The future is here. What future you ask ?? Cell phones have now passed the power of the ps3/360. Who did what you say ??

Nvida tegra k1 and PowerVr GX6650 both with 115.2 GFLOPS of unified shader gpu power. That's right pretty soon there will be ps3/360 emulators and cell phone games using the unreal 4 engine. Well that's great you say but console games are huge. Have no fear SanDisk has started selling a 128GB microsd card for only 200 bucks.

Bbbuutt I hate touch screen controls says the consolites and handheld kids. Have no fear there has been and explosion of controllers for cell phone gaming. You can even use your dualshock 3 or 360 controller if you wish.

The future of gaming is here and it will fit in your pocket. You can bring that cell phone home and hook it up to your hdtv using wifi or hdmi. Bbbuut what about online gaming consolites say ?? My 4g service is almost as fast as my home connection on download and faster on upload. This is before the new 20+20 upgrade comes out later this year.

So you see the vita and 3ds are dead and even consoles are 1 step from the grave. Pretty soon on system wars when people talk about graphic kings cell phone games will be in the mix.

Personally I would like to see Nintendo, Playstation, and Xbox phones/handhelds that can "dock" into a smart TV, or a PC/laptop and be used with a variety of wireless inputs.

That way you could have a phone, handheld, and console in one. Would be even better if they integrated seemlessly with Android/Windows so that you don't even have to switch inputs when you want to use them.

Just plug your Xbox/Playstation/Nintendo handheld into the back of your PC or smart TV, boot to the OS, and on the desktop an Xbox/Playstation/Nintendo icon appears that you can click to go play all your Xbox/Playstation/Nintendo games, earn achievements, and chat with friends.

If anybody is going to do this Sony would be the one. They have made gaming phones in the past but the hardware was not up to the task. The xperia play was a good concept. Nintendo has also talked about mobile gaming but they are really slow. Here is a demo video of the k1 below.

D'aweeee, another phonie who actually thinks that mobile is taking everything and controllers with phones isn't incredibly stupid. These guys are adorable.

You joking right. Use wifi or if you have a old tv use hdmi then you hold the controller in your hand like normal. You can also buy a MOGA controller that has a stand. I am shocked at the level of ignorance here.

I am not going to post links but there are already being done on pc. It's only a mater of time before it happens on cell phones. As it is the the new chips have the power to play current gen console games better than the consoles. Even so called next gen consoles with their long lives will get caught by cell phones. This is the future of gaming and a major step forward in portable gaming. Pretty sure the vita and 2ds platforms will also be emulated.

You would think on a gaming site people would be happy not to be slaves to Nintendo and Sony anymore. You can play what you want when you want and how you want. Pretty soon I will be walking around with a ps3 in my pocket. My cell phone also is basically a mini pc that takes good pictures. Face it the 2ds and vita are dead and the ps3/360 have one foot in the grave.

Won't be long before I have a wii u in my pocket then a ps4. I for one think mobile gaming gets over looked in system wars.

i got a powerful tablet but where are the games? Most of them do not push hardware and have simple controls. As for you comment on people emulating ps3 on phones in the future you better have a phone from the year 2035 because you would need a extremely powerful machine to emulate ps3. Its hard for people to emulate wii games on pcs let alone phones.

nah,

ps360 emulation wont be done for another 5 years,

and even then it would be trash,

even check out xbox 1 emulation,

it still hasn't been done accurately,

Obviously making phone calls and text msgs. However cell phones do so much more now. It has gotten to the point of what can't you do with your cell phone. People would always say gaming and now that is no longer a issue. The only part that is lagging is online gaming. My 4g connection is plenty fast I just need games.

You watched the unreal 4 demo the 360 and ps3 can't do graphics like that.

While I do agree that mobile hardware has evolved at quite an impressive pace, the problem here is that mobile games have not. Yes you do get the rare exceptions like Infinity Blade but that's pretty much it. So far handheld games on 3DS and VITA seem deeper and more advanced than anything I've seen on iOS/Android despite not having on par hardware with the newest phones and tablets.

To put things into perspective the wii u gpu can do 352 gflops and the K1 does 365. I think that is more than enough power to make a ps3 level game like TLOU for example.

You're right that phones today are very powerful but I feel that even with the power that they have I still feel that they are more suited for basic games such as Angry Birds, Infinity Blade or Candy Crush. Playing a actual full console like game on them is not fun at all. Yeah there are controllers where you can use to play better on the phones but I don't feel right about using them which is why I prefer the 3DS instead.

I play console games on my cell phone along with many others. Ps2 games work fine on my note 3 and xperia z1s. N64 games work fine. I added this and this and I have all the games I want. If all you want is angry birds then more power to you but that is your choice. This is all emulation mind you. Right now I am playing asphalt 8 airborne and it even has multiplayer.

It's like a low end PC gpu. 192 CUDA cores aint a whole lot to be compared to a Titan, but the architecture is the same and they both support the latest API's.

Mobile market is expanding, especially with add-ons with console-like controller becoming more common to give you a console experience. The problem is, as of now, developers supporting dedicated home consoles and handhelds a lot more in terms of quality.

Well with mobile gaming getting dx 11 features it should make porting games much easier. The unreal 4 engine works and I would imagine the unreal 3 engine. Many console games are based on these engines so ports should be painless. It's just a matter of numbers. As soon as the hardware reaches the millions games will come. This is a new market and I for one think the future looks great.

Mobile has the power, but not the market. The mobile market is utter shit right now. It's race to the bottom. 94% of all revenue is generated by free-2-play games, the remaining is mostly taken by 0,99 titles. Those can't support handheld devs. There are very few mobile companies that can make decent money selling 5-10 dollars games and even they are small and try to make games extremely cheaply.

Handhelds will loose casuals completely. But there's a big grup of gamers who go where games are. And as long as 3DS and it's successors deliver high quality long and complex games there will always be a market for handhelds. It will just contract, but not dissapear.

Emulation has advanced as power has advanced the only platform that moves faster is the pc. It's only a matter of time before the ps3 and or 360 becomes viable. As for the unreal 4 engine nvidia already has it up and running on the k1. This is the next gen console and pc engine and it works right. That is pretty impressive IMO. Cell phones are mini pc's with a open source platform. Devs don't have to deal with the restrictions and fees of handhelds and consoles.

Pretty sure if you look you will find emulation works on cell phones right now. My phones have 1080p displays games look good on them. Best of all games are free. So if all you want to do is play candy crush more power to you. In two years graphic kings will be on cell phones.

Sorry my comment was more towards the emulation not about unreal engine 4, obviously emulation works on cellphones right now.. for things like snes, gameboy and some ps1 games but anything further and its trash... i tried to emulate a psp game and it was complete crap, so if current gen phones are struggling to emulate a psp game then i don't see how "pretty soon" we can emulate ps3 / 360 on a mobile phone, Also you can't even emulate PS3/360 on PC yet which i'm assuming means its either very difficult or not really viable with current hardware that basically tells me that we wont be seeing ps3/360 emulators for mobiles anytime soon.

In regards to cellphone games being gfx kings in 2 years, i will assume this is a joke.

I don't like handheld gaming. It will be a very long time before anyone releases a mobile game that can truly compare with a console game in terms of depth and production values, if EVER.

I play Canabalt and PvZ on my Note 3. Rarely. I don't see me ever ditching my consoles for mobile gaming. It's only good for time killers.

I was talking about gfx kings being ported. For example Sony ports a ND game or a past gfx king. Also the quality of the display on cell phones is of a much higher quality. Most high end phones have a plus 400 ppi. So even at the same gfx settings a game would look better on a cell phone.

@no-scope-AK47: Tell me how many games are full fledged experiences like Link Between Worlds, Fire Emblem, Persona 4 Golden, etc? None of them.

Some people like to play games on a big screen, and not on a tiny portable screen. For that reason and that reason alone there will ALWAYS be a market for some for of home console in one format or another. Japan is renowned for mobile gaming yet the console market still exists. Saying that consoles have "one foot in he grave" is just foolishness.

Yeah it seems ridiculous to me that televisions are getting bigger and bigger, clarity and resolution is improving constantly, devs are always pushing for better looking games. Yet people think the future is playing on a monitor a few inches in size. I dont doubt mobile gaming has its niche but I dont get excited about playing beautiful looking games on the same phone I use to book a dentist appointment. I do get excited about playing the next big game on a 48" with surround sound!!

Phone are only good for simple basic games.

I know that phone games can play console games with emulators but I really don't like using the touch screen for them and I don't want to use a controller on a phone ether. I rather stick to the 3DS instead for major portable gaming. The only games that I play on my phone are the basic time wasters.

New smartphones are only 600-900 dollars on avg, but hey, if you want dat gaming experience. I'll keep playing on dedicated handhelds with no pay-to-win games.

What about XCOM? That full game is available on iOS.

Things are much closer than many people understand. Do you know how many Final Fantasy games are available on iOS?...
