the PSP, on the PSP there is alot mor things that the user is able to do listen to music, watch movies, go on the internet, and of course play games, and the user is able to buy classic games of the PSN just is brilliant. I have played both console and have owned both them but as for handheld PSP all the way there is just more things that you are able to do in the PSP.

I love both for different reasons but if I can only choose 1, as a gamer I choose PSP

Ryusuke_Akihiro

as a gamer, i choose DSi, psp lacks games, and if you think otherwise, you're a fanboy. Psp gets 1 good game every season

that's just my preference. I like having the console/PC experience on the go; immerisive games in your hands. Handhelds started out as black and white; and then they got more immersive and more immersive with the DS and the the PSP coming out. Look at the list of DS games above you. None of those interest me. I'm more into action games and shooters; which are lacking on the DS (GTA Chinatown wars is an exception). I like having the console experience anywhere I am.

PSP for me. Has more of the games I'm interested with.

Rockstar should get a GTA Chinatown Wars to PSP, would most likely get a lot better sales.

This is why the DS is better than the PSP.

DS has all the games You'll need. It excells in all genres and has come up with new branches/genres. The only thing it doesn't have is old PS2 ports.
But since You guys can't handle teh cute You vote PSP.
PSP is too big, uses freaking discs, has loading times, it is too expensive, it isn't new.
This poll is ridiculous.

DS is the best hanheld ever imo.web966

Personally I think that title goes to the GBA. Anyway, I prefer the PSP over the DS simply because I find its library more suited to my taste.

I like the PSP in theory, but there are two things that hold me back from really enjoying it. the first is the layout of the controls. Using the analog nub and the L button for extended periods of time is cramping. The Go may have unintentionally fixed this, but I'd have to hold one to really decide. The other problem, which the PSP can't help with, is that I just don't find myself playing games outside of my house too much. If the PSP Go was a phone, it would've been absolutely killer even at $250. So because I don't play a lot of games on the go and have an iPhone, I just can't justify taking the thing with me to places for the most part. However, this would apply to both the DS and PSP equally. But in terms of games I'm actually interested in, it's the PSP.

The DS is winning, but it appears that there are quite a few diehard PSP fans too... hmmm...

If money wasn't a problem, I'd get a PSP.

I just don't understand all the DS love. Theres hardly any games coming out for the thing. The PSP on the other hand has a killer lineup.

No! you just cannot see all the games that are coming out, or all the games that already came out.

The DS wins in terms of QUANTITY

The psp wins in terms of QUALITY

Its down to your choice, if you want mario kart, nintendogs, professor layton, legend of zelda to..

Crisis core, tekken5 DR, metal gear solid, lumines, burnout, resistance.. etc.

Depends what games you like, and what you do with your handheld.
ie watch movies, play together, go online, listen to music, wifi..

The Nintendo DS has more innovative gameplay due to the ways you can use the two screens. You seem to be ignorent of The DS's true libary because you only mentioned first party DS games.
